  • Thanks for the great video for explaining VLC, but I wanted to suggest to GET RID of whatever bad frame-rate recorder you are using, since it makes it hard to watch the video. Instead, try streaming the desktop and audio through VLC to a file; like this (remove the ()): ht()tp://w()ww.youtu()be.com/watch?v=bWspkz()2Y4lI

  • Great tutorial!

  • Nice tutorial. Those who want to stream to the internet (outside their LAN) and have a slow upload might want to know how much bandwidth does it use and if it can be regulated, for example changing the quality of the video so more people may watch it simultaneously. Is something like that possible in VLC?

  • thank you for this. finally someone using ubuntu with this tutorial. I get it now. very straight forward. good job

  • Really helpful. Thanks!

  • Well this was very useful, but what i was looking for was a tutorial to how to stream a video to multiple people online, Can you make a tutorial on how to do that? (please include how people will connect to the streaming video once streamed, and if any router/system options are needed to be changed to allow people to watch the video) thank you

  • Question, this works to make my static ip a video server on port 8080 if port is forwarded, then ANYONE over internet can view my stream via typing in my public ip:8080 ? is this correct>?

  • @dondeisel

no this is your static ip inside your personal network, it will work on computers that are connected to your router. If you want to stream to everyone you need to first get static public IP which is very expensive but there are alternative tricks like dyndns.com , set that up and then open port 8080 in your router settings and everyone who will use your dyndns address with port 8080 at end of it will be able to stream that.
