  • i like it !

  • Great film and love travelling, but I never understood why the character burned his money and then ends up working in a fast food and an farm later on. Anyway he undesrtood too late that traveling alone is goodbut the best moments of travelling is about sharing those good moments with others.

  • @theandredgex

Your not getting the plot well

His trip was for something more than having a good time, all he was trying to do was to deatach from society and all the poluted materialistic feelings we have as a society (greed, hatred and prejudices) so he burned anything that had him chained to it and went to live life as pure as it could be, although he sometimes had the need money it wasnt for greed but to get stuff to ease his adventure, stating that money is not evil. and it is just a tool.

  • @mauriciog1612 how is hatred a materialistic feeling?

  • yea my mistake, i misread what he said but never-the-less; great movie and great music :)

  • Great song!

  • THE ONLY THING THAT I WANT IN MY LIFE IS TO TRAVEL ALL THE WORLD....IT'S NOT JUST A DREAM ,IT'S A DECISION....AND THIS MOVIE ENCOURAGES ME!!! :)

  • We never really can share how we feel entirely , theres methods like language or music but were stuck with ourselves with are conclusions or feelings .

  • happiness is a state of mind, experienced and triggered by the experiences you've had in your life. Saying that is real only when shared is a generalization but not truth. Just my thought..

  • On a pinnacle with a great view the truth can be obscured by the foliage. listening to this I question what I need to find to get what we all want out of life. Where do we look to find ourselves?

  • I listen it when i play minecraft :D

  • @DjBrokentrack Minecraft=gay

  • His happiness was actually shared a bit through this movie.

  • you twats, be at the end of everything, when you're dying and all the beauty and happiness you have seen you wanted to have shared but you never will cause you're fuckin dying?? this is no discussion about what happiness is, whatever lonely hapiness you might find, at some point you will want to share it, imagine this being not possible, everything you have seen and felt has never been able to be explained to nobody.. actually go out there instead of having these ridiculous discussions!

  • @danius927 maybe he took it to the next world?

  • We as human beings have the capacity to experience all the beauties of this earth

  • Don't worry, be happy

  • Music for gods

  • This song sings now in my mind for a few hours, now i know, i hear some Poets from the fall, same voice almost and how the song works to a climax, but overall great work

  • @napalmthem, i heard this song today for the first time in my live.it happend to me to ,i was totally overwelmed, point is , i am working as a soundtechnician, i hear and heard a lott of shit , but this hit me right in my heart

  • Damned Epic I say....

  • <3.

  • I heard this song on the radio today while driving my car. I don't know why, but I almost started crying. Especially towards the end of the song when theres that big musical build up. This has never happened before.

  • This song reminds me of/has a rather strong semblence to the artistical style of Sting's (particularly considered as a solo artist), so much so that upon my initial few hearings of this song, I sort of half-guessed that it was by Sting. Implied by all of this, anyhow, are implied complements; this is a real, genuinely authentic gem of a song. And, I would suggest that it is, basically, already a classic.

  • I think Chris would have been upset with this. He would not have wanted a movie twisting him around the hollywood finger. Although I thought it was touching, it really made an example of everything Chris would not want. Chris, although trapped in his moral judgement and insecurity, really wanted to be free. That yearning trumped his cage of fear. He became what he wanted. He left the places that he could not live with. The message is clear: be yours. Own yourself. Be free in your motivation.

  • such a cool song....

  • (insert profound comment here)... I didn't know there were so many naturalists on youtube... ;)

  • @runnerguy911 I'd say they're more transcendentals. But I agree. I think this story of absolute freedom is one that touches a lot of people; a true classic. The message is relative to the heart and the world, a place increasingly closing in on itself in its preconceived knowledge about itself and life. But I don't think a lot of transcendental people came here in search of videos to comment on. They, like me and you, were changed somehow deep within their passions and their yearnings. Be free.

  • I've watched this movie with my best friend and as soon as the movie finished we just sat there for 45min until he said:"Man we need to hitch-hike this summer" And we hitch-hiked from Germany to Istanbul living off of 3-5€/day. Thank you Sean Penn for inspiring us!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. After that I made a world travel to Northern America, South America, Australia, South East Asia!!!!!

  • @tschawaloco You can do a world travel because you are rich...My world travel last summer started in the south of Spain and finished in the north of the same country XDD

    What a fail

  • @DunkDuncan No you dont have to be rich. I worked a lot when I was still in school and the world travel ... I financed everything with the work in Australia. I earned $800-$1200/week and I've worked for 6months altogether, so yes it's ok. And then I paid my Dad everything back after Australia and with my taxback I financed South East Asia. You just have to be smart in the things you do ;))

  • @tschawaloco You did all that in 5 years? This film was from 2007.

  • @TheLovvestLevel Yes I started hitchiking when I was 17 and then did that for three years, me and 3 friends to the nicest places in Europe. And then i went to America for 3months, to South America for 8 months, Australia 8 and South east Asia 4 months :)

  • @tschawaloco Love the song, movie, eddie, etc. No doubt the song touches the soul & inspires a revival of the human spirit...thank you for that. I feel the movie is tragic in the way the way it reveals the admirably defiant & nonconformist endeavor as ultimately a selfishly fruitless life lesson. If he had died in the same manner but with his true love by his side he would have passed in contentment...instead he seems regretful. 1 of 2

  • @daedae3000 I feel the message is that hapiness is non-existent without the relationships and hapiness of those close to you.

  • @tschawaloco I really want to do something like that, Good on you for giving it ago. Respect.

  • @tschawaloco sean penn is a prick. thank christopher mccandless. it was his sacrifice.

  • @TheRaellz He didn't even sacrifice anything, he went into the woods and died, and now everyone thinks he's a hero. We don't even know what he was doing on his way to Alaska, he could have been getting ass fucked and doing meth for all we know.

  • @qwerty118678 Erm, he sacrificied 24 thousand dollars, he left his family, home, school, society life and went out alone into the woods. That's what I call a sacrifice.

  • @qwerty118678 no, he's not a hero. his sacrifice was his untimely end so that he may be an inspiration to us all.

as someone once said about him "He died Alive."

  • @tschawaloco Yeah because Chris' journey proves that hitch hiking is a good idea.

  • @qwerty118678 No, he proves living life free and not doing what everyone else does is good and that it should be the very core and essence of life.

  • @tschawaloco hey mate happiness is only real wen shared...mail me before ur next trip n i will come along...

  • @tschawaloco hitchhiking can be dangerous, you know.

  • @AlexanderIsaacConan life dangerous thats y its so fun live life not with the fear of love but with the love of fear

  • @tschawaloco Sean Penn? well he wasnt in the movie but I'll forgive it for the fact you seemed to take the lesson to heart and make the best of the time with your life to travel. God bless you and take care.

  • @Kanzaz he's directed the movie

  • @Kanzaz Sean penn directed the movie

  • @tschawaloco did you say living off the land?

  • @tschawaloco you should've vlogged that shit, i gotta do that too lol

  • All these human emotions..... people are strange

  • @bartjuhbeekmans including me ofc.

  • @bartjuhbeekmans People ARE strange and so is life, but thats just to START with, i believe life and "people" can only be described in an infinate number of words on a never ending invisible surface that is time.

  • @eyesontoast50 oke thats cool if you think like that. but im more down to eurth.

  • AWESOME song.

  • I <3 Eddie

  • This song is amazing!!!!!! I play this song every morning to get me through the day. Eddie Vedder is simply the BEST!!!!

  • This movie changed my life :)

  • I disagree with the outdoor experts. McCandless was just looking for something he didnt know how to find.

  • "Once I dug an early grave, to find a better land" What the whole story was about, great job Eddie

  • fuck i so agreee

  • flot fugl. AKA. Nice bird!

  • My favorite Eddie Vedder vocal by far! And, while most covers/remakes aren't as good as the original version, this one is the exception. Best cover ever, imo!

  • @berrygirl964 Excuse my ignorance but I didn't realise this was a cover. Who sung it originally? x

  • Hayatimin fimi

  • Eddie Vedder fills the shoes of Bob Dylan for me. He has never written anything that I didn't relate two.

  • there's an ad in the middle of this song. FUCK everyone. The god damn advertisers can shove it up there asses. They are ruining art! and fuck the video poster for selling out for a couple bucks that shouldn't be his anyways!

  • @Zanazuah lulz

  • Awesome job on this song, Eddie.

  • @Zanazuah or a gate to other, better world

  • Great song !!!

  • look at the likes bar, it looks like a long, green road. the way to freedom

  • things such as impossabilitis or insurmountable odds can always be surpassed if one tries hard enough with in the realms of physics

  • After all the bullshit he'll give you, he's still got the big hard sun above him.

  • It taught me to question life

  • @AnyColourYouLike1OO Thank you for recommending that reading! "Nothing is going to make any real difference in your life except separating yourself from the balanced physical world. It can and will change everything." I am on my way to personal enlightenment with nature.

  • I could travel the world on a motorcycle listening to this song and not need anything more ever again.

  • @Beculetz You just need fuel :)

  • @Beculetz Exactly! i went on a trip on my motorcycle(not a world wide trip) listening to this :D i love this song and "End of the Road"!

  • @Beculetz I still would need to kiss a woman

  • @Beculetz exept gas

  • @Rtuin9 HAAHAHAHAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAA :D -this comment just made my day LoL

  • @Beculetz Just some gas for the motorcyle

  • @fmlc1111 parrot :')

  • @Beculetz sounds perfect can i join you : )

  • @Beculetz haha yea man all i need is my backyard overlooking the lake, and this song playing very loud.

  • @Beculetz apart from gas

  • happines only real when shared.

  • @vlovesDM So if I am happy when I am alone its not real happines? Why is that? I'll admit. This is my favourite movie. That quote is the onte thing I don't like about the movie. I Don't think it's fair. Happines should be individual. We are not all the same.

  • @FTH039 i agree with you completly.....some of the times when i am alone......i am in bliss ! with 6.7 million people on this planet....alot of people think if you don't agree with them .....your wrong......i don't let anyone pull me down....i do what i want to do..i think how i want to think....i feel like i want to feel...I am the one who walks in these shoes every day...the recipe for life and living is different for EVERYONE. have fun ! we are all not going to be here for very long...

  • @mwupchurch there's way more than 6.7 million people on this planet..

    we recently hit 7 Billion.

  • @TheRaellz you are correct.....was having a few shots last night and meant to say 6.7 billion.....wow....still seems like a lot of people on such a small planet.....take care...

  • @FTH039 Sure man. Happiness is perceived in different ways. You name it. I personally believe Chris tried to convey a specific message: no matter how happy you feel, there is nothing more satisfying than sharing your experiences with someone you love. and then you've reached the highest point in life. I loved both movie and book, those kinds of stuff are truly inspiring only to people belong in a different more independent level of thinking. Peace out

  • @FTH039 Human beings are truly social creatures. What good is life without family, friends, and great people to interact with? I interpret Chris's greatest mistake as not accepting the elderly man (forgot his name) as his grandfather and cutting off contact with the hippie folk (forgot their names too). In my opinion, the moral of the movie is to live simply, but to enjoy others' company as well. We all need alone time, but who wants to die alone?

  • @FTH039 That's a good point. But the movie is about an individual, so the quote is his realization at the end of his journey. It's not necessarily a universal truth, just his. :)

    Love this song and movie!

  • @FTH039 You're wrong man. Happiness should be individual when there is no other choice. But should be shared when possible (but only with the right people)

  • @FTH039 happiness alone is a delusion!

  • @FTH039 you have to use your discretion with this movie because it's about what it means to you, but it's a similar argument as the tree falling in a forest, as in, if you're happy alone does it count when no-one can experience it with you. and it doesn't to some, and it does to others, no one can explicitly say what happiness is, but the point is that after all his time spent alone, Alexander concluded that he wanted to experience life with someone else, and i think that's fair enough

  • @jonnygaymer "no one can explicitly say what happiness is". exactly, that is what I mean. That's is why it is wierd when people say i'm wrong when I say happiness can be real when not shared. In the movie, or in the story, he is happy both with the right people and when he is alone. At least as happy as he can be, due to the family issues that are still haunting him and so. If he asked himself, before the bad things started to happen to him, if he was happy alone, he would say yes.

  • @jonnygaymer I just can't accept when someone tells me what happiness is. That is why I commented to begin with. But just to answer what you said in the end. Yes, he starded to feel lonely and so, so he wanted to go back to people. You are right. BUT, that doesn't make the "alonehappiness" unreal. And thats why i don't like "happiness only real when shared".

  • @FTH039 He only said "Happiness only real when shared". I guess that's how he felt, if you can feel happy alone then you'd have said it the other way around, right?

  • @mainmenu895 I think happiness can be a lot of things. The word "only" shouldn't be in the same sentence as the word "happiness". Not like this at least.

And also, if you watch the movie, you don't say to yourself: "this guy is only happy the times when he is with someone... Oh wait. He was happy there for three seconds when he was alone, but that was not real happiness. It wasn't shared.

  • @vlovesDM indeed! but we all know that when it's too late.:(

  • @vlovesDM Never have I agreed with anything more

  • @vlovesDM brainwashed, yet correct. derp FUCKIN DERP.

  • you wann hear something funny?? theres people going around all the into the wild videos and posting the same heartful comments to see how many votes up they get..

    you guys are CRAZY MANG!!!

  • You can fall in love as many times as one will wish, but there's 1 love that cannot be changed; the love of those who surround you, and the way you fall in love with your single life...

  • Such an amazing song. Although Eddie Vedder is an amazing songwriter, this is actually a cover originally done by Indio.

  • so nostalgic

  • GREAT! Awesome!

  • fuck awsome, eddievedder is a dam goooooooooooood artist love his song writing

  • @taramatthews86 This song is actually a cover ... but Eddie is a genious songwriter

  • The film has change the my look on life and most importantly my own life and how i can trust my self to take care of myself by just being myself , not as in doing what i want to do or listen or dress how i like but to be a pure version of me , my thoughts , my feelings and as i am only 14 now and i will make sure that i will go and see the world that is so great it is beyond comprehension. Connor W.

  • @Zanazuah Anywhoo I'm just screwing with ya. I just don't believe in all that peace and love stuff. At least we can probably agree Eddie Vedder is one hell of an artist.

  • @Zanazuah Video: "Tasmanian Tiger", Your comment: "homo"

You my good sir, are a hypocrite as well as a flamer lol

  • I want to go on a tremendous spiritual journey. Unfortunately, it's raining, so I guess I'll just watch TV instead.

  • dope

  • This song just as everyone of the Into the wild... makes me think of the greatest woman I have met. I loved her first second I saw her, I knew it was her the moment i kissed her... I proposed to her... lived together... and we are no longer together....

  • I'm Fallin In Love With This Song !!

  • this song is very beatiful

  • Very cool rythmic pattern.. the accent goes on the 3rd beat in 4/4 measure. I thought it was some awkward measure

  • Laying down listening to this; completely mesmerized by the beauty of nature. This really does give me high-hopes.

  • Man I used to unnecessarily dislike Pearl Jam... hearing this finally opened a wonderful, wonderful door

  • chris mccandless ws abrave yougn man...

  • We need to come together and seek the truth. Like one big organism, The only way we can achieve this, is by truth. We need to understand Our Nature, The Nature of the Universe, And the Nature of the mind, We are living in ignorance of the world around us, We need to open our eyes, before it's too late. We have tried everything else? I'm not looking for an Argument, I just want to share something inspired with you. Search ''truth contest'' on Google, Read the Present (universal truth).

  • i love the song and the movie too ... But i'm sad because i can't find the book in my country ...

Love you Eddy .. and you Christopher !! or Alexander

  • @andreiy294 I'm assuming you're russian or at least from eastern europe

  • @TheSaltyKoala i'm from Romania ... so ?

  • I wish there were more albums like this one, but I think it is impossible. This soundtrack is a one of a kind, so special...

  • After I saw this movie ...I decided im going on a trip like this but in Patagonia!

  • I have red the book , in our english class lot of people say that it is stupid.. Well acctually they are stupid. This book and movie changed my look into the life. It has showed me how we can trust our self , how we can do things that thet call ''impossible'' , this book showed me how to get after my dreams , and i will do it no matter what others say.

  • @fetentenple1 I also read the book in my sophomore english class. I read the whole thing in a few days, i could not put it down. Meanwhile, others were trying to find it on sparknotes. The book was beautiful and the movie was just as great.

  • @fetentenple1 i feel the same, you cant do everything though....i mean.....chris did die

  • @fetentenple1 this is fu*kin fantastic and you better NEVER give up!

  • @fetentenple1 and then die from poisoning ourselves in an old bus

  • Comment removed

  • @fetentenple1 weird, it taught me to listen more to those who care about me and not only do things i wanna do.

  • Classic

  • I am going there next year!!!!

    2012

  • the movie was of a fool like countless others before him who have traveled up to alaska to get "into the wild" and have passed away. Every year there are countless people like this guy who die from being unprepared for the cruelty of Nature.
