@Xsighting101 It's odd to see large tornadoes this far west. Most of ours are a bit smaller. Elbert is maybe 1.5 hours southeast of Denver. Not sure if this was the town or county of Elbert.
Colorado averages somewhere around 25 to 30 tornadoes per year. Most of them happen towards the east, but Denver and some of the other places are also known to get them. You definetly have to watch out for hail storms in Colorado, it can get really bad at times.
Now that was an active year for sure. Kansas averages around 50 and in 2008 I believe they ended getting 187 if I remember this number right. I know Oklahoma's record is above 100 also. But 82 in Colorado is definetly an active year. I know Oklahoma's lowest tornado count is 18. I think it was in the 1980's when this record low # of tornadoes happened in Oklhoma. 51 in one county is really amazing. Thankfully the majority of tornadoes are in the weak category.
I should have recorded Denver National Weather Service radio at the time.. It was going haywire and saying things I'd never heard before such as "this storm is capable of producing strong to violent tornadoes"
Hey Verne, fellow S.T. member Joel Ewing in Tucson here. Man....you must be living in accordance with the laws of divinity to be on your way to Kansas and bag these gorgeous naders on your way outta town! Beautiful score...congrats!
st4tic the earth is NOT drifting towards the galactic equator it's actually drifting AWAY from it. ppl just want to make a big deal out of it and say that's it's going towards the galactic equator because 2012 is coming up and they want ppl to panic about the world ending. :P
It possible that we will start seeing a lot of extreme and odd weather everywhere in the coming years. The Earth is drifting towards the galactic equator which has a strong electromagnetic field. No one knows for sure what it will do but, strange weather is one probability. I doubt much doom and gloom though. It has happened before and it will happen again. It's a cycle.
That sucks cause I just live a few miles away from there! We've been having storms like no other lately. It is really depressing cause it's supposed to be summer and it's supposed to be sunny!
We've been having a lot of storms here in East Tennessee as well, but this is actually an improvement, because a couple of summers ago, we had little-to-no rain whatsoever, and it got so bad, the entire state was declared a disaster area because our drought was so severe. We were like nearly 20 inches below average for our annual rainfall that year.
Eastern Colorado around the Colorado/ Kansas state line is relatively flat compared to the rest of the state. Once you get to Denver, that's where the real big mountain ranges start.
There has been a recorded Tornado in every single state in the U.S.
There are also recorded tornadoes in the majority of Europe. They are certainly not a US only thing. Im pretty sure a tornado could happen anywhere in the world.
well i dowbt highly theres been a tornado in antactica but your roight the wierd thing is is that america is the perfect place for them to form we got cold air going down from cananda and warm air coming down from the gulf and when that mixes in the air i dont think you will be in kansas anymore
especially considering how far west these storm cells are developing. i have lived in the springs my entire life and have never seen anything like this befor. its crazyness.
Ahem, I was 30 miles away, beautiful, blue skies, chirping birds. Its been like this all week. They have had tornadoes of some kind every day (eastern colorado). Global warming? I dont know. Climate change? For sure. But I tend to think of it as the nature of our planet.
No,but recently I was going to an open house with my mom,and we drove right into a servere thunderstorm, and there was a bolt that struck not even a mile away,I plugged my ears, but it still hurt a bit, well,it gave me a headache, then I was trembling, hyperventilating, and going like"Get in the house!Get in the house!I don't wanna get STRUCK!!!!"I swear that storm was nothing compared to this other one I actually didn't notice much, too much XBL LOL
That sucks we were having a bad thunderstorm at my house and i was watching tv in my living room with my head leaning up against my window and then a cloud to ground lightning bolt struck right outside the window!
i went to the gym tonight and got back to my room so i can watch my newest subscriptions of all of ur twister videos! great job! always fun to watch!!
ya i hear ya. well i live in sd and my brother lives in la and u just have to know what ull do in these situations. & to just not fear. who likes living in fear. u just do ur best & educate urself on quakes.

Kiowa's in Elbert county, as is Simla and Elizabeth... El Paso county to the south, Lincoln to the East, Douglas to the west and Arapahoe county to the north. Elbert county's a tornado mini-alley due to the Palmer Divide intensifying storms.
