So the way I see it, Luka and Rin had a relationship, but Rin was a little out of whack and tried to choke Luka to death. This drove Rin over the edge (no pun intended) and she jumped into a nuclear reactor which made Luka depressed, but she still moved on...

Okayy, so I think this makes complete sense... Luka's with Rin and Luka wanted them to "Just be friends" so she told Rin she just wants them to be friends quickly...fearing Rin's reaction and a few seconds later while Luka was still telling Rin why they should just be friends Rin's already thinking about suicide...So Luka's trying to convince Rin they can "still be friends" so that she won't kill her self...But Rin ignores Luka and continues her suicidal thoughts.
