That was brilliant. I am confuzzed by the bigstar tag tho. That was the POSIES yes? Great rendition of what really is a tough arrangement. Not a song I would ever feel I had the competence to cover.
@suzymills Actually it is a Chris Bell solo song from his album "I am the cosmos" so technically Big Star is covering it even though Chris Bell use to be in the band.
@gnuorder yes, I know the origins of the song and the history.
But, the question was about whether the band playing were Big Star or not. I was simply making the point that the band in that incarnation was indeed Big Star.
@suzymills Actually it is a Chris Bell solo song released as a single so technically Big Star is covering it even though Chris Bell use to be in the band.
@alexandermorison dont be confused or worried. i am the cosmos is my saying. i was lstening to chris bell's beautific perfection and looked for something like this on the net and found this. not bad. slow but good. god i wish folks made it to 28.
Words can't describe how good this is. I went to Germantown HS with Jody's brother Bill and i've been addicted to Big Star since their inception. Bill was always saying, you've got to hear my brother's band! lol Now many years later, the world knows them! Alex Chilton, i hope your creativity is alive out there somewhere. We miss you!
Chris and Alex singing "You and Your Sister" is extraordinary. Not unlike if we'd heard John and Paul duet after the Beatles broke up, on a great tune.
It's a great thing that these guys are doing Chris's tunes, even the solo ones. It's a great tribute to both a great songwriter, and a lost classic tune.
This has got to be one of the most desperate songs ever written. I'm glad they played it how it was written, this song, and chris bell, at least deserve to be preserved.
Yes, this was originally a Chris Bell solo song, but a lot of Chris's solo stuff has retroactively been added to the Big Star canon. Definitely this song along with "You and Your Sister" (which Alex sang and played on), "There Was a Light" (which was demoed for Radio City), and a few others. The new Big Star box set includes the original recordings of this song and "You and Your Sister."
I wonder why alex never sang this.

bell really wears his heart on his sleeve here-gotta take my hat off to him-it's quite embarrassing in a way-but i still love/admire the song

@alexandermorison No, that is Big Star, playing Big Star songs at a Big Star show.
Jon & Ken from The Posies were in the band along with original members Alex & Jody. It is Jon singing on this song, but it's still Big Star.

Alex Chilton & Chris Bell will always be right up there with Lennon & McCartney when it comes to true song writing genius.

I thought I knew Big Star but I only knew a few cuts. My favorite track of theirs was always " You Get What You Deserve" ( from Radio City).
Not to be nit picky, but did Big Star record this song or was it a Chris Bell solo effort?

It's such a shame that Chris Bell was only 27 when he died. Jon Auer is very good, but it would be nice to have Chris Bell sing it.

Chris you were a genius.
