I see so many people going on about how great things were then, but that was then this is now, technology has changed, ITV has changed along with it.... I too like to reminisce about the past and I agree that there were some great shows and theme tunes and there still is, but I always find it best to move forward. I used to get up early and listen to the 5 minute version on the start-ups, I was 4 at the time... :) Happy days!
Just watched it on your channel, excellent, almost as good as I remember it back in the early 80's when I'd be up early (for a kid my age at the time) to watch the start up....better than the previous one they had with the 'Ilkla Moor Baht'at' tune.
@simpson30 I guess it's all a matter of opinion. I remember both, Derek New's, 'Yorkshre Television March', as well as Chris Gunning's, 'Yorkshire Theme', and they both fitted the station's identity at the time. The former one being a very memorable piece, reminiscent of the theme to 633 Squadron. Not surprising, as it was arranged by Ron Goodwin. Chris Gunning's tune fitted for the times, too. Early 80's, when a lot of different things were happening with TV. It had a new feel to it.

The YTV chevron and its iconic theme seems to symbolise how rightly proud they were of the quality of their programming. How different to today.

I never watched Calendar - more of a Look North man - but I knew this. I miss those YTV Ys at the beginning as well.

The Skeggie mascot just makes me think of the Viz version of the famous poster.

There's a 5 minute version of that version of the theme, which was used every morning at startup in the 80's

@simpson30 there was a full 5 minute version that was used as the start up theme on a morning

I did have it on tape somewhere, I was one of those kids who'd sit there with a small tape recorder and mic recording the sound off the telly....
