243 Asylum seekers were transferred to other EU states after being caught 'asylum shopping' where they looked for refugee status in 2 or more countries.

To a degree you are right, however, while I admit that we Irish got a shit-tonne of cash from the EU, we HAVE paid back in some ways, an informal agreement was reached that Ireland would esentially be the dumping ground for refugees, this began with Bosnian ppl back in the early 90s and has exploded since, although most countries in the EU have refugees, we have by far the largest amount for the size of our population.

The Irish Times reported last week that the Lisbon "no" vote has shrunk to 30% !
IF Lisbon is ratified :
1.ALL legislation will come from the un-elected Council in Brussels.
2.They can lawfully change anything in previous Treaties ( Article 48 ).
3.The Executive retains the RIGHT to dissolve national parliaments anytime it wishes.
4.The Lisbon Treaty ( Art.1.2:1-6 )abolishes the Nation State & replaces it with the EU Nation.
5.The European Charter re-introduces the death penalty.

I don't really mind having to vote again. It was quite satisfying seeing the treaty voted down the last time and I imagine I will feel the same level of satisfaction after the next referendum.

The EU has ORDERED the Irish government to have another referendum (as many as necessary, until there is a 'YES'). Cowen (like most European politicians) thinks his primary loyalty lies with Brussels and is now studying ways to get the Irish to accept another referendum.
