Love, love, LOVE this CD!!!! I also love using it as a compare/contrast listening lesson (original versions vs Soulful versions) for my music students, especially with "Every Valley." You should see the looks on their faces when the Soulful version starts out just like the original, and then "busts out all funky" as one student put it - priceless!!!

WOW, i had this on cassette, found it after like 20 years. This is about one of the best Gospel music productions of all time.

I'll be 23 this year and as a child my father played this CD every year around Christmas. One of the BEST albums I have ever heard honestly. I love every single track. If I am not mistaken Quincy Jones had a hand in putting this together? Co-Producing it possibly? Not sure but I LOVE IT!!! I'll have to get my own copy to share with my children.

@rsweetbelle Yep, I grew up hearing this album as well, and I totally agree in acknowledging it as one of the best albums I've heard! Perhaps it's not for baroque purists, but as an admirer of music, esp. devotional music, I think it was gloriously and respectfully rendered.

I also assumed Quincy Jones helped bring the project together, but he's only officially credited for conducting the "Hallelujah" chorus track. As for the production, the majority of it was handled by Mervyn Warren.
