@sk8142 Hey I saw your comment and was wondering, since I'll be getting my first car fairly soon (less than 2 years - lol), and I'm going to automotive school after high school for aftermarket, engines in general, which would you recommend? A 240SX or 300ZX, as far as insurance, maintenance, potential. Obviously it would be easier to get more power out of a 6 cylinder as opposed to 4, but in general. Thx for reading my little rant, hope you answer. xD
I used to own one of the early 89's, production 9/88, and for having 160,000 miles on it pulled harder than most modern cars I've been in and it was auto! Love those things, sold mine for a mk3 supra tho :)
Nope not pinging its actually the shitty 1st gen B&M SS. The timing maps were pretty conservative becuase this was during the middle of summer (100+ degree) and was on 92 octace fuel.
anyways nice car dude forreal. i have a single cam, i'd LIKE to do that, but not with 220k miles on it. granted there all granny miles, but damn i can barely trust my car flooring it now, muchless with a turbo.
True but i don't have much of any money anymore, because i just sold the single cam 240 for a twin cam one with 130k miles. I dont really plan on a turbo any time too soon, mostly just daily driving and random drifting until i get out of school.
The difference is more than you would think. Mostly the acceleration and torque, seeing how the top-end is the same because of the govenor. Drifting is alot easier, even still being open diff. I would DEFINITELY reccomend twin cam, unless your going turbo, i heard it was better to turbo a single cam than a twin.
They say because the single cam has lower compression it causes for more reliability for a turbo. Not really sure exactly. I hear mixed reviews. But n/a, then definitely twin cam.
I think they changed the compression in the motors from 89 to 90 then they stayed the same all the way through. i forgot where i read this. and lower compression motors are usually more friendly with boosting.
thats awesome. I have a 91 240, but it has the front end of a 89- 90 , and the motor has those junk yard numbers on it saying its an '89 engine. I wonder if there are some numbers on the engine that says exactly what the engine specs are..
well u said its a soch? i dout its a early 89 with the higher compression. 3/89 or newer soch have 8.6;1 compression. 140hp an like 150somthing tq . just look up Ka24E u can find all the spec u need.
Alright thats cool. Ima try to find some sort of casting number or vin on the engine and look it up one day, i wouldn't mind the lower compression cuz im working on a turbo for it now so we'll see!
it holds at least 15.0:1 N/A and is begging for more!!!!!!...........block is damn strong head studs will pull out before blown block(or crap tune will blow)
Sweet car man. I take it thats not stock internals? Actually what set up are you running & how much boost? cuz thats quick as hell especially for the sohc.
Hey thanks. The motor is fully built with turbo 240 con. rods, arias 8.8:1 pistons, Clevite 77's bearings ARP head and main studs, balanced internals, colt cam turbo cam regring and a few other small things. I'm running a t3 super 60 turbo from a thunderbird @ 15 psi and it's holding up pretty good so far.
All that and I can still hear the timing chain noise. I had the same 240sx and the same color. The most fun to drive car, but that noise always bothered me. btw nice video.
....but will it blend

ahh I sold the car about 3 years ago. It was a fun car but I upgraded to a TT 300zx. I still want to build another KA-T tho.

i dunno about the GT turbo tho... pistons and rods are gonna be a help but the block itself? is the block stable enuff to hold all that boost?
ddavid993 3 years ago
