This is my 2cd favorite. I have so many favorites of theirs, it's hard. But I've loved this song since it's production. And, Phil's voice is so much better as he gets older, or he signs better at low keys. Either way, I'm sorry I missed the Concert, sill have the tickets. An Emergency stopped me. So I thank all of you who post the 2007 concert.
@annbelcar65 JMO I think he's talking either to a woman about his love, or, metaphysically, he's telling God that he'll do anything to please him/her.
@annbelcar65 It's from "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway." At this point in the narrative, Rael (the protagonist) has encountered, a hall with red ochre decor. The masses assembled are slowly crawling through a thick carpet towards a spiral staircase, which leads to a chamber of 32 doors (which only one leads to the way out). There may be more to it than that, but "The Lamb" is a very cerebral work to begin with.
@westpalmscott I appreciate everyone's personal opinion. For me, I think if they hadn't gone "Pop", allot of people who never listened to them, are now listening to them. And it's in an artist's nature to try different things, because they want to branch out. So I personally like ALL their stuff. I'll never say they went too pop. And I agree, that it's one of the best songs. And Flawless.

Good to see Phil taking it seriously again. Great tunes given the proper respect

One of the best songs Genesis ever did. They went a little too pop for me in the 80's, but they were always so flawless live

I love this song. I wish Peter Gabriel can do a show with them.

@annbelcar65 I saw your post on "carpet crawlers". The song is about heroin dealers and their customers.

I enjoy the Gabriel era of Genesis, but this version of CC is even more haunting then when it was played back then.
