  • Does anyone know where I can purchase this version of the tune? All I see for sale is the 2007 digital re-mastered version - not done half as well as the original. Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Great Zevon. Warren was a very diverse song writer . Covered most genres from love, to gorillas, to Goons on Skates. And this Hawaiian ditty is humoresque. Kind of reminds me of a woman I took to the Bahamas. Got tired of my muscle for a dude with a big boat.

  • Zevon and this song in particular show that great material don't need immediate pop appeal. He proved he was able to do it with Werewolves, but most of his work is much deeper and personal.

  • Great song -- one of his best, and that's saying something. Nice montage!

  • It takes a lot of hard work to get this good.

  • @MDBrookman thanks for the reminder, past me.

  • LOVE the kitchy album covers! They go perfectly with my favorite line, "I didn't have to come to Maui to be treated like a jerk/How do you think I feel when I see the bellboys smirk?"

  • Is there more form this show? How did U get this? Amazing version of one of my fav Zevon tunes. I was fortunate to see him at least 8 times. Only twice with a full band.

    Amazing performer.

  • Warren...

  • "I didn't have to come to Maui to be treated like a jerk"- LOL Warren you were truly amazing.

  • Im going there tomorrow. :3

  • I love hawaii!

  • love the guitar at the beginning

  • Still so funny, add another adjective, acerbic.

Probably the Scot within him. Some man though

  • You have some fine Hawaiian records there my friend

  • I like this song because he must have felt it as it really sounds that way in his delivery and really hes bitter and alone!

  • Zevon's ironic sense of humor really is displayed in this song...I love this much overlooked one!

  • scary, you wonder if he has a gun or knife or?? why isn't he walking away from this babe? It's not like he was the most faithful man in the universe ... but now suddenly the tables are turned & he has to study the behaviour..

  • My only regret is I never got to see him. I will however have every album he created. He is without a doubt one of the greatest artists this world has produced.

  • @crimsondagger1 we saw him in va beach will never forget it!

  • "Ha'ina 'ia mai ana ka puana" get to the point. Not a huge Zevon fan, but this song is great

  • I don't get the negative comments on The Envoy. The production is a bit dated, but aside from the throwaway "The Overdraft" the songs are great! This, "Jesus Mentioned", and the title track are some of his early best.

  • bruce springsteen schoon volk ?

  • Didn't care much for the envoy album, but this song is one of his best!

  • If I recall correctly, "The Envoy" was shelved (censored) by CBS. Compared to "Bad Luck Streak" & "Excitable Boy" he should have died then and there to stay in the race! Mr. Z is writing better music dead than anybody today is living. Thank you Mr. Z!

  • Why the hell aren't people viewing this!!!

Classic Zevon: satiric, biting, caustic, sarcastic, derisive, all sung to a pretty island tune! Come on, no other musician in history can top this kind of thing, and Warren did it so effortlessly.

  • Never missed Warren when he came to Philly

  • The hawaiian translates, "Knock off the crap, cut to the chase"

  • I saw him on Letterman once - he said it translated to, "Sing the chorus in Hawaiian."

    Loved that guy.

  • Rip Buddy!!

  • All together now...

"A'hina 'ia mai ana ka puana, A'hina 'ia mai ana ka puana"

    Man,

This was Maui in the 70's to the bone

    ( or at least ,it's what I can remember ) ;-)

  • z8it: Warren said on Letterman that all the Hawai'ian means is something like "sing the chorus now"

So, there must be more you what you're saying than what you've said, and I'd like to know. Please, tell me more.

  • That was a great show. Dan Dugmore and Gurf Morlix on guitars.( no drummer on that tour)

  • Who would of thought Warren could (would?) do a cute song like this. Great stuff!

    LONG LIVE THE Z-MAN!!

  • He has been deserted by his woman, who takes off with the car valet and the pool boy.

  • ...anybody wonder if Don Ho enjoyed this song???

  • It's almost sad. So sarcastically blue.

  • Shoots, Singin alil Hawaiian!!! Man I love this guy

  • i loved this song when i first heard it on the Envoy.very funny.

  • Wow.nice gem of a song

  • album covers add to the camp of the song - i'll bet Z would have loved it.

  • This is the best Zevon boot I have ever heard. Man what a legend

  • Oh boy, this song is so so good.

  • We miss you, Warren. Thanks for the memories. I miss my old friend, Terry, with whom I saw you those times at Wolfgang's in San Francisco.
