The oil issue is probably that the previous owner didn't change it very often. The best thing you can do is to (as you said) is to change it more frequently. Don't put anything in there to clean it.
The only issue I've had with mine was a radiator, but at $100 I can't complain.
Here's the tune up list: fuel filter, plugs/wires, PCV valve, air filter, techron fuel injector cleaner. Easy stuff to do...probably a 1 day job.

Yeah, it needs new rims, but these HX wheels are super light. Like 11 pounds.
It needs nice wheels and a lowering, but I don't want to spend the money.

they last forever my sis has a 98 with 140000miles no problems but needs a tune up
but the oil for some reason or another got really gunky and was charged more to get all that shit out
but no problems at all with it
and she drives 100mph every day about 300miles a week and it takes a beating but it wont stop

Yeah, they're good cars! Mines a 98 as well.

well it was my moms before she got it and we changed it every 3000miles
but she lives in vegas so the heat might have something to do with it
o well my sis dont know a whole lot about cars but ill let her know

A tune up made a huge difference in efficiency! If she takes care of it, it'll last her a long long time. Even with 148,000 on it.

I was probably averaging 75 or so. Keep in mind that the speed limit is 40mph...so I didn't really feel comfortable just flying.
Lots of farm equipment frequent that road.
