Angelo Debarro was the most sick picking ever. He plays with such a fucking strong tone , look how the other players look at him like "wow this dude is fucking badass". Bad ass guitar player.
If there are any gypsy-jazz guitarists watching these comments; I'd love to know how to play proper rhythm gypsy jazz guitar. I mean, I can understand how to play the solo's. But the strumming patterns? Wow, there's something else...
Michael Horowitz's book "Gypsy Rhythm" is a good place to start. Also Denis Chang's "JAZZ MANOUCHE: The Art of Accompaniment" DVD is excellent - it focuses entirely on rhythm playing, and there are some clips available on YouTube.
Be very careful about YouTube instructional videos, because some of them teach very incorrect technique.
Depending on where you live, you might be able to find a competent teacher.

This song was the highlight of that 4 hours of concert. Angelo did a world class job and this solo will be always in the top of guitar transcriptions.
I usually do not comment on videos, and keep my opinions to myself.......But this music shits on all of today's pop garbage. This kind of music is food for the starving soul, and with today's music, people need to be engorged in this kind of music. There are so many layers to this song. Like a cake one could say. each layer just as tasty as the one before and after it. Damn I love jazz.
i've listen this tons of times... and every damn time... guys, u just see, u cannot believe yr eyes... this is the taste of music in the soul. No matter if u love metal or dupstep. I do, i love both. But this is just self explaining, this is the spirit of the music itself . Thank you to this guys and to their hands.
my god his pinkie... every time i see him bending with it....... and of course every time i see him playing with such tecnique and soul... ANGELO DEBARRE THE GREAT ! ! !

amazing, but every musician is playing the thing with a different intention over the time. Doesn't make any sense for the ear! However amazing musicians!
@poldoccione this music takes some getting used to for sure, they each have their own flavor, but their timing is perfect... idk what you mean by "different intention" over time, please elaborate if you could :) im just curious, because ive had similar thougts on other gypsy jazz songs, but not this one.

@astaire2012 they have got different intentions over the time means that everybody there has his own conception of swing. Everybody feels it in a different way. Listen to the solo guitar. He's always faster than the other ones. He feels it in a different way. It does not mean that this is wrong. It's just another way to feel and play things!
@AmundLauritzen being indignant about it is a silly waste of time. Sure you compare a hamburger to a fine milet mignon and obviously you know which is the better cut of meat...but 9 times out of 10 even you are going to reach for a hamburger.
putain, pourquoi pendant qu angelo fait sa putain de montée d accords pendant qu il accompagne florin dans un moment intense, POURQUOI est ce que le cameraman montre a ce moment précis cte tronche de cake de thomas Dutronc???
Clue's in the word 'big'. Angelo is the lead player - the guy on rhythm who's clearly not been skimping on the bacon and eggs come 8am is none other than Hono Winterstein. Top geezer.
You can also listen to Henri Crolla, Rosenberg, Romane, Bireli Lagrene, the ferret brothers, elek bacsik and many others. I kind of like also the hot club of San Fransisco.
And, of course, the father of them all, the immortal Django.
ca a deja ete fait, a vienne je crois, ils ont joué ensemble, d ailleurs Angelo a pété une corde "There will be never be another you", c etait memorable car etant des pros, limite ca s est pas vu, Angelo a joué sur les octaves et Bireli a rattrapé, genial, Cett version de swing gitan est la meilleure que j ai pu entendre, et Florin n'y est pas pour rien non plus...

torres399, I totally wondered about the same thing, and I got a lot of my friends to listen to this type of music (most of them are not guitarists). They just simply didn't enjoy it as much as I did. I don't know if we just have a different taste in music than the "normal" people or most people have ears too accustomed to simple music (music based on diatonic scales only). Having said that, I still think that the people that don't know about this type of music are missing out big time.
You know why? Because this is not "formula music" like you hear on the radio. You have to listen closely to hear what is going on.
