Guys, I don't want to start a war here but this song has absolutely NOTHING to do with the IRA. This is about a tragedy which, quite simply, should never have happened. Christy told the truth and he was, in my view, unfairly treated by the fact that the authorities DID ban this song.
What happened at the Stardust on that tragic night was horrific but the way that the families of the victims were treated was absolutely disgraceful
I agree buster this is not a religious matter but a matter of greed by a fucker who got away with chaining 48 people sorry children to die. why? to stop a few kids from getting in for free. BASTARD.
lot of comments about this on youtube but i think nobody know what they were talking about. in my view a total miscarrage of justice to all concerned. and by the way my wife still crys on valitines day reading the memorials in the paper about her friends who died that night and whos sister was there that night but through the mercy of god survived. so comments about the british and the i.r.a. etc etc etc all i can say is blow it out you hole.
I promise you all my dear friends, dead and alive after the stardust you will never be forgotten. many years have passed and i think of you still and always will.
Its about the Stardust Niteclub club fire in 1981. It was on Valentines day 48 died, because the fire exits were chained. To this date no compensation has been paid to the victims families.
this whole situation was so so sad. But what really puts the icing on the cake, is that Christy was found guilty of contempt of court for writing this song. It's horrible that even in the mid eighties, people get bitched at for simply speaking the truth. R.I.P the 48 children who never came home.
Ireland will never change it's still a land of corrupt government now as it was back then, the rich just bleed the country & the judicial system is a joke. It will always be a banana republic.
I would like someone who can actually spell to explain in plain english, what exactly the British legal system had to do with Christy Moore's song being banned from being played. I think that after over 80 years of independance, the Irish judicial system is mature enough to do it's own dirty deeds.
In anticipation of the Valentine's Ball on Friday 13 February 1981 the Stardust disco on Kilmore Road in Artane near Dublin was crowded with young folks on a night out when suddenly two seats caught fire. In no time the place of entertainment became hell on earth.
Thick smoke filled the disco and intoxicated many visitors. Others were trampled by a stampede of youngsters trying to get out.
hose who managed to reach the windows and exits found the way out obstructed by bars and padlocks. The called in emergency services only could watch how people got squashed between the barred windows and the panicking crowd. The Dublin hospitals filled up with wounded and the city morgue became overloaded.
In the following lawsuit the Garda could not produce any evidence of arson. Nevertheless the judge concluded that the fire had been started deliberately,
But the owners of the Stardust were only found guilty of gross negligence for keeping the emergency exits blocked. Due to a legal technical flaw however they escaped prosecution and claimed for over 500,000 Irish Pounds, approximately 635,000 Euro, in malicious damages.
Despite some legal recognition and financial compensation, gained after a struggle which lasted five years, the relatives and victims are unable to close this chapter because regularly new facts and eyewitnesses,
all incriminating the owners and the Dublin Corporation, surface.
Thats the story of the Stardust Fire.
Christy was held in comtempt of court by the Irish Judicial system for writing this song which critises the Government and the Judical system over a, then and now, very sensitive case.
It had nothing to do with the British Judical system except in the minds of thse who still believe we are influenced by Britain. Poor fools them. While our system is similar, as it was built on teh exsisting model, it is our system.
Brilliant song he speaks the truth i hav strong views on the brits but to be honest they hav nothing to do with the stardust tragedy it was a cover up by An evil club owner who was helped by the irish government who shed "crooked aul tears"
This is about the Stardust fire of 1981 which was in Dublin you idiot..it was an IRISH court which found Moore in contempt and ordered the song be withdrawn from sale.
who do you think ur calling an idiot dickhead we all no that the huns have always had an influence over the corts no matter if there down south or up north
The Irish Government because the lyrics criticizied the owners of the club and the government's handeling of the disaster and how the government favored the owners of the club over the victims' families
im 15 and think its disgusting how they can ban this song from radio, the man shows an amaing truth
the disrespect shown by the owner of the club was also disgusting, how did he deserve compensation when its his fault that 48 young promising lives where stolen. and all because he had the fire doors chained
This is how it is everywhere - Christy tells the truth ..the rich buy ''justice'' and everyone else is left holding the bag. Shameful (but when do those folks know the meaning of shame anyway - guess it's wasted words)
(I know this sounds retarded)Whats the song he sings, its kind of fast paced and goes didley-idley-idly-iddly-diddly-idle-o in the chorus, he does it mad fast and it sounds deadly, cant find it
Id say its the Rose Of Tralee Song that Christy does, I dont think its on here but theres a lad Miming it to Christy singing on the Jukebox, if u type in DOC IN OMAGH u will find it joey86el
my sister thelma died in this and her boyfriend micheal i had a fight with her and should have gone with her that night can never ever forget so dont take the piss ,miss her lots and want to say sorry xxxxxxpaul
@shelsdublinfulham not your fault we all have are fall outs.. thats familys for you.. unfortunately you never got to make it up.. uve no reason to be sorry luv shes forgivein u xo
this song was banned from radio at the time, disgraceful censorship, the fight for justice still goes on to this day, butterly should still be locked up for murder
My parents were teenagers then, and they should have been there coz' loads of their mates from Kilmore West were dancing in the Disco Finals that night. Many of them burnt to death, as the song "Disco Inferno" was playing. Horrible, but very true.
It´s all about the song remember not about spelling.(this is not my first language so please excuse me) Lets look at what the song has to say and not watch the spelling you twats
my baby boy declan is buried with his auntie and uncles in sutton god bless his mammy selina and his nanny mcdermott bertie should come clean and help these poor souls.
I heard that night - the whole of Dublin came out on the streets. We heard of one woman who caught the bus to go to her daughter in the hospital and she took a heart attack on the bus and died on the bus. Downright sad, the whole thing. As the song says, it appears the law favors the rich...... I see those graves in Balgriffin, right along the front, and I still feel the tragedy - 26 years on.
This type of incident is even more proof of what a corrupt Ireland we live in. This may get me banned or abused but I hope Eamon Butterly has nightmares every night! He will bring the lives of 48 people to his grave and may he rot while he his there!
im no way related to any people who died or were injured in this tragedy but as i read these comments and listen to this song im heart broken for the people who died and there and families
i lost my brother in this fire he was only identified this year we finally laid him to rest properly with his little brother we miss them and my sister rest in peace
my uncle was with his girl freind that night in the star dust and 40 mins before the fire started a pint spilled all over him so he went home to change and told his bird he would back soon ,that was the last time they spoke . when he came back the place was blazing and he tried his best to get in and save her but the fire was too hot and he was burned all over . shame like , god rest all them souls and may they be sitting on the right side of our lord jesus christ
this song is the voice of so many people that were silenced, its been 26 years, let the victims rest in peace, allow the truth be told, let the song be sung and give the familys and friends some closure and peace x
The owner had chained all the firedoors and all the exits closed. The song put blame for those 48 deaths right where it belonged, the owner and his family. But the Irish Government wanted to believe the owner and his family were the real victims, and gave them hundreds of thousands of dollars in insurance and fees, the victims and their families didn't get a cent. Those families deserve justice plan and simple
tommystros, I've not idea why this song would be banned but agree so much with you comment, I watched the film they made on it only last night! shocking that 26 years on 48 peoples souls have not been laid to rest properly and there families try to live on with this fight on their hands and such heart breaking sorrow in their hearts!
The song was banned because it made out that those 48 victims lost their lives because "the fire exits were chained" which is true firefighters claimed that many of the bodies were found piled on top each other inside the doors just inches from safety....eamon butterly should be done for manslaughter
y was this song baned it told the truth and our leader,s couldnt handel it 26 years later and nothing done its time,s like this that make,s me ashaimed to be irish its a disscrace
Still a sensitive wound for the family of the 48 victims. Rip those who never came home.

Those families deserve justice plan and simple

My uncle Robert Kelly was one of the 48 victims, and was only identified by his dental records.

tommystros, I've not idea why this song would be banned but agree so much with you comment, I watched the film they made on it only last night! shocking that 26 years on 48 peoples souls have not been laid to rest properly and there families try to live on with this fight on their hands and such heart breaking sorrow in their hearts!

The song was banned because it made out that those 48 victims lost their lives because "the fire exits were chained" which is true firefighters claimed that many of the bodies were found piled on top each other inside the doors just inches from safety....eamon butterly should be done for manslaughter

it was banned for it was supposedly interfering with legal progress. In other words the owner's lawyer bitched to get it banned.
