  • Im mixed but I have type 4a hair and my hair smells sweet but it feels dry like maybe I should be using another product also

  • Is there anywhere that shows a list of ingredients? I'm kinda iffy about this. For that price I can buy two large jugs of lavender shampoo.

  • what kind of lavender shampoo do you use, like where do you get it? I love lavender and thats a reasonable price. As for an ingredients list if you email them they'll give you one but I know some of them aren't all natural and for me its too pricey not to be.

  • @lasoreal EveryDay Shea Moisturizing Shampoo, Lavender

10 bucks at whole foods but a large amount to last for months = D

  • Wet and Shine gel

  • When I was permed I spent $60-80 trying to make my hair straight. Y not spend 40 on a jar of pudding that will give you curls. I have used many products and haven't gotten the great results as the curly pudding. I'm type 4 hair.

  • Which product line is better? Miss Jessie's or the KCC (Kinky Coconut Clustard). I was thinking about trying Miss Jessie Buttercreme alone without buying the whole line. Does the cream mixes well with other products? Thanks in advance.

  • Noooo, it is not worth the price the curly pudding nor the buttercreme. Both of those products can be duped especially the curly pudding. The buttercreme seems to be a souped up oil moisterizer. Now in fairness I haven't tried the silkener or creme decurl products yet but I can only order when they have a sale. Which is around Christmas time:(

  • I agree. These products, altho pretty gd results are extremely overpriced. A bit of a disservice really to us whn u think about it. The ingredients can easily be duplicated and they're not even all natural for the money you pay.

  • UH, where's the review here?

  • I'm really glad to know that I'm not alone in thinking that this product is a bit too costly. Initially, I liked the thought of using products that contained the ingredient line up but found that, ultimately, it left my hair crunchy. I'm no longer a fan of this line...mostly b/c of the price.

  • Have you try Miss Jessie Buttercreme? Do you recommend it because I was thinking about solely using it for moisturizing my hair instead of using shea butter.

If you have used shea butter in the pass does it gives the same effect in Jessie's buttercream? For some reason, my hair is dry and crunchy at the end of the day I want some reviews before I buy.

  • I have tried the Buttercreme and used to use it quite extensively but found that I did not like the dryness that I experienced after a while. I found that mixing shea butter with natural oils like jojoba, sweet almond, and coconut oils worked better for me. Using this mixture with a nice leave in gave me the desired effect and did not dry my hair after using. Sadly, I would not recommend any of the products on the MJs line. Hope this helps....

  • Girl, thanks you! I just tried Kinky Curly Clustard and had enough of wasting money. This product works just the same as Garneir's Fruitis Wet and Shine gel. No way would I try Miss Jessies or waste anymore money on junk.

  • You're welcome and thanks for the tip on GF's Wet and Shine Gel!

  • @Kimberlene I'm confused. You tried Kinky Curly Curling Custard, OR, the Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding stuff? This vid is relating to Miss Jessie's. Kinky Curly products are natural, while Miss Jessie's uses the mineral oil, etc.

  • @justlovingme Can you tell me how much of each you used with your mix? I would like to start making my own products...

  • I'd be glad to.

    7 oz. of shea butter

    4 oz of cocoa butter

about 3-4 oz of jojoba oil

about 3-4 oz of coconut oil

about 15-18 drops of peppermint oil (or ur fav scent)

I get a bowl of water and put it in the microwave for about 4 minutes and then allow my shea and cocoa butters to set inside the hot water while they are still in their containers to melt. This way they are in liquid form or very, very soft when I prepare the mixture.

  • @justlovingme do the curls stay for long like Miss Jessie's products?

  • I find that this mixture is great for MOISTURE...probably not so much for curl retention. The twist, though, is that when my hair retains moisture, it does, in fact, help my curls to pop. You can also try coconut oil by itself for moisture and alcohol free gels for curl retention. The issue with MJs is that the inclusion of mineral oil (and perhaps other chemicals) ultimately causes dryness and crunchiness.

  • I use an electric mixer to combine. I also sometimes double the quantities and refrigerate the extra amount until I need it.

Keep in mind this mixture is very, very oil rich. A little goes a long way. I keep it in the refrigerator - especially during summer months to keep it solidified, as I only use this mixture once or twice a week. I rub it together in the palm of my hands to emulsify and then rub on the hair after a leave-in has been applied.

  • Part 3

I hope this works for you. If not, just play with the ingredients a little bit and use those that your hair responds well to. I tried to find a video that was helpful to me on YouTube but the channel is no longer available. There are many other videos though that give alternatives. Let me know how it works out for you..

  • I AGREE! it was too expensive for what it didn't do!

  • we bought some of miss jessie's where im living and the shampoo+conditioner+the baby butter cream was 153.54....i was like DAMN! lol....its good but its too small...they need to make it bigger and actually worth my money.

  • I agree. I get the same or even better results by using IC gel.. LOL.. Im serious.

  • I have a question about Miss Jessie's products, do they have chemicals in there. Because of you check out the website it looks like alot of the clients got texturized.

  • In my oppinion, MJ's products are too expensive and they are shock full of toxic ingredients and may be the reason so many naturals have had negative experiences. If you are truely interested in affordable products that are also organic and natural, i use some by a line called Essential Organic Balms and they are AWESOME!! The owner is here on youtube and her name is naturalhaircare. Go look at her vids when you get time to! I also have tried Kinky Curly Curling Custard and it worked alot better

  • Yeah its expensive and the price can scare anyone, but honestly after I tried other products, this is the only one to do right by me. I'm not rich but when I compared the money I wasted on other products that didn't work to that spent on Miss Jessie's, it cost the same. So if it ain't broke don't fix it. But I do agree that this product might not work for everyone. I'm not half asian but it works for me, I guess it depends on the exact hair type you have.

  • this stuff is garbage. leaves my natural 4ab hair dry, untouchable, greasy. perhaps it would work better if i were half japanese like titi and her sister. sometimes folks ignore genetics play a huge part in what our hair looks like. and judging from mj's website, the only ppl who's hair looks decent w/o any chemical alteration are the ppl with naturally curly/mixed hair.

i went ahead and got the sample pack to test for myself and am glad i didn't waste my money on the full sizes.

  • thanks for this info because im 16 and i cant afford to be spending this much on hair products not knowing if it works or not.

  • Wow I thought I was the only person who felt this way, I am sorry. I tried the baby buttercreme last week for the first time. I had the same experience, greasy, gunky, and it did not define my curls. This stuff is expensive, and I am not interested in purchasing it again. But I think everyone's experience may differ. There are a lot of ladies who love these products, and I think that is great. but for me, I'll pass.

  • @lorimneal What about Kabrinam?

  • @iscavengersam isn't Kabrina, also of mixed heritage? ("3 something kind of hair)

  • @Papillonmuscogee I don't think all African Americans have type 4 hair.

  • @iscavengersam when did I say they did?

  • @Papillonmuscogee My mistake (those exact words were not included in your comment). That's what I gathered from the comment based on your question about her heritage and stating she had type three hair.

  • Didn't care too much for the product.. it stiffens my hair. I purchased the sample pack from a natural hair care salon. Didn't care for any of the products quite honestly. Love the scent of the baby buttercreme though....I've been creating my own moisturizer and experimenting with Shikakai Bar for my hair. Much cheaper and better results...not to mention it's more natural than the Miss Jessie products!

  • new channel hun? I was wondering what happen to you! yes its too expensive but it works well for my hair thanks for sharing

  • I didn't care for the culy pudding either. However, I did love the curly meringue and baby butter cream.

  • I have every single one of their products.

(regular size baby butter creme & samples)

And I dont use any of them anymore.

I dont like them that much personally.

BUT the reconstructioner, is the best I would say.

Maybe a sample size would be worth your money.

  • i recently did the big chop transitioning to chemical free hair i am use to my hair being long but now it is short i need a reaLLY GOOD MOISTURIZER/HAIRDRESS CREME and did not prepare for the haircare products that i need. i agree on the price being high which makes me skeptical on trying it cuz my hair texture does not act right with everything, i was thinkin about orderin this i want a natural organic butter creme do u have any suggestions? have u tried qemit biologist products?

  • I have some videos on products and tutorials for short natural hair. Check them out and see if they help you out. I did my Big Chop In Mach of this year and have been trying new products ever since. Maybe something I tried will help you.

  • I agree it is a bit expensive. I am fortunate that my sis in-law bought me some for my birthday last week.

  • Retail Price:

    16oz $38.00 + SHIPPING

    8oz $22.00 + SHIPPING

    2oz $7.00 + SHIPPING

  • I actually like curly pudding (used it for years)- you may be using to much (hence your curls being heavy)- the price point was okay for me- since the results were consistant. I just tried a new product Hair Rules- which is now my all time favorite! Not heavy, leaves my hair shiny, soft and the curls are defined. Try it and tell me what you think.

  • it's too heavy. i want bouncy light curls not weighed down greasy ones!

  • I agree. It is not worth the price; unless you get it on ebay!! lol

  • It does cost sooo much!! And I've heard that the curling custard works so much better (or rather I've used the KCCC and I haven't used the curly pudding that I still have in the bathroom). I'm now afraid it might give me a rash (I bought the sented one) b/c other ppl have said that they have gotten rashes!

  • $20. That's all? I spent $43 an 8oz bottle of Curly Buttercreme (I bought it online of course ...) and although I like that product, it's a bit greasy for my taste (but used sparingly/wisely, I like it ...)

I liked the curly pudding, but it can easily leave white residue in my hair. Please do a review of what you think of the product itself and how it works with your hair if you get a chance :)

  • thank you for the product review and i agree i don't think its worth the price especially for me if you have to use alot at one time.
