it feels so weird watching this now that iv seen the original play. especially since they kinda messed up the relationship w the prince and tuptim. in the original he was the prince but she was one of the kings wives and the mother of i think the twins it was...anyway she was the one to fall inlove with a pesant and they tried to run away together but in the end they both die (not because of the king but for reasons unknown)
