  • What a powerful song!

  • Indeed, we all need some mercy. I know, I do. Thank you, Father, for your mercy & grace. "My father could use a little mercy now... My brother could use a little mercy now... My church and my country could use a little mercy now... Every living thing could use a little mercy now... Yeah, we all could use a little mercy now I know we don't deserve it But we need it anyhow We hang in the balance Dangle 'tween hell and hallowed ground Every single one of us could use some mercy now"
  • A friend told me about this after my father's death. Very moving and very touching.

  • Ferron and her have a battle for AWESOME!

  • 52 years old & just now finding Mary thanx to an old friend. Mary: you sing my heart, Sister. Thanx for being so brilliantly insightful.

  • Was reminded of this song on the BBC prog 'Case Histories' and have just downloaded it from Amazon - love the song and love her voice - thanks Beeb.

  • Went to Amazon and heard the beginnings of Mercy Now songs (inspirational) and then bought the album for just over £4 . . . the price of a pint of Guinness. She'll live on while the pint will disappear in a trice.

  • Lovely sound, as though the voice is from the sound box of the acoustic guitar ..... excellent First heARD on the BBC "Case Histories" ... very fitting

  • @RDescartes101 Is that R Rene?

  • @bloosville Yeah The R does stand for Rene

  • @RDescartes101 So is that R Rene?

  • I heard this song as it was on the soundtrack of 'Case Histories', a BBC show. Major props to whomever suggested it, it's fantastic.

  • I love this song and Mary's rendition of it. She puts so much feeling into it; you can hear the world weariness in her voice

  • Great song!

  • Some songs have a brevity and poignancy able to trancend the words.

  • Wow this is powerful and beautiful.

  • Grace: Getting what you don't deserve

Mercy: Not getting what you DO deserve

    Christians get that.

  • Mary, I love you. You are truly a gift from God! I thank him for you!

  • We like songs like this because we feel them, and they make us feel. If a song can make you feel, what higher thing can it accomplish? Make you whistle, too?

  • I am a big supporter of the wars but thats nice .. they carry the weight of the faithfull etc. nice poetism

  • Why people sing these type of songs which create more pain than healing to this already wounded and bleeding society is beyond me,and sadly as the song itself is that people enjoy the pain that goes with it,and too bad that I am also a party to it!!

  • @ongaciti

I know. We humans are strange creatures. I guess that's why they call it the BLUES, and it's very popular. Go figure. I love this song. . Everyone has their demons and these songs seem to helps ease the pain somehow

  • @ongaciti In pain there can be healing. This song isn't so much about being brought down by what's going wrong, but recognising that there can be deliverence from what's going on now. It's the difference between giving up, and holding out for hope.

  • Gets right into your bones, this song.

  • This makes me want to dieeeeeeeeee

  • @heyitsrainingblood good way or bad way ?

  • Mary and John prine...all I need.

  • This Song always reminds me of Derek Nally who introduced me to your Music. He was a sweet man. Martin A. Egan

  • This Song always reminds me of Derek Nally. He introduced me to your Music. He was a sweet man.

  • Awesome song...awesome singer....amazing story behind this singer's music

  • Just discovered her today...this song absolutely made me cry like a baby at work...I listed to a lot of her songs today...such a sad story that she triumphed over...it really touched my very soul

  • great voice..right from your soul into mine...

use your songs for my art...

it goes excellent with joan armatrading text...

    thank u mary

  • @tolgreen - love your art tolgreen.

  • @SmileFromBehind -thanks for watching...

  • @tolgreen - ah, but it's easy and very enjoyable to watch and listen to beautiful artworks. Best wishes.

  • Was great, the first half . . . but then, to cast her country as evil . . . unacceptable. Too many seem to feel that they can show their compassion for others only by castigating the very home that provides them the ability to show that compassion. If you find fault here -- I do as well -- then act to change it, don't moan and whimper, and do NOT cast America as evil.

PS: I immigrated to America half a century ago, and have NEVER regretted it Don't know any immigrants that would sing this.

  • @curmudgeonNOT

This is not to cast the US as 'evil", it is a plea to humanity. Maybe listen a little more closely, and take the curmudgeon glasses off eh.

  • @alumnigavinhsakb : I have the album and it's incredible : completely worth the $10. I would suggest her album Between Daylight and the Dark as well. It's a great follow on to this one! Enjoy!

  • How do I find mp3iffy to download this song? I was told to google mp3iffy.

  • @alumnigavinhsakb How about do the right thing and pay for it?

  • @alumnigavinhsakb ditto @piggylou.. support the musicians! instead of looking for the free lunch, buy lunch for the person who inspired you and help create the world you hear Mary singing about...

  • @alumnigavinhsakb

Try buying it, and support a very talented songwriter. Only $1, or are you happy to work for nothing yourself?

  • you are the best ...thank you

  • A beautiful and moving song; I cried.

    xo

  • Beautiful piece from one of the most distinctive and appealing voices out now.

  • Thank you 'Wayne Fontana' for sending me here!

  • It's not my usual cuppa tea, but it is a well written song..not quite Dylan quality, but ok...

  • @TheDeysiRae 'but ok'....really? "only the hand of grace...could end the race...to another mushroom cloud"

Please inform me of a more provocative Dylan verse...

  • love to listen to this when im down

  • Truly GREAT Poetry in musical form. In the Tradition with Bob Dylan, talking turkey to us all in brilliance. Beloved Be.

  • Excellent track...

  • Hope that another one doesn't hit N.O., but it looks like Gustav may increase in intensity

  • an all time favourite -the emotion in her voice is incredible _________

  • Awesome. The power of music.

  • This song is so moving. Thank you George for introducing this to me.

  • Really lovely, both the song itself and the sentiment it conveys so well.

  • Just great ,Mary and the musicians.they are promoting and playing it in Ireland,

  • Part 3

have an Arabic version of Mercy Now in addition to the Hebrew version up on my jukebox. Then it hit me that I'd love to hear a version of Mercy Now translated into in as many languages as possible, especially the languages of places where war and political upheaval cause great pain and suffering. I am inviting musicians from everywhere to send in a version of Mercy Now in their musical own musical style and in their native language,

  • thats awesome skumm60, the power of music. and communication.

  • Look for Mary's blog at another "space" to get the end or part 4.

  • @skumm60 How can I find the Arabic and Hebrew versions?

  • Part 2

A few weeks later, I played a private party in Manhattan, and I told the story about the wonderful cover of Mercy Now in Hebrew. Well, I had no idea that the Palestinian Ambassador to the US was in the audience. He came up to me after the show, and encouraged me to come to Palestine. He seem a little put off by my glowing endorsement of the Hebrew version of my song. It dawned on me that night that I'd love to have an Arabic version of Mercy Now

  • Part 1

One day not too long ago I received an e-mail from a wonderful young man named Shay Guwetta in Israel, telling me that he'd recorded my song Mercy Now in Hebrew. When he sent me the MP3, I loved it. I put it up on my web site for everyone to hear, and told people about it at shows.

  • why do u cal it your song ??

Quoting u: "my song Mercy Now" ????

is it not mary's song ??

  • It is all Mary Gauthier... I tried but could not post the 4th part of this myspace blog from Mary. Sorry for any misunderstanding. I'll try to get the 4th part on now.

  • Why are you speaking in the first person?? Didn't you lurn no gud inglish??

  • beautiful..........

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. (and I've heard alot of beautiful songs) Thank you Mary Gauthier.

  • Oh...this song is so truthful!

  • God is stongest crutch! And we need one. Beautiful Song....Thanks Mary

  • God is abundant in Mercy to all who will turn toward him by faith though Christ . Mercy, here and now and for all eternity.

  • PULLLLLEEEEZE !!!

  • I dont mind folks believing in a god genrally, but people like this who need you to "turn" to their god for mercy break my heart

  • I think I agree with you, Cal. IMHO, the 'mercy' of which Mary sings is HER mercy...HER forgiveness of HER father, HER brother, HER church and HER country. Part of her says that she SHOULD forgive, but another part of her says "I can't, I can't....I've been hurt so badly." And there-in lay the mystical-angstful beauty of the song. The song has absolutely NOTHING to do with 'god'.

  • right on

  • Thank you...Now I understand...I still can't listen to this song w/o crying...but I listen anyway...Peace to all

  • I couldn't figure out why I couldn't post the end of the blog but I think it's because it contained urls that rhyme with byface.

  • I need a shower.

  • I caught Mary at Falcon Ridge two weeks ago. For me, the opportunity to hear her and to re-think her music WAS Falcon Ridge. I hope I see MUCH more of her.

  • This is the first I've heard of Mary- WOW. I keep listening to this over and over- Deeply touching . YEAH- God is MERCIFUL to those who turn to Him.

    i love this song.Thanks

  • god is a crutch.

  • Hi Mary, I met you on the train trip from Toronto to Van Couver a couple of years ago. It was one of the best times of my life... mainly due to you and your superb songwriting and delivery. I still listen to my favorite, "Fallin' Out Of Love" constantly. So good to see you on here. Check out my channel. I am a singer/songwriter too. Warmest Regards, Pattipi aka pi341too

  • Oops, I meant Vancouver. Van Couver was some guy I had a one night stand with back in the 90's hehe :P

  • Wow, Very few singers can hit me like that. Mary is an angel.

  • Powerful song, well sung.

  • That's all the church we need. What an amazing song.

  • I love this song. Is there a video of her song, "I Drink"?
