  • why? Because for those of us who live on our bikes, there's nothing macho about pulling a clutch in commuter traffic. This is like the best of everything I ever wanted with Honda quality thrown in as a bonus. People have bikes as a circus ride they use once a month won't get it. Riders with lots of miles love it.

  • yeah, stroke sucks... (at least, for me). And motorbikes like streefighter type should had this atomatic transmission. I mean those who had motors of 300cc below..

I think it's more safe when you can obtain a more quick response from the machine.

    Sorry; bad english... ='[

  • Ha! In 5 years most new bikes will be electric!

  • It is about time someone finally created a common sense bike, there is no reason to shift manually when technology allows for the automatic shifting of the bike. This bike is the future of casual riding and just as in the automobile in five years most new bikes will be automatic. And it will be fun to see all the skilled riders who can shift with their toe crying all the way to the end.

  • Automatic Bike??

    NO! Thank you

  • ...why?

  • ... and yes I do use most of the the revs on the bike low down (where appropriate) then sit on the motorway in 6th gear and don't bother changing.

@euhelde - How does this would handle at very low speeds such as filtering.

  • I really admire and hate this invention. I always thought they should make a (semi) auto bike while I was younger.

Any 16yr/45yr old can jump on an auto scooter and be doing 40mph in a few seconds. Now swap that for a bike with auto gearbox that can be doing 140 in a few seconds. The rider needs the same skill set for both to make them move, just more money for the second option.

As a big bike rider my thought is if you haven't got the skills to operate the bike, perhaps you shouldn't ride

  • I love this bike! Real sport touring, and this system is amazing for handling traffic and for when one's just too tired on long hauls etc from handling the clutch etc. All this while maintaining the standard operation mode. Effin brilliant!

  • I think it's spectacular to be able to have that with the flick of a button. I would use it lots of times. Is that on the actual bike that has come out?

  • Automatic transmission on a motorcycle? No way! I'm a real MAN. I don't even use auto on cars. Wouldn't even think of it! This stuff is for gays and little girlies. Not like myself. I'm a MAN! I've got awesome skills but I'm awesome i general. Know why? Cos I use manual transmission. I'm the Bear Grills of motorcycling and I don't need no panzy duel clutch. Cos I'm a MAN!!!!!

  • imo, this is all unnessesary bullsh*t..........automatic transmission on a bike. i wouldn´t even drive a car with AT.

  • Cool. Now the handicapped can outrun the cops on the highway too. No legs? No problem! One arm? No problem!

  • fu*k where is the really VFR?

    This is not a VFR

  • This is the future.

  • paddle shifting in a bike! wow! didnt know its possible xD

  • That Dual Clutch Tranny is awesome! Can't wait for riding that bike with it!

  • where is the blackbird replacemant ??? i love my cbr1100xx but is old and this v4 loks good but suzuki hayabusa and zx14 are still in front off us honda riders. we need the old blackbird with new look and 200hp at lest not a chep v4 engine and automatic transmition. HONDA do you realy whant as to buy hayabusa or zx14 because you are incapable to build for us something that beats thouse two??????

  • i agree, also am i not the only person who thinks that if you cant do a manual tranny and there is not a physicall limitation on you ie missing leg then you shouldnt be on a bike probly.

  • I am a sport rider, but you have to remember sometimes people will be commuting or dealing with traffic on their bike when they AREN'T riding it through canyons or in a place that would be beneficial to having a true manual tranny. This extra ability basically makes the bike easier to operate and offers a more relaxing commute.

  • um yeah comeone dude the first gear on most bikes is good for 50 mph or better, and its not like the clutches are hard to use. With your mentality i bet you dont even ride in the rain.

  • haha you can assume whatever the hell you want. I just commuted in the rain to college on my 600RR with BT-003's, which, if you don't know, are hardly qualified for rain. I love all forms of riding, mostly sport and track, but I'm not afraid to admit there are other types of people out there who approach riding differently than me. Why is there a whole market dedicated to clutchless riding? (scooters). Yea, I won't say it's at all the same as riding a real bike, but their purpose is commuting.

  • Yeah i gues im just disapointed that this thing is gonna be a tourer and not a new vf1100 or something better is all. I gues honda just doesnt want a v4 to dominate their lineup ever agian. :( its sad.

  • I'm with ya. I'd love for there be a sporty VFR, who knows.

  • Taking 1st gear to 50mph is only for racing. No one actually revs 1st gear so far while riding normally. Only if you're trying to set a 0-60mph time or are trying to prove something to someone or stuff like that. In normal (cruise speed - not racing) riding, you change 1st gear at 30mph or less (and that's on powerful 100hp+ bikes, because, in many bikes that have around 50hp for example, you change 1st gear at around 12mph. In a supersport 1000cc, you cruise at 43mph in 3rd or 4th gear ;).

  • what use are all those rpms and hp if you dont use them you might as well buy a slow heavy wideglide or something dude.

  • 1 I'm not saying high revs shouldn't be used sometimes. I often use them when I catch a good, safe (with good visibility, good asphalt conditions, etc), open road and I want to feel the acceleration or in a track. But, the reason to use all the revs (or more than needed) in each gear in these situations is you want to, exceptionally, obtain maximum performance regardless of fuel and engine life and because safety is not at significant risk.

  • 2 Always using maximum revs or close to maximum, is not good, because not only you spend more than double the fuel, but you put too much strain on the engine and other parts drastically reducing engine life. And can also be dangerous given the excess power. Reving the engine without need will also take the smoothness out of your ride, and risk sliding the rear wheel while exiting a turn because of excess hp.

  • 3 Even in MotoGP there are certain turns where a higher gear is chosen so you can accelerate smoothly out of a corner without destabilizing the bike and risk a low or a highside. The ideal gear changes (that save more fuel, that save the life of the bike and the engine) are the ones done by the automatic transmission you see in this video. That's the perfect rear ratios for saving engine life and obtain the best fuel mileage.

  • 4 In certain particular situations for example: In unsafe roads (most of them) or in a situation with lots of traffic where you're not going much faster than the traffic itself, it doesn't make sense to push the revs.

But even when you're cruising on a safe road, the best for fuel and engine saving is to be in a given rpm range, which is often somewhere between 2000 and 3000 (not always of course, but most of the time)

  • 5 These bikes are supposed to be ridden like normal bikes (the engines are very similar after all). Don't forget that race bike's engines only last 1 or 2 races usually. These bikes have that extra power for some situations only (and always at their cost) for example, I wouldn't give up my bike's engine because even when I'm doing slow revs,

  • 6. I can easily overtake practically anything on the road even without pushing the revs too much, and that's a good thing already (it's even a safety factor)

The revs are always there in case you need them, They're not going anywhere. ;)

  • dude wait and see the vfr edition of the engine har 170 hp they'll probsbly use the same engine in other models but with other cams fi programming and stuff so i think tis new engine is probablycapable of easy 200+hp

  • double embrayage ... ca doit envoyer du paté : o
