Indeed, we all need some mercy. I know, I do. Thank you, Father, for your mercy & grace. "My father could use a little mercy now... My brother could use a little mercy now... My church and my country could use a little mercy now... Every living thing could use a little mercy now... Yeah, we all could use a little mercy now I know we don't deserve it But we need it anyhow We hang in the balance Dangle 'tween hell and hallowed ground Every single one of us could use some mercy now"
Went to Amazon and heard the beginnings of Mercy Now songs (inspirational) and then bought the album for just over £4 . . . the price of a pint of Guinness. She'll live on while the pint will disappear in a trice.
Lovely sound, as though the voice is from the sound box of the acoustic guitar ..... excellent First heARD on the BBC "Case Histories" ... very fitting
My dad played this for me in the car last night. I don't see him nearly enough. For my whole life I've been torn between my two parents, and I spent my whole life blaming them. it's petty and disgusting. he played this, and I jsut started crying. So powerful, but so impossible. That's why it's so sad
We like songs like this because we feel them, and they make us feel. If a song can make you feel, what higher thing can it accomplish? Make you whistle, too?
Why people sing these type of songs which create more pain than healing to this already wounded and bleeding society is beyond me,and sadly as the song itself is that people enjoy the pain that goes with it,and too bad that I am also a party to it!!
I know. We humans are strange creatures. I guess that's why they call it the BLUES, and it's very popular. Go figure. I love this song. . Everyone has their demons and these songs seem to helps ease the pain somehow
@ongaciti In pain there can be healing. This song isn't so much about being brought down by what's going wrong, but recognising that there can be deliverence from what's going on now. It's the difference between giving up, and holding out for hope.
Just discovered her today...this song absolutely made me cry like a baby at work...I listed to a lot of her songs today...such a sad story that she triumphed over...it really touched my very soul
Was great, the first half . . . but then, to cast her country as evil . . . unacceptable. Too many seem to feel that they can show their compassion for others only by castigating the very home that provides them the ability to show that compassion. If you find fault here -- I do as well -- then act to change it, don't moan and whimper, and do NOT cast America as evil.
PS: I immigrated to America half a century ago, and have NEVER regretted it Don't know any immigrants that would sing this.
@alumnigavinhsakb : I have the album and it's incredible : completely worth the $10. I would suggest her album Between Daylight and the Dark as well. It's a great follow on to this one! Enjoy!
@alumnigavinhsakb ditto @piggylou.. support the musicians! instead of looking for the free lunch, buy lunch for the person who inspired you and help create the world you hear Mary singing about...
have an Arabic version of Mercy Now in addition to the Hebrew version up on my jukebox. Then it hit me that I'd love to hear a version of Mercy Now translated into in as many languages as possible, especially the languages of places where war and political upheaval cause great pain and suffering. I am inviting musicians from everywhere to send in a version of Mercy Now in their musical own musical style and in their native language,
A few weeks later, I played a private party in Manhattan, and I told the story about the wonderful cover of Mercy Now in Hebrew. Well, I had no idea that the Palestinian Ambassador to the US was in the audience. He came up to me after the show, and encouraged me to come to Palestine. He seem a little put off by my glowing endorsement of the Hebrew version of my song. It dawned on me that night that I'd love to have an Arabic version of Mercy Now
One day not too long ago I received an e-mail from a wonderful young man named Shay Guwetta in Israel, telling me that he'd recorded my song Mercy Now in Hebrew. When he sent me the MP3, I loved it. I put it up on my web site for everyone to hear, and told people about it at shows.
It is all Mary Gauthier... I tried but could not post the 4th part of this myspace blog from Mary. Sorry for any misunderstanding. I'll try to get the 4th part on now.
I think I agree with you, Cal. IMHO, the 'mercy' of which Mary sings is HER mercy...HER forgiveness of HER father, HER brother, HER church and HER country. Part of her says that she SHOULD forgive, but another part of her says "I can't, I can't....I've been hurt so badly." And there-in lay the mystical-angstful beauty of the song. The song has absolutely NOTHING to do with 'god'.
I caught Mary at Falcon Ridge two weeks ago. For me, the opportunity to hear her and to re-think her music WAS Falcon Ridge. I hope I see MUCH more of her.
Hi Mary, I met you on the train trip from Toronto to Van Couver a couple of years ago. It was one of the best times of my life... mainly due to you and your superb songwriting and delivery. I still listen to my favorite, "Fallin' Out Of Love" constantly. So good to see you on here. Check out my channel. I am a singer/songwriter too. Warmest Regards, Pattipi aka pi341too
