I saw parts of Stephen King The Langoliers (probably misspelled that) and I remember a part where they turned down the pressure inside the plane to help them go to sleep.

I was thinking why doesn't the pilot do that while he and the passengers are breathing from oxygen masks. Snakes go to sleep, they fly the rest of the way safely, no need for Samuel to yell.
