The plan was poorly made, yes, but they had absolutely zero training on how to handle a terrorist situation. Also, critically, if the officers who had been disguised as air crew had done their job and not run off like a bunch of pussies this far-fetched plan actually had SOME chance of working, but their absence tipped off the terrorist leader and it fell apart from there.

Whenever they were attacked, they had to fight back in some way to show they were a force to be reckoned with, since they were basically fighting with only the funding from the US. E.g. when they were invaded once (can't remember when exactly, possibly Yom Kippur War?), they beat off the attack and then invaded themselves. In some ways you can't blame them, but it is questionable some times.

Also just by seeing fighting tactics you can see how meager the Muslim armies tactics are.
