The Philistines ceased to exist around 500 BC, after the Babylonians occupied the area. The Philistines further were not the original occupiers of that land. They arrived in what is now Gaza on ships somewhere around 1000 BC or so.

Furthermore, God gave Abraham the land in and around Israel. Jacob and his children ended up in Egypt due to the big drought and later on, their descendants were enslaved. After they finally left Egypt hundreds of years later, they re-settled the land.

The term "Palestina" came from the term "Philistines". The Romans renamed Judea to this as a final humiliation to the Jews, thus naming their land for a long-time and by then, long-gone, enemy of the Jewish people.
