Yes, Penelope was a goldfish Zach used to have. The lyrics provide all the details to what was wrong with her (dropsy, etc). Alas, she passed away sometime in late 2002 :(

granted pinback puts out amazing albums... blue screen life has been a favorite of mine for years. but i dont care how difficult it is for them to play live, i just think they just don't do most of their songs justice

@crimson empire - i wish i had seen your comment before i posted mine. i agree. a lot of bands i like do this, though. . . it completely ruins the feel, especially on a song like penelope. i have no idea why people are giving you negative feedback on this. . . do they honestly think it sounds good played this fast? stupid.

ya i know, somebody said it's "better for jamming" but theyre not jamming sooo..... I'm a musician and I can kinda understand how playing slower could get boring but with an introspective band like pinback they shouldnt change the feel and heart of the music. just my opinion. Sounds rushed

ya but think about it, it wood sound dumb normal tempo live, they cant replicate the same feel as on the record no matter what, so they thought, hey might as well speed it up and make it fun, they cant recreate sttudio so they want live to be different i think

Haha, I can tell no one below has ever been in a band or else they would know how ridiculously hard it would be to replicate studio sound live. That is not the point of seeing a band live. If you think it is, then stay home and watch the music video.

these guys make, quite possibly the best records of any band, simply amazing from the first song to the last. but they are probably the worst live band I have ever seen. lol. it's comical how horrid they are.

pnback, yo la tengo, and crooked fingers are the best bands ive seen live. you cuaght them on off night i guess. this performance was fast and rusty i agree. but the many times ive seen them they did nothing but awe the crowd into silence. there is some sort of magic that emits from them when they are playing
