To me, the mission of Christians is to reach the lost. It seems that some of the students in this video seek to ostracize and separate themselves from the lost. Seems hypocritical to me.
I'm just an outsider looking in but as a practical matter can Erskine survive financially if it DOESN'T attract students from beyond ARP membership? Better watch out or you will kill the college with this kind of rigid attitude.
Erskine was, is, and should be a place where Christian students can "work out their faith with fear and trembling". Not a place where they are spoonfed pablum that doesn't challenged them intellectually or spiritually. Challenging your preconceived ideas is what a college SHOULD do. If these students can't take critical analysis of their faith in a Christian environment such as Erskine, they will suffer for it later in the real world.
I came to Erskine a nominal Christian. I left Erskine a deeply committed Christian with an EXCELLENT education. Did I constantly hear about Christ in my biology class or in my calculus class - No. But I was able to sound out my questions in a caring Christian environment. We were taught to critically analyze and debate. If we strip Erskine of its academic freedom then the essential character of Erskine will be lost to the detriment of these students.
The motto hasn't changed, it is still "Scientia cum moribus conjuncta". "Forever connected" is a recruiting tagline. It is part of a larger phrase "Forever connected IN CHRIST, learning and life"
Geez.... Put them in the real world and they would fall by the wayside... SPS hmmm I was a charter member and remember having one of the Early Atomic Scientist visit campus and speak. I met the Habitat For Humanity founder at Erskine. I got into some good theological conversations because there were non-christians on campus. I found that their points of view tempered my belief. Yall need to get out of your sheltered lives more.
Christ had his faith tempted while being crucified on the cross. Why is it these students are not able to withstand some simple questioning of their faith by some professors? I, for one, never found a college professor to be all that intimidating (and I went to a school with professors who were Navy Seals, RANGERS, and Special Forces). If these students can't hang with the big dogs, then maybe the little bitches should go home!
Let me get this straight, the President of the Physics students; a major whose entire course of study is in what causes motion, how motion affects other things in the universe and the power it takes to cause motion to happen; is supporting a group whose entire belief is that all actions and reactions are due to God and Christ?
I believe your efforts are misguided. It seems to me that you want to seal off Erskine from the rest of the world. It also seems to me that you only want to learn and hear about one "brand" of Christ (being the ARP perspective). There is only one way to salvation in Christ, but Christ is bigger than any one denomination. As Christians, we are to live in the world (but not be part of it). By excluding the lost and their viewpoints, you will struggle in the end to reach the lost.
The point of college is to learn about the different views of the world. If we just learn the Christian view, how are we supposed to know how to deal with the non-Christians that we encounter? As an Erskine alumni, I am pleased with the education that I received. The views of both the secular and the Christian that I learned from Erskine have helped me in more ways that I will ever be able to voice. I hope that this doesn't come to fruition because the last thing this world needs is another cult
This is ridiculous. I know you guys think that you are doing good and that you have a duty to voice your views (which by all means you have a right to do) but you have to recognise what you are inciting through your tactics. There are proper ways to voice your views and this is not it. Making mountains from moll hills is not respectable. Declaring Erskine to be Christ-less and loveless is absurd. Being in the world and not of it doesn't mean being elitists.
You have opened my eyes and I now understand that I didn't hear Jesus mentioned enough during lectures on mitosis or Pre-Columbian American cultures. Save me, ARP Synod!
Come on! This is rediculous. College is supposed to be a time for people to grow and discover themselves - in knowledge and at a school like Erskine, in faith as well. But growing in faith doesnt mean being fed only one view. ITS OKAY TO BE EXPOSED TO MORE THAN ONE TYPE OF BELIEF. because faith that is never challenged cant be called real faith. I am an Erskine student and Im ashmaed of this retarded video.

Although I go to a much less controversial school, I was compelled to watch this, and I don't see a problem with the main argument the Gospel as center of Christian education. If these guys argue everyone at Erskine hates God and Billy Graham needs to intervene, they may or may not be right. I wouldn't know, I'm not a student, but it seems to me the harsh posts from everyone (who went here) don't show preeminence to the Gospel in their own lives, which in effect supports the movie's deduction.
Come on, guys. I know most of you personally, and I know you're smarter than this. Use your God-given blessings of good brains. Don't trap yourselves into a spoon-fed version of our faith. College is a time for learning and growing, don't deny that to yourselves or others. The lack of Christian humility and servitude in this group is extremely disturbing. -Will Ferguson
Shame on you students for doing this. I know you are being coached by some "behind the scene" administrators, ARP preachers, and Professors and I KNOW WHO THEY ARE.
I don't have words for how disappointing this video is to me. One student here feels called as a missionary, but doesn't want a non-Christian to be in her class? Also, at what point did it become ok for a student/group of students to decide whether or not other students and professors are Christian? What are the indicators of someone who is holy enough? I feel sick to my stomach when viewing this, but mostly just sad because of the ignorant, elitist comments being associated with Erskine.
this is crap...you aren't showing christainity by posting this on youtube so therefore you are being two faced to what you are trying to state...get a life and step out into the real world and smell the roses
Find real purpose in your life by living in the real world and quit shutting others out. Douchebags, hopefully if the cult thing you want works out you will drink the kool-aid first.
Wow. As a student at Erskine, I take pride in my school and as a Christian, I take pride in my faith but this is way off base. To suggest excluding someone from our school because they are not a Christian is absurd. Do you really want Erskine to be a Holy Huddle? College is a place to prepare yourself for the real world; the real world is not the place you want Erskine to be. What you are looking for is Vacation Bible School.
There are tons of people who take pride of being a graduate of Erskine, my wife and myself being one of them. However, you are making it an embarrassment. I hope you don't get too far in trying to make Erskine College a cult. My question is how do you judge someone else's relationship with Christ. HAHAHAHA WHAT A JOKE!!!
As an Erskine alumna, I am disgusted, embarassed, and ashamed that Erskine students posted this video with these views. Don't hide behind Christian views and then try to make Erskine into a cult where only those who think a certain way are accepted. Did Jesus only reach out to those who already believed? I'm a Christian girl who loves Erskine, and this is sickening to me. I'm praying for Erskine but because I feel the devil is there - riding the backs of views like this.
While I have grown up in an ARP church, have parents, grandparents and even great grandparents that are Erskine alumi and have known Christ my whole life. I am truly disgusted at the words and actions taken by Erskine students. I, as a Christian, feel is it our duty to love EVERYONE, as God loves us, even non-Christians. To suggest that they have no place on Erskine's campus because it is a "Christian" college baffles my mind and truly makes me question where Christianity is going.
Thank you for your courage and diligence in creating and posting this video. I stand with you and I know my pastor and his wife do as well. We are praying for things to change as they must for Erskine to overcome and be found faithful. Be strong in the Lord.
WELL said , BUT why ARE you THERE?

I agree with shulerb. If you wanted to go to Bob Jones University, you should have applied and enrolled there instead.

Close the doors. Go to Lander and get a REAL education. At least your diploma will be worth more than the piece of paper that it is printed on!
