  • wow i had no idea there was a special on my 2 fav sitcom ladies.....lucy and roseanne together, wish it was longer

  • This would have been more interesting if it had only been about Lucy, and more in depth.

  • Puke! Mistake to juxtapose a Legend with the crude Roseanne.

  • Lucy deliberately spoke in a high-pitched voice in ILL because she was older than Desi in reality and wanted to come off younger in the show.

  • Lucy didn't mean 'loser' in the usual sense. She meant he would self-sabotage. Desi had to ruin their marriage, he was self-destructive; that's what she means by 'loser'.

  • I am a huge I Love Lucy fan-and was appalled to hear her talk about Desi in that way-calling him a loser! She married him! So, what does that make her? And Gary just pisses me off...Why in the hell was he even apart of this interview? I can tell you that Barbara Walters wasn't interested in him but in Lucy.

  • @lindseyalex2010

"Why in the hell was he even apart of this?"

Probably because Lucy wanted it that way. She could be insecure when forced to play the "real" Lucy in front of the cameras.

  • She spoke honestly about Desi, but Desi himself seems to have admitted to these deeply imbedded faults he had. What a shame! It's clear that Lucy did not speak out of anger at Desi, but out of disappointment for the way had acted during their marriage. It was clear that she was still very much in love with Desi in this interview. You would have to be tone deaf to miss that.

  • @swimmerman1 swimmer...you hit the nail on the proverbial head! I believe, what she had with Gary was what she felt had been missing with Desi. But no doubt, he was the love of her life!!

  • Barbara was young!

  • Barbara, please please become legitly informed before one sidedly interviewing Syrian president Assad. Your misleading the world of American compassion and

    intellectualism. Love,... its wonderful.

  • And I don't like how he's making 'Cute' Comments...well, guess what? You're not cute...

  • I've always felt that Gary made Lucy laugh and probably pay the bills since Lucy couldn't even pay the check(; But I guess since I've never met him, I have no right to judge, but I don't like him. I see hime leaving Lucy alone all day to play golf and and then come home and won't even play backgammon with her, even though I've heard he was very good. I always felt Lucy became lonely in her later years...and yet I wonder why...

  • I love Lucy

  • Well, I'm disappointed the video ended abruptly. Where's the rest?!? I was just getting into it...

  • @Jennafu832 ....Read the description provided (Jeeesh!) This is from a later 'best-of' special. This is the amount they included, sorry. If you're unhappy you should write Barbara Walters' people and tell them. Tell them you think while youtube is free and great that you demand full interviews. Maybe if you stamp your feet loud enough they'll give it to you. I'm sure your 'thank you for posting this when you noticed no one else has' comment is coming shortly down the pike! (Ha Ha)

  • @sbmsalz2 lol...LMAO!!!

  • Barbara Walters is freakin ancient

  • Did she call Desi a loser ? What the hell is going on ?! This is insane... I'm sad to see Lucy as such a bitch... but you know, if I was her, maybe I would've said the same thing, who knows... only her knew how she was feeling

  • @TheMaxou92 Lucy and Desi had a very open and candid relationship, both during and after their marriage. I don't think Desi would have been offended by her remarks. They still had a love for each other and remained close friends, but their lives together didn't work.

In truth, for all their considerable talents, Lucy could be a real bitch, and Desi was a hard drinker. As for Desi's womanizing?? They both had their sexcapades.

  • What is wrong with Luclle Ball's voice, when ever I watch I Love Lucy her voice is higher in pitch

  • @TheGoldenEyedboy heavy smoking and aging does that to you.

  • Lucy called him Dessssi?

  • @SuperRickyRocket Yes, because his name would be pronounced like that in Spanish, instead of the "z" in the American media pronunciation. Does sound weird, huh?

  • I can tell from this interview that Lucy was a bitch. Not all the time but still I know the divorce wasn't all Desi's fault. They just had too many problems I do feel sorry for Gary just sitting there and I wonder how Desi felt watching this.(If he was watching this) Whatever love is weird.

  • Oh come on, it's obvious Lucille was still in love with Desi. All the body language and facial expressions and lack of eye contact. I guess the both of them were too hurt from the divorce to admit they were still in love with each other. Those later years must have been tough for them. Imagine they both slept with other people at night, not with each other. That must have been psychologically traumatizing.

It shows that couples cannot be too passionate about each other.

  • Lucy obviously carried a lot of resentment towards Desi and there remained unfinished business. She praises him and then slams him and claims to not understand what went wrong. Her marriage to Morton seemed happier and yet she won't let him get a word in. Fascinating stuff.

  • @57timmyb I can't help but agree with you

  • Poor Gary Morton, I know it's wrong to speak ill of the dead but the dude was a massive tool. :/

  • @LadyCadbury ..ha ha. I love it. 'Tool' does seem to be appropriate; though I never met him. He just seemed to give her such bad advice; just went golfing all the time and collected fancy cars. But he did make Lucy laugh (she said) and never cheated on her !

  • @LadyCadbury gary stood in lucy's shadow but that is they she liked it and made him most comfortable...i think he loved lucy but he also loved her money and power. he signed a pre-nup cause evry1 said he wtd her money!! lucy was a very strong willed women who liked to get her and was a control freak. part of the reason her and desi did not work out was because she wanted to control him and he was an old school man's man. who believed the women she stay in the kitchen or the bedroom.

  • I found it sad, and insulting to Gary that Lucy could not seem to answer the questions about Gary. She had to defer back to Desi all the time. I am a huge Lucy fan, but felt sorry for Gary that she did that. Yes her past with Desi was significant to her life and she should've answered questions about Desi when asked accordingly, but when asked about Gary, she should've given him some consideration.

  • I hope walters gets cunt and tit cancer. she is rude and arrogant.

  • Lucy hated failure and she said that she viewed her marriage to desi and a #1 failure. She was honest and Desi was the Love of her life but sometimes Love isnt enough. I also think she weighed some of her words due to Gary sitting next to her and I am sure since they were interviewed on TV she didnt want to look as though she was disrespecting Gary.. I mean what is she supposed to say with her 2nd husband sitting there? Gary knew he was second banana.

  • 2:06-She obviously has not heard Lucy's background. I don't believe that she was shaped by her divorce, I don't think a lot of people are. If you read her autobiography, you completely can tell that she made it and was shaped by her childhood.

  • wow lucys voice sounds really diffrent

  • Lucy & Desi = Soulmates

    Gary Morton = Nowhere

    I hate Gary ...

  • WOW, you know a woman is powerful when she can get the "new" man to move into the house she shared with the "old" man. It's clear who wore the pants the second time around.

  • @zacefronswife100 smokes'll do that to you :(

  • seems to me lucy's second marriage was all about security in her middle to later yrs. not saying that she did not love him. but they do not seem to have the chemistry she and desi had

  • dude, why the hell is rosanne in the same video as LUCILLE BALL??!

  • @lolipopohlolipop Because they both had great success starring and producing their own sitcoms. Roseanne is a multi emmy award winning show that was run and based on Roseannes real life. She may not have been the 1st to do it like Lucille, but she accomplished a lot. Her show was on for 9 years.

  • I wish Gary Morton wasnt sitting there putting his two cents in ....Lucy should have done this interview alone , I think she would have felt much more at ease to speak to Barbara about her marriage to Desi. Morton kept interupting the conversation...it really urked me when he said "Oh I think thats past"....like what does he know? He's not Lucy or Desi to even say that. I must say tho...Gary did make Lucy happy although I wonder why he's not buried near her when he died. He remarried?

  • I wasn't aware that even back in the 1950's there was much prejudice against Latin Americans like Barbara Walters says at the opening of the interview.. and Lucille Ball would not take crap from racist prejudice folks; Amazing that she gives all the credit of building and managing their Desilu Empire to her husband Desi Arnaz; She really loved him to the end.

  • It kinda makes me angry how Gary insults Desi, while Lucy defends him. Desi may have made some mistakes in his life, but obviously Lucy still loves him and Gary is trying to replace him it seems like. I'm glad she shows Gary that she still loves Desi. It may be rude of me and a bit biased (because I adore Desi Arnaz) but I think Lucy and Gary were never as in love as Lucy and Desi. I think Lucy married Gary to sort of fill the void, even if she did love Gary. Just my opinion. Desilu Forever<3

  • Lucy didnt find her true fame until she was in her 30's like Oprah did. RKO studio never secured decent films for her. If she and Desi had not formed Desilu studios and the many franchises she would have ended like many female actresses in the 1940-1960's. We women deserve quality work par our talent..

  • it's so weird to see lucy without desi

  • I liked Lucy far more in her earlier days as a comedienne, when she did the I LOVE LUCY show.

As the years went by, she became tougher, brash and less entertaining.

  • Wow.

  • Said some nasty stuff? I didn't hear anything nasty. I hear her praising him and being honest. The "looser" comment is that he built everything up like she said in this clip, and then he lost it all. So I did not feel like that was a nasty comment if that's it. Anyway thankyou for posting t his up. Lucy seems agitated while talking about Desi, so obvious she still loves him. sad

  • How uncomfortable for second husband there to be listening to his wife talk about her first husband.....strange

  • How dubious of Barbara Walters to try to draw a connection from the great Lucille Ball to Roseanne Barr.

  • wtf is gary there??? Why is he talking???? i don't like him.

  • @XximwishinxX I agree. What a dirtbag talking about Desi. He shouldn't be there, but since he is he should of just kept his mouth shut.

  • @XximwishinxX I can understand how he feel about Desi. He cheat on her and more then once. Lets face if Lucy was the glue for desi to even havea job but he F it up by sleeping around. So if you think about he has every right to dislike Desi

  • .......that being said about modern family you know with the racial minorities the gay families it really reflects with our time even Roseanne reflects with our time very raw sarcastic no wife in the kitchen with an apron like I love Lucy not to say the 50s or back then was all goody goody they had drugs and sex back then too but everything Is just more realistic now but I love Lucy is a funny show I watch it it's cute but more of a fantasy version of life but Lucy still deals with the trials a

  • Well you can compare the woman however even their they are both funny in their in right I think I should address the elephant in the room or the obvious in Lucy's time the 30s 40s or 50s everything happy blue skies the wholesome 50s or 40s/30s And in roseanne time the late 80s early 90s things were more realistic and not as leave it to beaver even Roseanne said she didn't want to make like a sappy Brady bunch corny show And it really reflected with the time like bow with modern family...

  • I miss you Lucy! 7:12, i watched that episode today :)

  • I miss you Lucy!

  • I love Lucille Ball , but when Barbara asks her about what happened to her marriage to Desi , she says she doesn't know ???? She knows exactly what broke up their marriage. She is not telling the truth. She did this alot when the subject of Desi came up. I guess she didn't want people to know how much she still loved him.

  • @ILoveUPenguins You can buy Desi's autobiography at Amazon.com that's where I got it. It's a good autobiography , very funny and I think very sincere. After you read it , you'll understand how much he really loved her.

  • Love Lucy, Love Roseanne, Despise Barbara Walters!

  • @SOLE2SOUL lmao i agree with you!!!!!!!!!!

  • @andrestwain - Additionally, if you actually listen to this interview clip, Barbara's voice-over says (at 3min, 30 secs) Lucy was 66yrs old at the time of the interview. Since she was born in 1911, she would be 66yrs old in 1977. The newer segments of this show (beginning and ending) is from approx 1992.

  • @andrestwain - This interview with Lucy IS from 1977. It's a "Best of Barbara Walters show'. It contains new & old interviews that Barbara Walters conducted. According to the author Geoffrey Mark Fidelman, who chronicled all of Lucille Ball's tv appearance in his book called "The Lucy Book", this inteview took place in 1977.

  • i love roseanne but not as much a i love lucy and in ways they are the same they both didnt want something that wasnt real and they both made tv show that related to the ppl but roseanne was funny cuz of her sarcasum and lucy was just funny lucy didnt it all and i have yet seen a comedian do half of the stuuf lucy did and she will always be the queen of comedy even if its 1000 year down the road

  • I see why shes comparing them like how Lucy was SO famous and successful during that time and shes saying how Roseanna and being very famous and stuff during those times i gotta admit lucy is more of a legend but i still love Roseanne! lets all just love comedy !

  • @IsntLifeJuicy89 I couldn't agree more. Today when you call someone a loser you immediately think they are low lifes. Lucy definitely did not mean it in that way at all. You can understand fully how she felt about Desi when you youtube the kennedy center honors when she was one of the recipients. Desi had passed away a few weeks before and a letter was read to her from Desi and the look in her eyes says it all. A big part of Lucy died the day Desi did. Gary was her companion not LOVER

  • Comparing Lucille Ball with Rosanne Barr, what type of drugs is Barbara Walters on?

  • Lucy is rude here, treating Gary like her lackey, interrupting him whenever he speaks.

  • @Cineramicfilms - well, she bought him all those cars ... he should be happy to just sit there and make sure his toupee doesn't go lop-sided

  • @mkrobinson95 Lucy was THE dominant one in that relationship. What she said, goes.

  • lucy didnt ment a thing she said about desi..its just a womens thing when they talk about there ex's

and we all know desi arnaz is not a loser and never was a loser he worked hard the results in i love lucy is magic thanks to desi then lucy

if it wasnt for love..for the love he had for lucy he would go on in show business like he did on the i love lucy show

the world love lucy i love lucy desi loves lucy and she loved him and we all love to hate roseanne barr LOL

  • Comparing Roseanne Barr to Lucille Ball is ludicrous.

  • where is the rest of this?!

  • Barbara Walters Did not do her Homework I Love Lucy was based on Lucy's radio show My Favorite Husband ,the show only changed names and profession for the male lead when Desi was cast on TV . Liz Cugot was Lucys name in its first radio season of the show.

  • oh roseanne shut your fuckin fat ugly mouth - the more you speak the more people hate your twat

  • Gary dedicated his life to Lucy even giving up any of his own dreams.

  • @TIPTON340 Even though he was compensated in many ways for his sacrifices, I agree that they were indeed sacrifices. Sacrifices to be there for Lucy, to be devoted to Lucy, which he was. Maybe towards the end things, as in any couple, got "testy", but the love was still there between them, and i don't think a lot of fans see that. It was very easy for Lucy to be married 3 and 4 times, but that marriage was, apparently, full enough to stay alive.

  • I don't give two shits about Roseanne. Lucy, all the way<3.

  • If anything Roseanne was more comprehensive.

  • Roseanne and Lucy aren't to be compared, but its pretty secondary and thoughtless for everyone to trash either one. Lucy defined the 50's, and Roseanne, really, defined the 90's. And both of them were geniuses during their times. Ever see a show put on by Lucy in the 70's that was funny? Is Roseanne funny now? The answer to both is mildly. But both were pure entertainment in their respectful decades. So don't trash.

  • Roseanne and Lucy are not even in the same category at ALL! Lucy was a genius!!!

  • @JenniferPvlsh Roseanne was white trash. I hate that show. Lucy was and will always be the reigning Queen of TV Comedy.

  • What the heck was Gary Morton doing in the interview.

  • I'm pretty sure the comparison is because Roseanne and I love Lucy both had female leads in a very successful shows. Obviously Roseanne barr did something right bc her show was on for 9-10 season and maintained 15-22 million viewers.

But Lucille Ball is a legend. But I think that is why there comparing.

  • Lucy's beautiful house was destroyed after her death. The basic house is still there but it went through a horrible re-model and now looks like a tacky big tract-house on a very expensive street.

  • As AfterTheWind commented, Lucille Ball and Roseanne Barr are not even in the same realm. Lucy was a true artist, hard worker and set a bar that others should only hope they could reach. Rosanne Barr attained her status (I would not even call it success) by just being over the top. Does anyone remember her singing the Star Spangled Banner - an absolute insult to anyone who considers themselves to be an American.

  • Damn she looked so hurt when talking about Desi... Desi was a fool to hurt a woman like Lucy...i mean to me she was a wonderful person. if only Desi had seen that, but he was too busy screwing showgirls.

showgirls or Lucy? Lucy hands down. WTF Desi?!?

  • I Love Lucy more than any celeb that has ever lived...people call her a "bitch" but thats cause they are jealous of what she achieved. She will ALWAYS be #1 in my book

  • Roseanne, what a disgusting no talent woman...only Barbwa wah wah would dare to compare them... but hey, she is a shameless shill, just like Oprah

  • For me its two different way of comedy. Lucille has a great gift of making physical comedy - and Roseanne has the power of the words... both great at what they do.. but Lucille is a legend because she did it again and again and was the first at this.

  • Geez, why compare these to? Lucy is a legend, a television pioneer beloved by millions. I like Roseanne and I think she had a great show but she can not compare to Lucy. Lucy is to this day the queen of television...nobody will ever be able to touch her.

  • @tikifabulous I feel the exact same way!!!! I love Lucy and Roseanne but seriously who could compare the two??? Makes no sense

  • Love Lucy with her dog at 3:28!! :) So adorable!!!

  • I agree with isntLifeJuicy89. Lucille Ball seemed very candid and honest, right from the sleeve. Compared with how today we use the word "loser" to maybe identify someone as being worthless, I think Lucy was honestly just using the term here to describe Desi's actions as a self-destructive person who often ended up "losing" what he had at first gained or "built up." It's obvious she was a really wise person who could separate the personal from the business. She respected Desi's achievements.

  • Thks fr uploading! I have nv seen Lucy did an interview w Barbara. I stil feel Desi was her true love as 1st love are hard to 4get. And they really had something for each other.

  • thanks for posting. I think Lucille Ball sometimes put up a front when it came to talking about Desi. She still loved him, yet she was married to Gary. I read Desi's autobiography and he says beautiful things about her. And all of us that have read so many of the books written about them , know that she loved him until the day she died.

  • Thanks for posting this clip, I've wanted to see it for a long time! I love how she just continues to cut Gary off, but it really wasn't his place to answer about HER first marriage. She seems as though she is truly venting about her marriage with Desi. But, to compare Roseanne Barr to Lucille Ball? That is just a grave injustice. No offense, but Roseanne can't hold a candle to Lucille Ball. Lucy was legendary.

  • Comment removed

  • Finally! I have been waiting for this to be posted Thanks!! Do you or anyone have the complete interview with Lucy??

  • There is a longer version of the Lucy interview I hope someone will post.

  • Roseanne and Lucy are NOT to be compared. Lucy outshines all comedic actresses. Lucy must have really been upset by Desi's book. I actually started to tear up. I just hope that Lucy regret saying those things about Desi like that. She really did love him all her life. Thanks for sharing this!

  • @AfterTheWind

I remember being a bit shocked at Lucy's comments re Desi. After reading many books I came to believeLucy was still in great pain over Desi. He WAS the love of her life and it seems she went to her grave still blaming him for their problems. Here she is obviously venting her frustration over the hurt and she never came to peace with it. What is astonishing is that her 2nd husband is right next to her and can't get a word in edgewise. She would never have done that to Desi.

  • Comment removed

  • @AfterTheWind I think I mean the way she explained herself was fine in saying that he always had to lose & was just being honest. It just comes off blunt at first when she says she married a loser until she explains what she means I think.

  • @AfterTheWind The word "loser" in the sense that Lucy uses it, is different than the way we interpret it today. I think she pretty much explains what she means in this clip that Desi couldn't "win", he always "lost" and thats how she is using the term "loser". I remember reading in one of the biographies, possibly Lucy's autobio that she believed Desi to have a destructive nature about him - he had to "mess up" everything he had which was visible through the infidelity, drinking, gambling, etc.
