I don't get all those comments just because a guy pays $40 for a haircut and leave the barber shop the same way you looked when you went in. Women pay $200 for a hairstyle and leave the saloon way worst then when they went in.
There are people who set the style for his charisma to be public figure, then that particular style as it becomes fashionable.
but if you have a unique style and not as able to become a public figure then you are a lunatic stranger, somewhat deranged by the standards of society
It kind of annoys men that that girl at 2:37 is all bitchy towards him but then when he's like, It's for the Sartorialist , she's fine with it. I mean I guess it would be weird being asked if you can be photographed, but people know his site his about how you look so it's really about vanity.
@ Giderduikkelige -any 40-something, well dressed middle eastern man can take photos of strangers if he has a fashion blog you irregular moron.. people who are fashionable and actually make an effort every morning to look good shouldn't be labeled as celeb wannabes, I for one LOVE looking good, well dressed, polished and that should only scare someone who lives in a cave. I can't believe that he is being judged for taking beautiful pictures of ppl who look so different and amazing everyday.
strangely i cant relate to any of the things he is saying.. i find it puzzling as to why people even buy the magazines he mentioned he liked when he was growing up..like vogue..
why would people be interested be looking at photos of other people walking around in the cities...i cant learn anything from such photos !
@gomerghast no need to be sorry..u can have ur own opinion..but i would appreciate it if u can tell me the reason for saying so ..if u know, then please tell me what good will checking out vogue magazine do me...i ve seen the pics shown here..and his site..just seems like pictures which are supposed to artistic and fancy...they dont tell a story or lead to anything novel or innovative !
@soumyaaymous If the world is not busy whining about thin models and fashion that will end up in museums then they'll complain that Scott Schumann, who actually captures true beauty and style in his photos, is boring. What you'll learn from his photos is that style and fashion are two seperate things, and that style, in contrary to fashion, can't be bought.
@soumyaaymous Just want to say I feel exactly as you do, man. This kind of stuff--and the whole idea of "people watching" being some kind of pleasure--have always been alien to me.
Hysterical - I keep getting notified by YouTube that people have replied to a comment I made 3 months ago, LOL!
'Applebaum' completely misunderstood my comment. He/she thinks I'm a white supremist male. Huh?! @ A: If you read my comment AND had a brain, it would be obvious that I was merely making an observation, namely that a white man can walk around NYC and take photos and rarely have anyone question whether he's up to no good. Clearly, you need to look for a brain donor ASAP! LMAO
I would like to have my camera like this guy on the streets without getting robbed, when i do street photography i take the picture and run, and make sure that nobody it's following me, yeah, i live in Venezuela. :(
@Giderduikkelige GTFO. Jamel Shabazz,The Arab Parrot and Bill Cunningham are three that I can think of... off the top of my head. Minorities and old farts are out there taking tons of street photos, all while you're dressed poorly and complaining on the internet.
@MrNlampert I forgot about Jamel Shabazz. Yup so that proves that if a person of Middle Eastern ethnicity asked for a photo people would say "yes". Jamal is very talented.
He is cool...I love his work, just like Bill Cunningham's page in the NY Times. And he looks good too for a 80 year old man (according to the very reliable Wikipedia...)
@yfwphoto I currently use the same system and can recognize that lens any time. It is the f/1.2 50mm Lens produced in the Canon L line. However, Scott Schumann seems to be using a Canon EOS 7D with a Cropped 1.6 APX sensor so with the crop factor of the particular camera, the lens and what is captured is of a ~75mm focal length.
@ChubbeeChao you know i was wondering about that because I was saying to myself that it looks like the 85 1.2 and its obviously an L so i just assumed he was using the 5D. Good observations guys.
@yfwphoto Actually, after reading your reply, I watched the video again and compared the distance by which he shot from the frame of his pictures. You are correct, and it is a 5D. But I'm almost positive that the lens he's utilizing is the 50MM L f/1.2 I could recognize that in my sleep. That particular lens has become a part of me and I treasure it more highly than my 7D. It's weird.
"capture something that we've really not been able to capture before" !! Really. Bill Cunningham!! Everyone go to see Bill Cunningham New York movie - its the real deal
