seen most of these guys play a set with doc watson this past april and march for merle fest same guys i really would love to know that piano players name. they threw a set together because the people who were suppose to play other than doc didn t make it. i seen them JAM OUT.
Wow...am I glad I wanted to hear "Midnight Rider". I went to MerleFest last year for the first time, saw this performance and I must say it was one of the most surprisingly wonderful experiences. John Cowan...one of the most interesting looking men I've ever seen and what a talent!
It is odd to think that I first heard of Sam Bush back in the 1980's when he took ill and his musical friends threw a benefit for him. The emcee was John Hartford, who has now passed on while Sam seems truly vibrant.
Something strange prevents this song to be reworked, just like software security locks. Even Gregg Allman couldn't do it properly in 39 years, always missing the pulse. Haunted should I say?
you're not much of a fan. How Gregg wrote the song and how the Brothers play it are two different things. Check Gregg out solo and you'll feel the pulse. Willie Nelson a very pulse-y version too. This version here, stellar musicians, but they have miss the soul in this song that Gregg and Willie gave it. They need to break some laws and screw some underage women THEN play it again :)
