  • Hey I have been tracking this for a while and wondering how things are going with it? I see that you wrote you have got alot to study... I know the feeling -_- What kind of music were you thinking for this game? I could draft you up some themes if your interested? Only a suggestion, other then that this is looking awesome, hope you get around to completing it!

    Not much progress. When I've had time, I've worked on another mini-project(Mario First Person). When it's done, I'll add some damage system in the game and release test versions... We'll see, I'll try to get all these done before FDF.

  • Hey dude! I dont know if you remember, but i was one of the first followers of this game (back in the day when i was known as xXKameroXx). I never forgot about it, and im loving your progress :D Can't wait for a test version dude, and my former proposal still stands. Just tell me if you need any help :)

    Cool, thanks! I might need your help, but I haven't really got any time to work on games in near future, and I've been working on another mini project for now, but it's slowly progressing...

    I will return to the Sniper game sometime, but I got lots of studying to do so I can't squeeze time to game making at all.

  • you could maybe try adding bullet deviation (ex: when you shot the glass the bullet should changed trajectory by a little)

    Very cool idea, I've though of this before also. I'll definently do bullet slowdown and random deviation angle according to material and current bullet speed.

    It's going to take a while. I'm currently working on another mini project. Not that I've had that spare time aside from school anyways. It will take few weeks, then I'll do some new stuff for this and probably release a test version next time also.

    I try to get these done before I head to FDF for a year.

    If you subsribe, you don't have to keep checking.

    There's nothing to do in the game. Also 80% of the key presses wil cause crash.

    Well, there's not really anything to do in the game, and it's full of developer stuff(aka press wrong button -> crash).

    I'll probably do that in about the next video release...

    I've no idea... Test version should be available in this year atleast, we'll see if it runs well enough on player's computers for this project to be continued.

    Not that soon actually... I'm working on a other miniproject for now. The last month I've been making first person mario game(inspired by freddiew).

    It will take couple more weeks till I release it. Then I'll continue with the Sniper project. I'll make particles and hitboxes next. Then I'll probably release test version and one sniper rifle related animation...

    These are free sounds from freesound . org by Snoman, added in 2005 November.

    I actually used these in my developement BEFORE Minecraft even existed, so if anything they would have "copied me".

    These royalty free sounds are placeholders though so it doesn't matter.

  • This looks really promising, you should look for some investors or something. I have a question though what will the gameplay be like? Will it be with a storyline with targets to kill or something? *subbed*

    It should become a full game with storyline, characters and plot twists. Probably SWAT missions because of the engine limitations to run large natural environment. So bank robberies, hostage situations etc.

    I have to release something before opening any donations, this game is surprisingly slow and needs super-system to run it. Asking donations before any test versions would be scamming.

    I'm not so sure yet, it depends how well the engine runs on players' computers. It's very slow already so I cut out the terrains.

    I was planning to do like 3km range terrains, but the game would run like 5fps on the best machine ever built by man.

    I can do long range shooting ranges though, but terrain with trees and foliage is whole different thing. Probably main game will be SWAT sniping.

  • add some knife and also my favorite thing: stealth kill >:) also jumping from a height and dropping down on an enemy while holding a knife and holding LMB will also result in a kill

    I don't think I need to include knife kills, which aren't really occuring that much in real life situations. It's almost impossible to sneak up on someone to knife range without any background noise(engine room etc.).

    Spec Ops knife is merely used for cutting things.

    Silenced weapons although will be included.

  • When you shoot you could make the screen blur slightly or around the edges to simulate the slight disorientation of firing a rifle. Really cool though!

    There will be proper tutorial to teach how to use sniper effectively, which can teach everyone paying attention quite easily to master the scope trimming. Precending knowledge shouldn't be requirement.

    After the scope is set properly, it's just about the same like in other games, point and click :)

    It may look small when if you are not viewing the video fullscreen. That scope distance itself from eye doesn't set any limits, because the visible area would be the same anyway.

    One of the key reasons I make this realistic is to capture the feeling of being the sniper, using _the weapon_ far far away from the target, rather than just shooting with binoculars.

    Very few games manange to capture this feeling of holding the real weapon.

    It's .338, but settings aren't correct yet.

    Well, Kestrel is just a wind meter manufacturer, so I based this on the real deal.

    I'm aware that the same wind meter happens to be in ARMA2 mod. I do own ARMA2, but I have never time to play it(nor any other games). I have none of the expansion packs, I'm not so sure is there lots of players anymore on vanilla(it became free a while ago, so I guess there should be)

  • No offense but at 1000 yards or 1000m the bullet travel to target is about 1.4 secs. The returned sound takes 2.5 seconds. So a total of 3.9 seconds for it all to happen.....

    Actually you are definently right, and I appreate the correction. I totally rushed with the video, I did whole ballistic system figuring in 1 day(till 1am), so I didn't even notice that added wind force cancelled air resistance, which leaded to various misreadings.

    After combining the force vectors, fiddling with the coeffiencents to match 870->500m/s slow down, guess what. 1,396s for 1000m bullet travel. Quite close estimation I'd say :D

  • I dont remember off hand but the tick marks on the scope lines could be cool too. Im planning on gunsmith school so i study a lot but forget some of it sometimes

    Also the error with the sound, it must be caused by the recording drops the FPS to 30(should be 60). In the actual game there is ~3 second sound delay for 1000m

    Tick marks would be just matter of changing the crosshair texture, which is doable, but doesn't require anything new in mechanics so I'll leave it to later. Even the Mil dots aren't correct for that reason.

    Sounds are just place holders(will be changed), and there are no effects(echoes etc.) yet.

    this is going to be the best sniping simulation ever.

    but i got a suggestion:

    maybe you can make the Noscoping Red Orchestra 2-style, if you know what i mean.

    the gun shoots 100% accurate through the barrel, but when you move around, the barrel itself aims at somewhere else at the screen, sorry, its hard to explain when youre not english.

    at the rest:

    insane work, cant wait for more!

    I know what you mean, but for realism sake I'm not doing it like that. The bullet will always leave from the barrel and to the direction of the barrel. It's crazy hard anyways to shoot on hip, because we're not dealing with unrealistic CQC-situations with sniper rifles, like in most multiplayer games.

    because this i actually like a real person aims from hip.

    Well the gun is not aiming straight when it's on hip, as you can see. It's tilted to various directions.

    In most games, the bullet lands center, because it doesn't leave from the barrel, but it leaves from the camera.

    If I shoot that gun from hip, it does not land center, it depends of the distance where it lands. I'd say it's impossible to estimate hip fire. It can land almost everywhere in the screen, but also out of the screen if target is far.

    I will just release it for free in Youtube. About developing, I'm just adding new features until it's ready, and then start to build the game itself.

    And what are you writing this in? I had really hard time learning directx with c++. Now I'm making some progress in 3D XNA, but it's still extremly hard for me.

    Yes. That project has been already started. Maybe even earlier than 3-5 weeks, it's coming together pretty fast.

    Items? In the Mario game? Well the original doesn't have lots of them, so there might be them all as far as I'm conserned.

    Go ahead and suggest any custom stuff, I'll look into it. For now, please regard this in PM, as it's about different project.
