  • I use to drive 13 speed but now i got 10 and i m having little trouble i guess the gears are so close together or something

  • you use a clutch? i thought all these years it was a foot rest!

  • proffesional drivers dont double clutch, they float

  • @jman9061 depends on your view of what a professional driver is. most (including me) float the majority of the time. this video is basically to demonstrate how eaton would like you to use their product.

i posted this video and the 13/18 spd one after hearing some fuckwit say he and his boss would fire a driver if they double clutched.

  • @baldymp3 if eaton says u should double clutch, why the hell would someone fire a driver for doing it, what a idiot haha

  • @jman9061 Just remember not to float while learning to drive, at least in Australia. Here we have to double clutch for our Constant mesh classes or it is a fail, even thou yes it becomes rather invalid in the work place.

  • I now have a double clutching everything, cause i learned to shift in a 5 speed Eaton Kenworth K100

  • hmmmm not sure whats going on there. cant say ive ever experienced it. the grind bit is just that you havnt got the revs and road speed exactly right but that will come with practice. dont ever force it into gear though, great way to cause damage. it may even just be a noise from the selector clicking into place as the box goes into gear. this is just a guess though so dont quote me on it. other than that i can t really do much for you mate.

  • @truckerFG what do you mean by pops? generally if your revs/road speed are mismatched it shouldnt go into gear.

  • Both hands on the steering wheel after shifting!!!!! LOL

And both eyes on the road.lmao

  • @eracingregal unless there is a chicky in a short skirt in the car next to you :)

  • @baldymp3 You told the true right there buddy!! LOL

  • ....this almost looks like a simulator type thing cause its too quiet

  • @theweirdthings hehe welcome to the world of modern trucks. gone of the days of having to yell to be heard.

  • @baldymp3 well i know that it jsut looks too.....simulatorish

  • @vladka001 well shit that must mean u really know what u r doing being 14 and all. this guy works for eaton so he probably has a bit of an idea what he is talking about.

  • @vladka001 yeah, at 14 you know a lot, you'd be wiser to just shut your cakehole, you wouldn't come across like such an asswipe then! you can theoretically shift back into the hole without double clutching, but every time you miss you do a pile of damage, anyone with a half ounce of brains, driving their own rig, knows that and double clutches.

  • @1977CaperGuy srry bro my friend crashed at my house and I pissed him off a bit so he was being a dick on my youtube account and yeah. But yeah no clutch = Break if u dont know what u doing. Now I have another 20 vids to say sorry 2

  • @vladka001 HAHA, Leaving your utube account on sucks, people mess with it i know all about it....tell your buddy that he sucks LOL, have a good one dude

  • @1977CaperGuy Thx bro ima kick his ass at school trm.

  • can sombody help me. i drove a semi for the first time a couple of days ago and for some reason every time a tried to change gear it would make an emberassing noise, i wasnt using the cluch just letting go of the accelerator, it was a 10 speed pete 387

  • @maggotsretards you are not getting the revs right when you make the change. what you need to do is match the revs to your road speed for the gear you are going to. if you work on around 400 revs between gears that should be close. been years since i drove a 10 speed so if the revs are wrong please someone let me know. if you are changing up a gear rev out to say 1800 rpm then let the revs fall to around 1400 and you should be able to change without grinding. and the opposite for downshifting.

  • @baldymp3 thanks alot,i will make sure to take your advice

  • @maggotsretards Hmm grinding maybe. Ru sure its a regular 10 or super 10 tell me and if its a super 10 il help u.

  • @maggotsretards Your first problem is not clutching. Shifting without the clutch,(power shifting) can really only be done if your rpms are exact for your speed. On a 10 speed, 6th gear usually goes from 9-15 mph. Say you're in 5th gear, when you get to 9mph, your engine will probably be screaming at around 1900 rpm. Put the splitter up and go to neutral while you wait for your rpms to drop to around 1100 or 1200. 10 speed gears have intervals around 10 mph. At 15, go to 7th, 25 try 8th etc

  • @PersonMike 6th is normally 15-20, 5th is 10-15 ish. Depends on truck. If your in a really low geared truck maybe. Prior to 03, an Eaton Fuller 10 not sure on the model they vary, but 9th would max out to 69+, now 9th goes to 50 so it varies dramatically.

  • why dont use a 5 and 2 xd

  • @MegaZsolti i know! i love 2 speed rears. i learned on a 5 + 2's. Still got two trucks with 2 speed rears. Love them!

  • i was taught double clutching (DC) the first time i drove in school, but they knew in the real world that its rarely used, so the rest of the time they taught us the 'real' way and just told us to DC on the test.

PS. did anyone else look out the window and notice that they're going like 30mph in what's suppose to be 2nd gear?

  • they teach you all this bs in school to get your cdl but once you go to a company and hope you get the right trainer who have years of experience not 4 or 5 i mean 10 or 15 they'll show you the same but they may if you inquire about it show you how to slip shift( up shifting without pressing clutch) its not bad for the transmission but its also not good

  • hmmm, thats odd, thanks for telling me all this its qute appreciated. thanks

  • no worries mate. i believe the synchronizer he is talking about is a similar type of arangement to the likes of a13, 15 and 18 speed or a super 10. they have a synchronizer on the splits

  • yea but have trannys always had synchros or is that a new feture

  • the synchronizer they are talking about yes but its not like a synchromesh gearbox in a standard car.

  • i didnt know about that neutral pre shift thing, mabey thats y non of our 10 speeds shift right, i will keep that in mind. is sincros in the transmission a new feature?

  • from what i can gather its not a "synchro" as in a normal gearbox application. just synchronizez the part of the box that controls the lo/hi range.

  • do you have to double clutch?

  • depends who you talk to. eaton "reccomend" that you do but talk to real drivers and i reckon 95% dont do it. genrally the only time i use the clutch is taking off and sometimes when downshifting when braking.

  • Those are among the most versatile, applicaiton-spekaing:

    Semis

    Garbage

    Large buses

    Bevareg Trucks

    Middle size trucks,specifically.

    Definitely an obvious favorite.

  • I thought you have to be in neutral before press the converter to 6th, I'll never do that again....

  • no, with any road ranger always pre-select any range changes and splits.

  • Good drivers will use a combination of floating and double clutching. i haul OD freight. In low gears when really heavy I will D C in the lower gears. float about 75% of the time. All depends on load and conditions.

  • thats it, everyone has their own driving style.

  • I started on 3x5 and 4x5 so any road ranger is gravy. lol I guess we all should double clutch as the video shows. But my left knee says Hell no now days. lol I drive t-800 w/18 spd. Got to drive an 18 Ultrashift a while back. Got to admit it was darn nice. sure like one in Dallas, Denver, and a few other towns when stuck in mess. 2 pedals-no clutch. Man I am almost a geezer.

  • lol i hear ya man, i havnt got to play with any of the autoshift models yet but i think im going to stick with a stick. sorta being in control of things a bit more but the gearstick is eventually gonna go the way of the dodo i think. the double clutching is something they reccomend but i think its really a way of them to guarantee less trouble with the gearbox. quickshifting doesnt cause any problems unless u fuck it up.

  • @stevesprinceofsteaks i agree with you. thats a good way to shift

  • You can find all the videos by simply searching "VIDEO" in the search box on the Eaton Website.

  • The reason he's double clutching on the upshift is because thats the 'official' way the gears are to be operated. Thats the way youd have to do it on any (that I know of) state administered exam. We all know noone actualy does it in the real world.

  • exactly, almost nobody drives exactly as its stated that you should in this video. and the main reason they use the double clutch all the time is because it removes the load from the drive train making it much harder to damage any components.

  • alls you have to do. WOW! Proper english please.

  • hey people i dont know what you all think, but screw the clutch all together.....i only use it to start the truck, and put it in first gear, other than that the clutch is never used when i drive, i just let off the gas and put it inta gear. i know that can mess up the tranny but trucks have a diffrent tranny than cars so a truck really doesn't even need a clutch, other than for the things i use it for.......

  • i drive pretty much the same as you but sometimes use the clutch on the first part of a downshift because it gives you that fraction longer with your foot on the brake. i agree with you that a car and truck have different boxes but they are designed to be operated with a double clutch procedure but it is not necessary. that said its also possible to drive a synchro car box without using the clutch. all a matter of how you were taught and your own personal style.

  • left foot is on the brake controlling road speed for down shifts

right foot is on the throttle pedal matching rpm

I doubt you can be smooth jumping your right foot from brake to throttle and trying to slow the vehicle while selecting a gear that can accelerate out of a corner

you have 2 feet, use em

  • Yea pressing in the clutch to go into startoff gear is normaly a good idea. And if you didn't know that, then you prolly shouldn't be driving a vehicle equipped with a manual transmittion. And also I must agree with HeatherSFilm, who the hell double clutches on the upshifts??

  • and like i said to heather, the guy is an operational instructor for the company that makes the gearboxes, i think he knows what hes talking about. this is how they "reccomend" you operate their products.

  • Who the fuck double clutches on an upshift???

    Total bullshit.

  • Thats it because an accredited Eaton/Road Ranger instructional operator would have no idea what he is doing would he?
