  • that's so gay

  • He's a genius! I can't believe that his site have the trafic per day that I had in more than a year!

    :D

  • I love that Barbershop

  • Scott is gorgeous

  • Proud to be a canon user :D

  • I was always curious about that blog. Thanks for the video. :)

  • i need this song,can someone answer?

  • Blue collar ethics all day

  • I don't get all those comments just because a guy pays $40 for a haircut and leave the barber shop the same way you looked when you went in. Women pay $200 for a hairstyle and leave the saloon way worst then when they went in.

  • There are people who set the style for his charisma to be public figure, then that particular style as it becomes fashionable.

but if you have a unique style and not as able to become a public figure then you are a lunatic stranger, somewhat deranged by the standards of society

  • This is now my favorite video to watch!

  • Always so super serious.

  • I would marry you.

  • that barbour tokito jacket is amazing!

  • @yamyam8 millitary one right ?

  • That girl's tone of voice was horrible.

  • God, I love America and western culture.

  • This would not be possible in my neighborhood. At least not in the way this guy does it.

  • What are the musics that are used in the video? Anyone?

  • world

    world

    world

    life life life

hey guys there is a life beyond this material world too

    wakeup

  • It kind of annoys men that that girl at 2:37 is all bitchy towards him but then when he's like, It's for the Sartorialist , she's fine with it. I mean I guess it would be weird being asked if you can be photographed, but people know his site his about how you look so it's really about vanity.

  • @pemchem What's amusing is that she still has no proof of who he is. "Oh, you're with The Sartorialist? Sure! Yeah! Cool!"

  • @pemchem it's set up. she was most likely asked to pretend to not know him for the video

  • @johthon1 "It's a set up." You sound like you know that for sure. I highly doubt that was the case.

  • Now this is how you market your brand

  • Hi, anyone knows whats the name of the photographer he names at min. 4.29???Lartee or somenthign like that i think...!

  • @videomatoradio It's Lartigue, Jacques Henri Lartigue.

  • music name?

  • He looks like the love child of Lance Armstrong and Daniel Craig

  • This guy is the meaning of inspiration, first thing tomorrow I'm going out and having a crack at this, for sure. :)

  • 2:41 standoffish bitch - 3:04 trying to make up for her unfriendly disposition by being pretentious.

  • Beautiful video!

  • $40 for a shave hahahahahahahah

  • @AlainWinthrope Yes? The cleanest and closest shave you can get, what's funny about that?

  • That barber looks like a hipster!

  • @themanitasdeplomo Maybe you should Google what a hipster looks like.

  • @SilentEcho8 The ridiculously retro moustache and generic pin-up tattoo tell me enough.

  • @frenchbunny 5D mark 2 *

  • Just recognize the beauty in every day life, in things we take for granted!

  • Does anyone know what camera was used to film this documentary?

  • @frenchbunny its canon..but i dont really know whats hte model name..but im sure its canon..=)

  • @frenchbunny Its the Canon 1d mk iv.

  • What's the music???

  • @gregper The composer is named Amir Yaghmai, a friend of our director Tyler Manson.

    Terrific music indeed.

Brian & team @ Amsterdam Worldwide.

  • @MrBrianelliott Hello, would you please tell us the name of the babershop? Thanks!

  • @MrBrianelliott can you tell us more about Amir Yaghmai? I cannot find any of his music online, where can we purchase?

  • not as much a fan of the video as I am of his eyeglasses

  • This video is so inspirational, it makes me want to live a life with a camera in hand and just make extraordinary pictures of random people!

  • It's really nice to see the amount of effort and dedication to his craft. He's so passionate about it. Great video!

  • I love this video!

  • @ Giderduikkelige -any 40-something, well dressed middle eastern man can take photos of strangers if he has a fashion blog you irregular moron.. people who are fashionable and actually make an effort every morning to look good shouldn't be labeled as celeb wannabes, I for one LOVE looking good, well dressed, polished and that should only scare someone who lives in a cave. I can't believe that he is being judged for taking beautiful pictures of ppl who look so different and amazing everyday.

  • GO back to the mid-west!

  • boring -__-

  • strangely i cant relate to any of the things he is saying.. i find it puzzling as to why people even buy the magazines he mentioned he liked when he was growing up..like vogue..

why would people be interested be looking at photos of other people walking around in the cities...i cant learn anything from such photos !

  • @soumyaaymous You're an idiot. Sorry.

  • @gomerghast no need to be sorry..u can have ur own opinion..but i would appreciate it if u can tell me the reason for saying so ..if u know, then please tell me what good will checking out vogue magazine do me...i ve seen the pics shown here..and his site..just seems like pictures which are supposed to artistic and fancy...they dont tell a story or lead to anything novel or innovative !

  • @soumyaaymous different eyes, different perspective :D

  • @akulapardahaga yes and that is exactly what i wanted to understand..the perspective of the people who appreciate these pictures

  • @soumyaaymous If the world is not busy whining about thin models and fashion that will end up in museums then they'll complain that Scott Schumann, who actually captures true beauty and style in his photos, is boring. What you'll learn from his photos is that style and fashion are two seperate things, and that style, in contrary to fashion, can't be bought.

  • @RestlessYooth all i see is vanity !

  • @soumyaaymous Just want to say I feel exactly as you do, man. This kind of stuff--and the whole idea of "people watching" being some kind of pleasure--have always been alien to me.

  • he looks like Tucker Max

  • Why does he not visit London, were definatley up there with the best dressed in the world???

  • Hysterical - I keep getting notified by YouTube that people have replied to a comment I made 3 months ago, LOL!

'Applebaum' completely misunderstood my comment. He/she thinks I'm a white supremist male. Huh?! @ A: If you read my comment AND had a brain, it would be obvious that I was merely making an observation, namely that a white man can walk around NYC and take photos and rarely have anyone question whether he's up to no good. Clearly, you need to look for a brain donor ASAP! LMAO

  • I would like to have my camera like this guy on the streets without getting robbed, when i do street photography i take the picture and run, and make sure that nobody it's following me, yeah, i live in Venezuela. :(

  • HE PAID A LOT FOR THAT HAIRCUT!

  • Nice to hear his view and explanation throughout the video.

  • I'd like to see a 'making of' behind the scenes video of this.

  • @kolorizer65 Learn to spell, idiot. Its "Cocaine".

  • @kolorizer65 HAHAHAHAHA He does! XD

  • Quite disturbed by the stuffed polar bear in the window at 2:13.

  • OK, here we are.. the cleverest question of this decade! Why canon ;)

  • @Giderduikkelige GTFO. Jamel Shabazz,The Arab Parrot and Bill Cunningham are three that I can think of... off the top of my head. Minorities and old farts are out there taking tons of street photos, all while you're dressed poorly and complaining on the internet.

  • @MrNlampert I forgot about Jamel Shabazz. Yup so that proves that if a person of Middle Eastern ethnicity asked for a photo people would say "yes". Jamal is very talented.

  • @kolorizer65 lol where ever since i read your comment i been trying to spot it but cant

  • I like looking at his blog.

  • one of the most inspiring videos i have seen afar from Randy Pausech

(sorry if i misspelled the name) " The Last Speech"

beautiful absolutely amazing, this has most definitely made me want to become a photographer!

  • if you look at the prices closely, a trim is only 25, and a buzz is 20. i'm sure he didn't pay for a full haircut.

  • hard for me to concentrate on what he is saying with all that stuff in his nose lol

  • He is amazing...I love his work and this was a nice piece on him...real...and nice to put a face to the incredible eye he has!

  • Boy, he cute!

  • This was done beautifully. His work is so respectable, love this short film!

  • i LOVE this video AND his site :o) ....waited a bit to actually watch this.... mad that i waited!

    xo.

    -dropsofjupiterBLOG

  • 0:10 I know what that thing is. Sex.

  • It's Lance Armstrong!

  • @Jiyangc yeah, but sexier.

  • Comment removed

  • He is cool...I love his work, just like Bill Cunningham's page in the NY Times. And he looks good too for a 80 year old man (according to the very reliable Wikipedia...)

  • All of the music in this is great. This is what I aim to do if / when I make a documentary.

  • what camera?

  • @expressmusic Canon 5d MkII

  • is it me or is he REALLY small?

  • Anyone know what this music is?

  • that trench he's wearing is siccccccccck!

  • what lens you think that is?

  • @yfwphoto according to EXIF data on most of his shots: EF50mm f/1.2L USM

  • @justinveiga awesome thanks much

  • @yfwphoto I currently use the same system and can recognize that lens any time. It is the f/1.2 50mm Lens produced in the Canon L line. However, Scott Schumann seems to be using a Canon EOS 7D with a Cropped 1.6 APX sensor so with the crop factor of the particular camera, the lens and what is captured is of a ~75mm focal length.

  • @ChubbeeChao you know i was wondering about that because I was saying to myself that it looks like the 85 1.2 and its obviously an L so i just assumed he was using the 5D. Good observations guys.

  • @yfwphoto Actually, after reading your reply, I watched the video again and compared the distance by which he shot from the frame of his pictures. You are correct, and it is a 5D. But I'm almost positive that the lens he's utilizing is the 50MM L f/1.2 I could recognize that in my sleep. That particular lens has become a part of me and I treasure it more highly than my 7D. It's weird.

  • @ChubbeeChao it's actually the 85mm f/1.2 i checked the metadata. He does use the 50mm 1.2 a lot though.

  • @ChubbeeChao 50 * 1.6 = 80mm

  • "capture something that we've really not been able to capture before" !! Really. Bill Cunningham!! Everyone go to see Bill Cunningham New York movie - its the real deal

  • It's not enough just to buy a camera, go out and shoot. You have to find your own vision. And idea.

I like his way of communicate - he just says hallo, excuse me... But what if I'm not so famous and/or brave ;)

  • anyone know the brand of glasses he is wearing?

  • @vistiena1 'Oliver Peoples' comes to mind. *scans site* Yeah, could be a Riley 48. Dunno.

  • @vistiena1 They are by Oliver People / Garrett Leight and called Hamptons

  • @theereckoning its a classy barber's place;p its for those alcapone types of gents who live by the old book

  • This is a great film. Well done! Please check out the trailer for recently premiered documentary PressPausePlay - a film about hope, fear, and digital culture.

  • @telemundo I might not be the biggest fan of Scott Schuman, but bloggers can me photographers, may pro-photogs blog as well. I take street style photography as well and I can tell you that his work is far from staged, you even saying that just shows your ignorance on the subject. If he wanted to become the male version of Anna Wintour, he'd hire a big staff and stop doing his own work. Scott is just the internet adaptation of Bill Cunningham. No reason to hate.

  • @telemundo Everyone has their own opinion, in the meantime he gets to do what he wants and probably gets a hell lot of cash

  • I am a fan of Scott and his blog The Sartorialist. As real as art and fashion photography can get

  • was this recorded with a 5dmk2?

  • @2:43 her friend is like "YOU IGNORANT SLUT ITS THE SARTORIALIST!!!!!!!!!!"

  • @theereckoning you've probably been getting the same haircut for years havent you?

  • 3:13 holy crap a VW Golf 4 in the US!? i thought those tiny cars were banned there :P

  • Lovely

  • i could watch this all night in cinema... this is amazing

  • It's all about the money.

  • I'd know the songs titles. Can anyone tell me the titles? Thanks!

  • @TheKimiopera id love to know what the song is called too.

  • Funny - if he looked Middle Eastern, people would think he was taking photos because he was planning a terror attack. If he were an older man, they would suspect him of being a pervert. But because he's a 40-something, white well-dressed man he can walk around and take pix of strangers because he understands about vanity and how much regular folks (non-celebs) love to have their pic taken.

  • @Giderduikkelige What? Did you not see the video? He asked them for a photograph, like most photographers do. I've never heard of a real photographer, regardless of race or dress, that does not ask a person if they'd mind having their picture taken.

  • @Giderduikkelige Thats Bullshit. Plenty of street style blogs are photographed not middle aged, not men, and not white. They get just as many pictures as he does. Jak and Jil is run by a young Asian male. Manrpeller is run by a young woman. You are just on your own soap box. The reason they agree is that his blog is well known because he is a very talented photographer.

  • I'm 39, african hispanic, based in Amsterdam, I travel the world and make pics of people just like Scott does, and nothing ever happends or stop me from doing so , Scoot is an inspiration.

  • @Giderduikkelige white supremacy must feel like the comfiest sweaters ...(you know the kind of sweater that you can barely even feel) to a 40 something well turned out white man....

They have the freedom to be and to blissfully do exactly as they wish. sadly for over 85% of the globes population whiteness = presumed innocence

  • @Giderduikkelige very accurate .. esp the part about peoples' vanity.

  • @Giderduikkelige It is really funny. It's all about how a person looks! So true!

  • @Giderduikkelige Don't close your opinion to prejudgement. The passion and dedication it takes, not only to practice your technique, dedicate your time, and LEARN HOW TO APPROACH a person to produce a project or an idea. That is what the Sartorialist does, he is an excellent professional.

  • I love how he has his intense face on when he's out scouting LOL

  • Comment removed

  • @terumichi94 "The fact of the matter is, y'know, I didn't grow up dreaming to be a photographer." :)

  • @thewham34 Thank you so much!! I appreciate your kindness!

  • @theereckoning How else do you think a barber would survive in a city like that?

  • @theereckoning

    This video is about hipsters...

  • the videographer seems like the truly skilled of the two.

  • Does anyone know what kinda jacket he's got on? The black one that goes to his knees. I can't tell if its some kind of wool sport coat or what. Or is he just owning that suit jacket like crazy?

  • he looks like an assassin. and the camera is his weapon lol

  • he paid 40 bucks for a person to do nothing to his hair

  • @EltonHamilton it's more like just trimming .. so just $25 :)

  • Comment removed

  • @EltonHamilton + tip :)

  • @EltonHamilton

It's all about the experience of "the barbershop," a man's escape.

  • @EltonHamilton No! - he also paid for a hot towel on his face!

  • @EltonHamilton Included shaving and face massage.

  • @EltonHamilton that's freeman's sporting club in nyc. that barber is rock solid, for what it's worth

  • what is the name at the start of the video through 2 mins?

  • you should watch out for bikes dude

  • hat the hell does this have to do with microprocessors?
