I think now this was even earlier, '68 or '69? Barry Manilow wrote this jingle before his records started selling in 1974. He also sang this in other versions of this ad.

the reason ppl were ephasizing the cleanness was in early 1900's ppl asociated hamburgurs with dirty stuff ( the jungle - upton sinclare) and after that hamburgure joints started to say it was clean white cassle ( white = clean)
