  • The guy that fell over is a real man. Just jumps straight back up!

  • thease guys are fucking dumb flint dosent spark those little fucking starters like those are made of magnesium i habe a old style flint and steel striker the steel triker goes around your knuckels and the flint makes the sparks get your facts strait people

  • @jackattack1022 Thanks for your comment... although I dont really know who you are "jack"attacking here?... The item we used (call it a flint or whatever you like) is a strip of flint with a magnesium bar on it. Process being that you scrape some Mg off, then strike the flint to ignite the Mg which then ignites hotter than the flint-spark, catching alight the tinder.

PS before you start telling ppl to get their facts straight. Learn to spell.

PPS its just a youtube clip mate...

  • @orbdrv Okay, true this isn't flint. It is a ferrocerium rod and magnesium. I use Flint and Steel and just to point out, the steel doesn't have to go around the knuckles as that depends on the design of the striker. Oh and does flint spark or not? You seem undecided but no, it doesn't. Not even with a steel striker as the edge of the flint peels tiny pieces off of the steel and the friction ignites it to cause a spark. I say good attempt to you fellas and keep up the good work.

  • @jackattack1022 How about learning to spell and make use of punctuation, before telling others they are stupid?

  • these guys scare the hell out of smokey the bear

  • Your tool is quite effective, but let me know when you use an actual flint. You are using a firesteel while flint used for creating sparks for a fire, firearms etc, is a piece shaped stone.

  • @AHGlasher what is a piece shaped stone? You're comment is not very effective, let me know when you use an actual keyboard.

  • @orbdrv ah, come on don't be mean with the guy... He is right, what you're using is a firesteel, incorrectly called sometimes "flint". The actual "flint & steel" technique is similar, but using a piece of actual rock (flint) and steel to create sparks maybe 10 times less spectacular than your sparks... So it's a little bit more difficult with the actual flint. Cheers

  • funny.

  • cool

  • im sorry but that was hularious when he fell over

  • ahahahah crack up when you fell over mate.

  • they don't show how it's done

they do it on first try and then they're just puting wood on fire

    LAME

  • @aburrito144 we used a flint and a knife.

the tinder we used was punga tree as noted below.

But remember, this isnt an educational video or anything mate, its just a video me, my friend and my dad on a weekend camping trip.

    Lighten up a bit.

  • @orbdrv i agree with aburrito144. if its not an educational video than why is your video titled "how to start a fire with flint?" LAME x2

  • What did you catch the spark with?

  • @martialme84 we used a knife and flint for the spark. We used a type of moss from the Kaponga (Silver Fern) in NZ to catch the light.

  • @martialme84 we used a flint bought from a camping shop, and we used moss from a ponga tree as tinder

  • that is sick

  • lmfao see u next fall

  • I give you fire, you give me flint...

  • jackass :DDD

  • you prover your dad wrong bigtime:)

    nice work:D

question: what tinder did u use?

  • @survivingwilderniss We used the Kaponga (Silver Fern). In the base of where the fern branches sprout there is this wool like furry stuff... I dont know how else to explain it :D

  • Do your mum and dad know your out on your own?

  • 5/5 for fall 1/5 for fire.

  • i liked that fall

  • 5 stars for that fall hahahhahaha

  • 5/5 for the fall 4/5 for the rest.

  • Bet u felt like putting the log you fell over on the fire! Rated it 5 stars! Where was this filmed by the way? HOw long did the fire last?

  • Filmed in the Tararua Ranges in New Zealand, just out of Wellington. I think the campsite we made was in the Orongorongo Valley... cant remember too well, too many camping/walking trips!

The fire burned well until we put it out when went to bed... Sparked right back up in the morning tho for breakfast.

Oh, and Jonny didnt throw the log onto the fire, but he did take great pleasure whittling it down to a little pocket sized dog whistle... took him 40 man hours.

  • lol, yall have more troubles figuring out the camera than startin a fire!

    Thanks for the educational vid!

  • i LOL'd so hard at the guy fallin over

  • nice

  • haha great video although i would have edited that bit with the guy falling but i suppose it adds to the humour of the video, its not like we have not all been there and done it haha just some of us dont do it on camera then post it on you tube haha .

  • Thanks for your comment Allan. I thought about editing the fall out... but then reconsidered, because why in the world wouldnt I want to ridicule my friend in front of the whole world!!

  • LOL you clumsy asses. Way to blow on that fire.... good vid.

  • you fell over you fell over

  • jesus christ...stop blowing on it...lol

    let the fire burn...

  • oh lighten up (pun intended lol )... it wasnt bad for our first attempt.

  • I like a campfire it can be cozy.I love to watch them burn i even watch my woodstove in the winter burn.Yes a flint is a handy thing to carry way out in the country.

  • ha this is a good vid. but that fall was pretty funny lmao

  • LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • very cool vid, thx for posting, guys. that was magnesium flint, right? gonna teach my boys how to use it come camping weather.

    00:52 ftw :)

  • Yep thats right, a Magnesium flint. With the flint bar on one side and the mag bar on the other. Trick is not to use too much magnesium, other wise its hard to ge it to spark. Good luck!

  • cool fall

  • fun !

  • cool i guess u guys r kinda weird though

  • weird? ... by weird you mean out-doorsy and manly.

  • lol nice fall. Great vid

  • are you guys communists?
