Why the hell do they keep coming out with new cars with new names? Just keep the old names that everyone knows about... and keep building new models of those names... not come out with a new named model every single year...
Some people still don't get it so I'll say it again: this car is an Opel Astra with american changed body work and steering wheel.
The engine is also an Opel Ecotec, one of the new "downsizing" turbo engines that are hip today. VW also has one new 1.4 TSI 125hp for the Golf, Seat Leon...
The point is that this video is selling this as a completely new car they did themselves. The reality is that it is a little re-done Astra with the same engines we have in Europe for some time - that Opel made.
It is appalling that he can stand there and spew bull like that. Just because there is no customer care agency, and you can lie in ads as much as you like. Labeling in US is the same, a joke, and everybody knows it.
Well, if you remember, they sold Saturn Astra before, total copy.
The problem is not telling the truth but lies, like they are now in fifth gear to success, full on or what not, when in fact they did a quicky by copying another foreign engineered car and saying they did it all.
It would be like SsangYong doing that copy of S-class Merc and saying they did it all :) C'mon XD
lol I see where you're going with this. The Astra is a great car- GM would be a fool to *not* bring a version of it to the US. They left it mostly unchanged from the Astra mechanically because it's already a great car. The General public won't know what an Astra is, so there's no problem. It's not a copy either- it's platform sharing. GM developed the new global platform (called Delta II). it was built for multiple brands... Opel, Vauxhall, Chevy and even Buick. The Astra was just made first :)
The issue is today's middle and upper management that is all but competent for normal bussiness. They think that any crap for public works, and have no remorse (of course) to blatantly lie. And that skews facts, especially if you repeat it often.
Just like gaming industry today trying to peddle consoles and their type of gaming as the only one ever existed, where in fact PC went through all today's console problems and polemics years ago, and solved them!
but not in everyplace is the same engine and that things i live in chile and the motor in here is 1.8 140 hp and 150nm, 6 speed automatic with tiptronic 17" wheels and much better things of that car in this show room...i wouldn't mind if they put a opel 1.4 turbo in this car it would be the same car..is a good one in price quality
Well, they will make it an option if they didn't already. Those little downsized turbo engines are not new at all. So i guess they thought it is not needed, in terms of people wanting it, for Chile.
Or maybe it is a more sinister thing, like getting rid of older engines in some markets, which wouldn't be the first time.
What the guy said about pushing the wheels to the coners of the vehicle is a copy of Chrysler's signature "Cab-Forward" design. What this means, is that it gives the car more interior volume. Chrysler's cars used to be cream of the crop until they migrated away from cab foward. Now others are copying it. Like: Honda with the civic which is VERY roomy inside. And Nissan with the Versa which is also VERY roomy on the inside.
Why did they wait so long to bring it to the US? Desperation? Backward logic? You sell crappy cars in the US, sell good ones across the world? Way to go GM! Do the wrong thing until the last minute...like killing the EV1, only to scramble to develop the Volt only when you're about to go under! I think you better fire EVERY CEO and stop blaming the unions.
i test drive it before i bougt my ivtec. anyway i'm looking at honda and what the hell i get here?

But why would anyone care, the Astra isn't sold here in America, so technically it *is* brand new... I think you're over-stressing :)

If American builders had the capacity to produce 40MPG, why did they wait until gas got up to $4 a gallon??

I don't everything is too triangular on the inside and the out side just doesn't look right. It gets great MPG though.
