Song writing Credits: Bill Wyman talks about at least "SEVERAL SONGS" that Sir Brian Jones should have received credit for...... They haven't come close to the "CLASSICS" that Brian was so much a part of during the 60's period. The "HEART " of the Stones according to Eddie Kramer was Sir Brian Jones
Brian Jones was a multi-talented individual who had a great deal of childhood baggage by his own admission and in many cases over-reacted to the pressures of fame and fortune. Nevertheless it would be remiss to minimize his obvious accomplishments and also not to recognize that he was murdered. The great Roy Buchanan was murdered as well but not given nearly as much attention. One had to be there to truly understand. Such is life and the rest of us are left to struggle .
Brian Jones from 64-67 was without doubt the coolest man in the industry, if not, the world!!! 68-69 sadly shows his decline some of those pictures really are disturbingly sad to look at.. as for his personality.. who knows? by all accounts it sounds like everyone in the 60s like to portray him as one thing now but in the 60s they all worshipped him too... keith learnt everything from Brian and it wasnt untill he died that Keith became a bit more popular..
so sad to see his decline into drugs in photos. the picture at 5:58 really shows how bad he had become. Brian was the Rolling Stones, a genius musician who could play any musical instrument. and the sitar he plays on Paint It Black, will never be bettered.
People who say that this guy has been over idealized need to realize that all rockers of cult figures of any kind are over idealized. I mean how many people do you think diss this guy then go talk about how Roger Waters or Radiohead dude is the new messiah. Nothing against those artists they are great they are just not philosophers or religious figures as they are made out to be.
@TwistedSister09 brian jones was a key part of the stones but he used to beat anita pallenberg, bail on gigs and became impossible to work with. keith and mick kept the band going and are rock and roll legends. end of. point proven.
@mintyvision Anita was hoe-ish. She wasn't exactly innocent either. Just like the Chris Brown case..They look at rihanna being the victim when she shoved him first and called him names.
@TwistedSister09 so what your saying is its the womans fault when she gets beaten? your an idiot. and what exactly are you basing your "Keith and Mick only cared about themselves" comment on? you met them? do you know them? im sure they care about themselves as much as anyone else does. i based my comments on fact. your just making stuff up.
@mintyvision I didn'tr say it was the woman's fault. I'm a girl and if a girl hits another guy they should be hit back.
Yeah and you don't know Brian either. He was a good guy according to others. And yes there have been people who said Keith and Mick were asses. Just because you like them doesnt make them saints.
I'm not making stuff up. You seem like a kid who believes everything he reads.
@TwistedSister09 you are arguing that the worman is responsible if she gets hit. thats exactly what you said. and your saying i seem like a kid. you clearly too young to grasp the seriousness of domestic abuse. as for everything i read, well i work in the music industry and have been fortunate to work with the stones, so i know a number of the people personally.

Go to `Rolling Stones talk about Brian Jones` on here for starters. Secondly I know 3 people who were involved in the music business at that time and (really did) knew him well. Their words are unprintable. You got to differtiate between starstruck fans who never met the guy and simply worship an icon, and people who actually had (frequently) the misfortune to work/socialise with the guy.
@chanctonbury63 their "misfortune" of knowing him has sure made them a lot of money over the years. Only cowards will talk bad about someone behind their back or speak ill of someone after they have died. Name one thing that they say Brian did that was so awful that they didn't do or do to him.
No i have not been reading Keiths book but i will soon. Btw i was born in 1960 and started my own bands in 1977.
Name some hit songs Brian wrote? They were a blues cover band until Mick and Keith started writing together, I'm just saying i think the guy is overrated respect ok but over rated!!
@tksadler1 no one knows if brain COULD write or not.. the glimmer twins DIDNT give him any chance... ok u ask me HOW MANY BRIAN WROTE? how many did brian make breathtakingly amazing with his multiple instrument playing skills.. jagger/keith wrote them... brian MADE them!!
look, im a HUGE stones fan and love ALL members but i HATE the way people criticize jones.. he was a asshole maybe but so were keith and mick in 60s!! show some more respect to the FOUNDER of stones.. capital letter emphazies
talentless asshole ...... Wow he did some blues covers big deal who wrote the hits ? Honky Tonk Women, Brown Sugar, Satisfaction, Give me Shelter etc etc etc ....... How many did Brian Jones write ?? He did blues covers thats it!!! wanker
@tksadler1 He wrote a soundtrack and is known to have recorded music at home. I doubt that Brian wrote or even wanted to write hit songs. That wasn't his strength. One thing he did though was making the Glimmers songs memorable with his addings. If he hadn't done that he would never have been remembered today.
The Stones have a lot to thank Brian for because he made them stand out soundwise. Saying that he was talentless is plain wrong. Song writing skills and musical skills are different thing
Brian Jones has received plenty of credit, otherwise there wouldn't be so many semi-illiterate people who know what his contribution was. He was a musically gifted person who was also a narcissistic, mean-spirited user, by all accounts. I'm not so sure that there "would be no Rolling Stones" without him. One of the things that make rock and roll fans look like morons is their willingness to place people on pedestals who have no business being up there. Do a little reading.
@drebyrd54 - Been reading Keith's autobiography have you?? thought so.
i do agree with you on some points but what makes rock and roll so amazing are the late great artists that leave legacies and are so iconic that people (whose parents werent even around at the time, let alone them) still listen and admire!!
Brian deserves the tributes he gets because he helped create a whole new generation and his life ended tragically and abruptly, he's dead... have some respect people.
@drebyrd54 you say "by all accounts" that's just not true. There are plenty of us that remember the REAL Brian Jones. You need to do some reading besides Keith Richard and his agenda.
@kittenlyric In addition to Keith Richards, there is A.E. Hotchner's "Blown Away", which is a collection of reminiscenses by Ian Stewart, Marianne Faithful, and many others. Unless you actually knew him personally, I would say that if you think you knew the "real Brian Jones" from the mountain of media bs that surrounded the Stones, you are in Lalaland.
@drebyrd54 you and that other keith richard fan that keeps posting negative things on all Brian's videos need to go to the keith videos and leave those of us that love and respect Brian alone.
@kittenlyric Some rockfans talk about rockstars like american funamentalist vigars in their small wooden churches who talk about God and this Son of him.
rolling stones are my favourite band and im a huge fan of all the members but it's a tribute to Brian to say that the stones never bettered their music from the 60s when Brian was apart of the band!! A legend who's legacy will live amongst us all. The guy could do anything with any instrument pretty much which helped the stones create the best music ever. Since his death the stones have made good, but not excellent music, and credit must go to this legend. RIP Brian and thanks for the memories.x
Very sadly, Brian went from the most important member of the group in late '62 to a hindrance by 1968. His musicianship goes without saying and I still feel Keith does not give him enough credit in terms of their brilliant guitar interplay. However, this leads to Brian's personality ......(the crux, aside from drugs) awkward, selfish, and offensive. Nevertheless, he appears "preyed upon" by vultures sensing his vulnerability during his final months. So he leaves many mixed feelings......
@maxytac666 it is important to note that no one really knew the real Brian! it was said he suffered from clinical depression in those days when more serious disorders such as Bipolar etc weren't really discovered! had he been around today maybe he could have got the professional help people today have!! No one knows how he treated the band, other people say Jagger and Keith purposely pushed Brian away from the band, some say he self destructed.. who knows but the guy is a rock icon!
Brian is reported to have fathered four illegitimate children in about three years' time. Obviously he was a messed-up guy, thoughtless, careless, and apparently rather toxic to his bandmates. He was talented, and the music of the early Stones is the music that made them a force to be reckoned with. He did found the band, he gets serious credit for that, and then he went ballistic. Sad dude.
If only he weren't so narcissistic and schizo (and liked to beat up the ladies) he could have had a nice niche in the Stones into the 70's, or at least formed his own band. Guy just had too many issues.
The Rolling Stones 1964-1968 DVD all with Brian 3 hours .Crystal clear audio and video.Best Tribute to Brian of all time.I still have a couple of original DVD.
After all I'm still waiting for the Degree of Murder-Soundtrack to be released. It's a shame for everybody surrounding the fact that it's not done yet. Brian's Degree of Murder sounds beautifull and wild. Such a shame: 2010 and the only Brian Solo-Album is not available.
No one is questioning Brian Jones' obvious talents as a musician, but today many people remember him with some idealised, fictitious image. By all available accounts, he was very much a Dr.Jeckyll & Mr. Hyde; a man who could behave quite normally(even pleasantly) to some people, while being harsh, callous and cruel to others. Sadly,we'll never know what his solo music would have been like, but if he had lived longer he would have ended up playing blues in small clubs...like Mick Taylor.
We only have Anita's word that Brian beat her - noone else ever saw any evidence of it. And I think she made it up because she wanted Keith, and couldn't have gotten him to betray Brian without feeling like he was on some higher moral ground. (I think Keith put the hit on Brian to protect Anita. Because once the deed was done, he practically BECAME Brian: drugged-out, barely with it - all the things that supposedly made Brian a liability for the Stones.)
@troubadude YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT IT SO YOUR SPECULATIONS ARE ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS, IDIOTIC, AND REVOLTING TO THOSE OF US WHO KNEW AND DEARLY LOVED EVERYONE INVOLVED.
DO NOT BOTHER TO REPLY WAS ONE OF BRIAN'S CLOSEST FRIENDS.
@troubadude That isn't true, Keith had to beg Anita to leave Brian and go away with him. Anita wasn't the only one to claim Brian was abusive either. And Keith put the hit on Brian to protect Anita? You can't be serious. Anita left Brian two years before his death.
@xXPinkGoddessXx Anita left Brian, but she went back to him too. Anita played them both off each other for a while. I am old enough to remember the rumors when Marlon was born so very blonde. Of course you can tell he's Keith's now but back then there was talk cause she went back and forth.
In the beginning, he was a kind of bohemian. Keith and especially Mick were still nice but ambitious boys. Brian set the example, personally and (not to be forgotten) musically. But they outgrew him. And he couldn't handle the showbizz stress. RIP
stones pictures never be the same without brian he was so photogenic more than mick & keith even death he is more interesting than charlie and billie and we never see a old fuzzie brian he always going to be young for us
thanks for you comment is more easy to reason with stones fans than others i think because we have more open mind specially if you like brian jones you learn that from him
Im 32 and Im well aware of Brian Jones, my mum, remembers him although is not a fan!! Ok im not that young but many younger than me are aware of him. He will always be remembered for those who want more than just the obvious. As a woman I am repelled by his said violence towards them but I am not sure its right. I believe that he was very ill. I dont think he can be dismissed that easily. He built the foundation that Mick and Keith rely on. R.I.P Brian.
@HP281 AFAIK Anita was the only woman that Brian beated. There's no excuse for that but I don't think that he would have done it if he was clean. He was to fragile for that. Drugs can break boundaries. Especially in combination with a mind like Brian Jones. Mick and Ronnie haven't been nice guys either.
Yes your right there. Anita Pallenberg would have tried the patience of a saint. Thats true also about Mick & Ronnie. A lot of their demons dont get so much attention as Brians. He never got a chance to show his nicer side.
Brian was an enigma that is for sure, the sad fact is he lost it. True Stones fans will always remember Brian, he was after all the original Stone. His experimentation with instruments was genius. There was another side to Brian which was masked by his dreamy eyes and softly spoken lisped middle class accent. He had children he ignored and was known to beat women. I recommend reading 'The Stones' by Philip Norman, it tells the story very well.
@Milo9874 Brian was told to neglect his girlfriend and his son by Oldham. Lennon was told to do the same by people around the Beatles. Regarding his other kids...he wasn't the only rockstar to live that way...
Jones ' legacy is remarkably enigmatic. He was an undisputed instrumental genius, but he never contributed a single original composition to the group. He was key to forming the Stones and charting the band's direction, but now he is virtually forgotten. Far more than Mick or Keith, he was the embodiment of danger and rebellion, but today 9 out of 10 people today couldn't put a name with his image. But those of us who remember him from the 60's will never forget.
I agree, they could have shown their faces at his funeral, it irritates me, he did the lot before old keith richards got stuck in, he just got lucky. I do think Brian had such a hard time of it, all those drugs and nobody to help. Sometimes you just have to force somebody.
They didn't go to his funeral! That's pathetic, the may have disagreed at times and Brian was probably quite hard to be around when he was properly into drugs, but they still worked with him from the beginning. He started the band and even thought of their name!
The least they could've done is go to his funeral after kicking him out of his own band!
@chanctonbury63 Untrue. Brian had a lot of friends and was liked despite his problems. Even Keith seem to have liked him back in the day. But then Keith wasn't so filled up with the myth about himself then as he is now.
BJ was an amazing musician he experienced different types of music from a whole different race and he would mix them with rock and roll making masterpieces, and then you got the part where he founded the stones they do not have my full respect tho due to kicking him out instead of helping him with his drug habit
brian really was a huge part of this band! he had a real presence and his splashes of paint to his songs made them really special. i don't think they would have been so big without him!! really like his beard pics excellent video thanks
@ledzeppelinzoso92 No. The autopsy report says he had only the amount of alcohol of 2 beers and no illegal drugs were found in his blood. No one knows FOR SURE how he died. I guess he was murdered. Murder for hire I think. Sad story. :(

@drebyrd54 you say "by all accounts" that's just not true. There are plenty of us that remember the REAL Brian Jones. You need to do some reading besides Keith Richard and his agenda.
kittenlyric 1 year ago
@kittenlyric In addition to Keith Richards, there is A.E. Hotchner's "Blown Away", which is a collection of reminiscenses by Ian Stewart, Marianne Faithful, and many others. Unless you actually knew him personally, I would say that if you think you knew the "real Brian Jones" from the mountain of media bs that surrounded the Stones, you are in Lalaland.
drebyrd54 1 year ago
@drebyrd54 you and that other keith richard fan that keeps posting negative things on all Brian's videos need to go to the keith videos and leave those of us that love and respect Brian alone.

rolling stones are my favourite band and im a huge fan of all the members but it's a tribute to Brian to say that the stones never bettered their music from the 60s when Brian was apart of the band!!

So he leaves many mixed feelings......
maxytac666 1 year ago 2

Sad dude.
sportsmediaamerica 1 year ago
If only he weren't so narcissistic and schizo (and liked to beat up the ladies) he could have had a nice niche in the Stones into the 70's, or at least formed his own band. Guy just had too many issues.

SEXMAGICKROCKER 1 year ago
@troubadude That isn't true, Keith had to beg Anita to leave Brian and go away with him. Anita wasn't the only one to claim Brian was abusive either. And Keith put the hit on Brian to protect Anita? You can't be serious. Anita left Brian two years before his death.
xXPinkGoddessXx 1 year ago
@xXPinkGoddessXx Anita left Brian, but she went back to him too. Anita played them both off each other for a while. I am old enough to remember the rumors when Marlon was born so very blonde. Of course you can tell he's Keith's now but back then there was talk cause she went back and forth.

Brian...oh Brian...
ModGirl1967 1 year ago 4
In the beginning, he was a kind of bohemian. Keith and especially Mick were still nice but ambitious boys. Brian set the example, personally and (not to be forgotten) musically. But they outgrew him. And he couldn't handle the showbizz stress. RIP

HP281 2 years ago
@HP281 AFAIK Anita was the only woman that Brian beated. There's no excuse for that but I don't think that he would have done it if he was clean. He was to fragile for that. Drugs can break boundaries. Especially in combination with a mind like Brian Jones. Mick and Ronnie haven't been nice guys either.
atticthoughts 2 years ago
Yes your right there. Anita Pallenberg would have tried the patience of a saint. Thats true also about Mick & Ronnie. A lot of their demons dont get so much attention as Brians. He never got a chance to show his nicer side.
HP281 2 years ago 2
Pallenberg herself was no saint either.
Jones met his match in her.
PAULLONDEN 2 years ago 2
Very true. She was a a self centered gold digger who made two guys miserable. Her mind was stronger than both Brian and Keith's.
atticthoughts 2 years ago

michael07307 2 years ago
Brian was an enigma that is for sure, the sad fact is he lost it. True Stones fans will always remember Brian, he was after all the original Stone. His experimentation with instruments was genius. There was another side to Brian which was masked by his dreamy eyes and softly spoken lisped middle class accent. He had children he ignored and was known to beat women. I recommend reading 'The Stones' by Philip Norman, it tells the story very well.
Milo9874 2 years ago
@Milo9874 Brian was told to neglect his girlfriend and his son by Oldham. Lennon was told to do the same by people around the Beatles. Regarding his other kids...he wasn't the only rockstar to live that way...
atticthoughts 2 years ago

HP281 2 years ago
They didn't go to his funeral! That's pathetic, the may have disagreed at times and Brian was probably quite hard to be around when he was properly into drugs, but they still worked with him from the beginning. He started the band and even thought of their name!
The least they could've done is go to his funeral after kicking him out of his own band!
