  • Congrats on having the best tromboon video on YouTube, as far as i can tell.

  • Wow. It's the aural equivalent of being pistol whipped with a red-hot poker.

  • so this is the instrument they use in scary movie soundtracks...

  • "This is for our 3 and 4 letter named teachers"

    WHAT????

  • inception brungghngh

  • That's so metal.

  • To a trombonist, it's hilarious.

    To a bassoonist, it's sacrilege.

  • Glenn Miller's "Little Brown Jug" and "In the Mood" would sound hilarious on the tromboon...

  • Professor Pete Schickele's greatest invention--combining a reed and a slide! It sounds like an oil tanker's foghorn...

  • *farts*

  • this is what my house sounds like after we get taco bell

  • this is ballin in a totally weird way

  • The coffee cup in front of my speaker started growing spindly limbs and teeth while this was playing.

  • Angelic flatulence.

  • The fact that you were able to make a coherent song using the tromboon is awesome in its own right.

  • can you get me sheet music for this? haha, like serious, this sounds so cool. :D

  • Gnarly!

    Is that a G/D bass?!?!

  • @contrabassbob

    ?

I would think this would be one of the more interesting things here..... :)

  • Hey, can you please play Over the Hills and Far Away??

    Merry Christmas!

  • What is the name of the song?

  • the trombone is made to sound like it has a cracked bell..... this makes it so much worse

  • As a trombone player, I can confirm this unholy union is the awesomest thing in the universe.

  • @8BitTehGameMasta What if HENDRIX played the tromboon?

  • So there IS a 5th dimension...

  • I'd have to admit that this is one of the ugliest sounds I've ever heard, and would not bother writing anything for it, or that uses it in the scoring.

  • look up P. D. Q. Bach on wikipedia. I think he's credited with inventing it. It was a joke, just like his whole life.

though, for the record, I'm curious about hearing any random CHUGGGACHUGGA style heavy metal song with the rhythm guitar replaced with tromboon.

wouldn't be to far off, lol.

  • I think it would be texturally appropriate for an arrangement of the first piece from Schönberg's Op. 16

  • Frightening sound; fantastic name though.

    The TROMBOON.

  • I would like to request a peice played on a tromuitar. It goes something like this: ......

  • wow!

    haha you cant be serious...

    i give ya proppps =]

  • This is fucking great.

    Play the tromboon with pride.

  • for a bit I couldn't figure out how the sound was being made, then I realized you had bocals leading into the trombones. ...Very nice.

  • you know whats kinda funny too? put the mouthpiece in the bell have of the trombone so your not using the slide and try playing a high note like high c and listen to how high it is

  • Sounds like a cross between elephant music and and the sound of a woodchipper. How long before this is used in real performances?

  • omfg

    I WANT THIS

  • is that silver trombone pitched in C or Bb?

  • haha, i tried that and everyone in the room was like wtf? they were so confused, lol.

it was pretty cool though :)

  • best thing in the world, next to the obumpet!

  • I should try this. I have plenty of people playing the trombone near me and I play the bassoon myself.

  • me too

  • ducks with low voice

  • you can do that with a baritone too!!!

  • i play the basssoon this is frickin hilarious

  • Having 2 players just makes it twice as worse.

  • WHAT HAS SCIENCE CREATED???

  • They sound like electric trombones more than fire engine horns

  • nice... i think I'm going to go and try this

  • whad a nutz video

  • They sound like a tuba and bassoon mixt together

  • i play horn and bassoon too but when i put the mouthpiece over the bocal it just sounds like the mouthpiece alone

  • I play both the French Horn and the Bassoon, and putting the mouthpiece over the bocal isn't that great, but if you use the fingering for the bassoon you can play all the same notes as with a reed.

  • I've read about this and it's an actually instrument. They say it's the worst of both worlds. A slide and a double reed.

  • What range can get out of that...also, is there a way to put the trombone mouth on the bassoon?

  • Nope.

  • The 1st position partials are at G#2, G#3, C4, Eb 4 if I recall correctly. We got a few C5's out, but not many and not consistantly. Then each slide position is about a half step like normal. Haven't tried the trombone mouthpiece on bassoon yet. Not sure how that would work.

  • You would figure that since the sound is coming from vibrations, a mouthpiece would act as a reed. Maybe I'm thinking too simply about it. It worked for the reed on the bone...

  • The trombone mouthpiece is pretty large compared to the end of the bocal, and the bell joint of the bassoon doesn't allow much space for a mouthpiece in the bocal opening, but a F. horn mouthpiece works well by putting it on the end of the bocal. You can get some different pitches out. A trumpet/mellophone mouth piece would also work but smaller mouthpieces work the best.

  • I love the tromboon music theory discussion :) Awesome :)
