  • Was still on sugar mountain (19) when i first heard this back in the day (71). Brings back sweet happy memories. Thanks.

  • @pyrophore You are most welcome. I left Sugar Mountain in October of 78. Sweet happy memories are a precious thing. The more over 50 I am, the more I appreciate them. Especially the ones I can still actually remember. So much of it is archived somewhere in the deep recesses of mind....anymore.

  • Can you post Bless The Weather - Emperors Of Wyoming -think it's John Martyn original song, tribute to J.M.Thanks!

  • @MilanVasiljevicBGD Hi, I wish I could, but I don't have this song speak of. I hope you enjoyed Neil's song though.

  • This is one of those rare songs that are truly timeless. Thanks for ^loading this!

  • @billyjoeboomboom You are welcome. The world deserves to find the original song when searching for E mperor of W yoming.

  • post buffalo springfield. a great start for our man from toronto! as a soloist. uplifting!

  • @mayanlongcount1 He was in his early 20's when he wrote and recorded this LP. If forced to choose, this would be my favorite of his solo LP's.

  • Nice! Im Ken from Colorado, but let me say this I love Indians, I love Cowboys, I love Neil Young and I love Wyoming!

  • @edelenwolf69 They are both pretty impressive. So is Colorado. Thank you.

  • @edelenwolf69 I figure that the Indians were there in Wyoming before the cowboys, so I give them first place in the history part of the thread.

  • @edelenwolf69 That makes you a-okay in my book.

  • Really unusual arrangement of guitars and strings....like nothing else he ever did or that I have ever heard...A beautiful song. Does anyone know if he ever plays this live?

  • @lennyscumwage I don't know. He didn't play this when I saw him. It is truly unique and beautiful. He was so young when he wrote and recorded this. I'm just blown away by the LP.

  • I'm from Wyoming, you folk can come out here in the summer, but you won't last one winter!!!! Welcome to Wyoming now go home!!!

  • @hyded100 You don't want people to visit Wyoming?

  • his first solo song.

  • @evilthesaurus yeah it is! and a damn good underrated one at that

  • @TomThumbsBlues1965 A lot of people have never heard this LP, much less this song. I hope youtube will change that. Thank you for your comment.

  • @TomThumbsBlues1965 I must admit a fondness for this song. People ask me where my email address comes from, all intrigued. I tell them, I can't take credit. I just it the feminine version of this song title. Now if they ask, I give them this link.

  • What a bold thing to do, open up your very 1st side of your very 1st solo album with an instrumental, not even guaranteed it's going to go somewhere. Back in the day when you didn't have worldwide media coverage, no youtube, internet etc etc AAAND wrote and played your OWN songs, true musicianship.

  • @cudaj2 Thank you for your comment. Think about how young Neil was when he wrote this. He was truly a visionary. And just like his songs stand alone with no lyrics, his lyrics stand alone and read as very good, eartht poetry.

  • @EmpressOfWyoming58 You're very welcome, You're one of the few people that I've heard besides myself call him a visionary, which indeed he is. To always use basic chords for the most part and hit the mark every time with his words is something ver few have ever done consistently as he has. A friend of mine once called his songs "Fall" music ( as in the 4 seasons of the year ) and that to me is a great description because funny enough, this is always the time of year I listen to him the most.

  • @cudaj2 You got that right! And it's such a cool mix of country and classical. I wonder if there are words somewhere. Neil is so prolific and excellent it's sick!

  • @peterzang When I saw him live on his Greendale tour he jumped around that stage like a kid. He has amazing energy and stamina and he loves his wife, kids, hound dog and his bandmates, friends and the fans. That was obvious at his show. But he hates Clear Channel and razzed on them even though they sponsored his tour. He's gutsy.

  • @FuckngBastard And you wish you could be so good!

  • I love this song and have loved it since it came out. It helped me when I learned to drive, I would put it on and just go with the flow.

  • @kbidus Thank you for your comment. It is a very soothing song. That's a cool memory.

  • Just as "Whiskey Boot Hill," this song seems to be placed in a place on the album to set the stage for the whole side.

At the same time, I don't think Neil is much for where a song is placed on an album.

    Peace.

    Rock

  • @rockinroller7 Thank you for your comment, Rock. I never thought much about the order of his songs. I know that on After the Gold Rush, the album, each album side ends with a short song. "Till the Morning Comes" — 1:17 side one & "Cripple Creek Ferry" — 1:34 side two. " Then there was Greendale. Very eccentric. We saw him in concert for that LP.

  • @EmpressOfWyoming58

    Yeah, intersting things to ponder.

with regards this album, I've always felt it to be comfortable with ending one side with one of them;Whiskey Boot Hill," or Emporer Of Wyoming," and begins the other side with the other. Just don't know if it was planned that way, but as I laready wrote, it feels 'comfortable."

And I'm with you on "After The Gold Rush." It DOES seem to be 'planned that way.

Neil is a man of mystery, beyond all else he gives us.

    Peace.

    Rock

  • @rockinroller7 Yeah a great intro to me. But then if I didn't know the music I might be confused as to what Neil was all about.

  • @11xzxzxz

Same here. But as you can see, the downloader, EmpressOfWyoming, has already made the point I was thinking of regarding "After The Gold Rush."

    Peace.

    Rock

  • @rockinroller7 Sure. And now I am more convinced than ever that you are the one to open and close that book on Neil with your power of observation. Not to be published in Rolling Stone Mag. Alright I'm selfish as I need you to get famous so I can get more thumbs up on my comments when I say "I knew the man when.." Hey that reminds me of Nick Lowe song .. I was thinking you would like Nick more than you do or maybe you do. I don't know you are a man of mystery.

  • @11xzxzxz

    cracking me upLOL!!!.

But yeah, Nick Lowe is great anytime.

(See Loggins and Messina-"Didn't I know You When.")

    Peace.

    Ross

  • @rockinroller7 I didn't know Lowe and Messina were a team? I just know we are a good tag team and thumbs up to you the rest of your life..

  • @11xzxzxz

    Cut it outLOl!

Then again, it might be an interesting combo????

    Peace.

    Rock

  • @rockinroller7 Cut it out like as in Marie Proust "she was a winner who became a doggies dinner"? Sorry that's a nasty combo.

  • Great song, have liked it for years, it is the first song on his first solo

    album from 1969.

  • @JSTONE9352 There's just a bit of magic and mellow in it. Thank you for commenting.

  • Would love to see more comments. <3

  • Hi cutie face! You sure did a great job on this video! I am proud of you. We are so lucky to have been able to see him perform live together.

  • @Killdozer1973 Andy, I am so glad you enjoyed the video. And yes, it was wonderful to see my favorite singer, songwriter in concert, with you.

  • Hi Empress ~ Love this song.

** How did you upload it? (You complained a few months ago on another thread, that YT wouldn't let you, at that time.)

I tried to upload "The Old Laughing Lady" last night, but it was blocked worldwide.

I've tried eliminating the "tagging" on the MP3 before, but there must be deeper tagging that allows their system to spot it as a WMG product.

** Hey - let's call Neil - maybe he will give us permission!!

  • @LDixon007 This was blocked at first, then I discovered a couple of weeks later that people had been viewing my video. So maybe they have aprove of it first? I wonder if Neil watches these videos. That would be pretty cool. Good luck and I'll go check to see if your video is viewable.

  • @LDixon007 RE- Old Laughing Lady--my favorite track from this album. Maybe that particular cut is under stricter copyright sanctions--who knows. Thks for "Wyoming" -love this instrumental.

  • @TheClam88 You're welcome. There were only covers and none of them done with pedal steel, on youtube. I figured someone needed to upload it and who better then moi, the Empress of Wyoming? I love the whole lp. It's so profound and laid back. Mellow, even. He was a visionary even at that tender your age.

  • EmpressOfWyoming58.... this is wonderful ...very soothing to me... yes a wonderful job of blending music and very appealing photos... thanks so much

  • @53Caliber Glad you have enjoyed this and found it soothing. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.

  • When I heard the cut off this album years ago it stunned me...never been a Western style music lover but when I heard this I had a sure fire bet I liked this and being from Texas it fit well.

  • @trollerguy Yes, Neil and CS&N, James Taylor, The Eagles and all the country rockers did a good job of blending country and rock to the point that they won over many who otherwise didn't like straight country and western music. Where in Texas? I have lived in East/Gulf Coast Texas and West Texas as well. Thank you for your comment. I really love the western culture. I have lived many places, including Hawaii. I appreciate all of the differences in those places..

  • @EmpressOfWyoming58 Oh the Corpus Christi area. Looks like you lived around my area too. But I mostly listen to Reggae music.

  • A buddy of mine back in the early-1970s recorded this song to a 60-minute cassette tape (both sides). Every time we climbed into his truck, it was an endless stream of "Emperor of Wyoming" wherever we went. I got REALLY sick of that song, but looking back on it now, those were some of the best days of my life. Thanks for posting this song and nudging up some fond memories.

  • @StudebakerHawk57 You are very welcome. Thank you so much for your comment and especially the memory. Your friend had good taste. I am guessing he wanted a musical score to drive his truck to. Otherwise he'd have recorded the entire LP. I love to hear of the memories that songs bring to the surface.

  • wonderful!

  • most definitely...

  • Totally timeless..It is a very good thing to be the first one to bring a great classic to us...I love doing that...makes it very special..Thank you so much for doing so...seems like just yesterday hearing it...that is what makes it a classic..Congratulations on an amazing production...now, I am wondering what your next project is...;-) keep em coming...

  • OMG..it is So great to hear this again..You did an outstanding job interpreting this one..great photos of Neil and a great feel for your beautiful state of Wyoming...makes me want to visit there..I appreciate your time bringing this gem to the circle...such a small world when it comes to great connection of our hearts through a great classic like this..Awesome audio/visual..

  • @sherrylynn70 Thank you for bringing this to my attention, Sherrylyn. I was so bummed when my first video attempt wasn't viewable. I wonder why it took so long. I was sad that no one had posted this song on youtube, so I took upon myself to post it. People are always asking me about my moniker: Empress Of Wyoming. Now I can just e-mail them the link. This whole LP is incredible. It was very visionary for 1968. The sound is timeless.
