Does anyone know where I can purchase this version of the tune? All I see for sale is the 2007 digital re-mastered version - not done half as well as the original. Thanks in advance for your help!
Great Zevon. Warren was a very diverse song writer . Covered most genres from love, to gorillas, to Goons on Skates. And this Hawaiian ditty is humoresque. Kind of reminds me of a woman I took to the Bahamas. Got tired of my muscle for a dude with a big boat.

Zevon and this song in particular show that great material don't need immediate pop appeal. He proved he was able to do it with Werewolves, but most of his work is much deeper and personal.
LOVE the kitchy album covers! They go perfectly with my favorite line, "I didn't have to come to Maui to be treated like a jerk/How do you think I feel when I see the bellboys smirk?"
Is there more form this show? How did U get this? Amazing version of one of my fav Zevon tunes. I was fortunate to see him at least 8 times. Only twice with a full band.
scary, you wonder if he has a gun or knife or?? why isn't he walking away from this babe? It's not like he was the most faithful man in the universe ... but now suddenly the tables are turned & he has to study the behaviour..
My only regret is I never got to see him. I will however have every album he created. He is without a doubt one of the greatest artists this world has produced.
I don't get the negative comments on The Envoy. The production is a bit dated, but aside from the throwaway "The Overdraft" the songs are great! This, "Jesus Mentioned", and the title track are some of his early best.
bruce springsteen schoon volk ?
If I recall correctly, "The Envoy" was shelved (censored) by CBS. Compared to "Bad Luck Streak" & "Excitable Boy" he should have died then and there to stay in the race! Mr. Z is writing better music dead than anybody today is living. Thank you Mr. Z!
Classic Zevon: satiric, biting, caustic, sarcastic, derisive, all sung to a pretty island tune! Come on, no other musician in history can top this kind of thing, and Warren did it so effortlessly.

I like this song because he must have felt it as it really sounds that way in his delivery and really hes bitter and alone!

Zevon's ironic sense of humor really is displayed in this song...I love this much overlooked one!

I saw him on Letterman once - he said it translated to, "Sing the chorus in Hawaiian."
Loved that guy.

All together now...
"A'hina 'ia mai ana ka puana, A'hina 'ia mai ana ka puana"
Man,
This was Maui in the 70's to the bone
( or at least ,it's what I can remember ) ;-)

z8it: Warren said on Letterman that all the Hawai'ian means is something like "sing the chorus now"
So, there must be more you what you're saying than what you've said, and I'd like to know. Please, tell me more.
