used to listen to basement jaxx all the time as a kid brings back memories now checking out the songs i havent heard for years i cant believe they dont have millions of views basement jaxx are amazing
Great song, great Siouxsie, shame the video is a cheap rip off from a scene from "Cremaster 1" from Matthew Barney. The scene where the model holds the helicopters is an example of playing copycat. How often popvideos steal from modern video art is almost uncountable. Marilyn Manson does those tricks as well. "The Dope Show"" stole a lot from Rebecca Horn's work.
Damn.I've known this song for a while from Siouxsie's live show, but that's the first time I've heard the original. It's great. So much more exciting than the lazy pop-funk chart drivel that Basement Jaxx are renowned for. I agree, if the video had featured Siouxsie instead of some random (I assume) model, it would have been a landmark piece of work. The style, the poses, the uniform... perfect for her. Still, very cool. Thanks for posting.
greatest videos of all time....hmmm......nope...............it would've been a really good one had the girl been Siouxsie.....but this is just CGI crap...and not even slightlyimaginative!
The Matthew Barney "influence" is blatant. Almost to the point of ripping him off. Great video for the song though. It would've been great if the girl was Siouxsie.
Probably one of the greatest music videos of all time. The rhythm of the edits and the movements in frame are all perfectly matched to the rhythm of the song. Aesthetically, it's like an idealized military-industrial cartoon - beautiful and sinister at the same time. Just breathtaking.
@betweenlakes LIke Busby Berkeley meets Leni Riefenstahl. One of the most intriguingly sinister videos from Basement Jaxx, who make some pretty mind-melting videos. I can't help but think that future video archaeologists will hold this up as an example of the age of war porn. Great track as well - I haven't heard this for time. Siouxsie Sioux should be held up as a living national treasure.
This is an excellent song! And wow is it uhm indirectly making fun of our "rational" zeal for warfare and empire building and taking resources and how sustainable and tenable that is. The not so funny thing is how music like this which should be able to cross the pond from Britain with ease (As it is a good song) just does not happen. In AmeriKKKa, yes even in the Obama age (with Bush's same Pentagon head), the same old story continues, "The more things Change, the more they stay the same."""
Yeah sure. Whatever. I was actually replying to something somebody had said about tanks doing some kind of synchronised performance. I don't like the machines personnally and have seen what they can do to a child who gets in their way. Perhaps if I had actually posted the coment as a proper reply you would have seen the original message and my post would have made sense.
Know I'm not a very liberal person, but I am quite shallow in a lot of ways.
And yes I do listen to the lyrics and have an idea of the message the song is trying to convey. You need to chill out a bit more with your "I've got everybody worked out" pop psychology. Thats the sort of thing people do in 10th grade!!!!!
i know ur a liberal, but you need to stop trying to act deep because you come off as a really shallow bleeding heart. you know, the kind liberal we were in grade 10.
if you were thinking outside the liberal bubble by listening to the lyrics, you'd realize that tanks are **symbolic** of the protagonist who has it all. the usage of tanks in the video is DELIBERATE.
by saying "though" at the end, you imply that the creator of this video didn't consider that. f'n liberals.

Someone should write an essay on this matter.

Was this after Mantaray? It sounds like the late Siouxsie, awesome! You can recognize the voice right away. I wish she was in the video though.

I agree, though I would add some sex to this - something along the lines of Muse's Time is running out, to have both Thanatos and Eros in it.
