I live in the UK where even the police don't carry handguns as an 'everyday'. Wow really brought it home to me what a safe place I live in. The idea that one would contemplate (or need) to carry a handgun is pretty mind blowing for me but the idea that you could need to carry two is just crazy - Hell I'd move, live somewhere else if where you are is that dangerous. they need to make .50 caliber glocks or 1911 or m9 berettas. One thing im gonna design when I grow up is to make a 50 caliber pistol that can accept a longer barrel screwed on so that it can be made a sniper if you need too.

I live in one of the highest grim areas in the United States, and after reading many of the comments I thought I would give a little of my personal thoughts on carrying a weapon for personal defense.

Never understood why people wear a watch AND carry a cell phone. Don't people realize that most cell phones will display the current time? (And it will even update the current time automatically, as well.) Extra bonus - a cell phone with a backlit display also works as a (very dim) flashlight in a pinch. I've changed a tire and diagnosed a few roadside/parking lot mechanical issues in the dark over the years using my crappy ol' cell in this manner.

@sheehy91 Statistically speaking, the states that do not permit a gun permit to carry, they have a relatively higher crime rate vs the states that do permit you to carry. Back in the day when almost everyone carried a gun, the crime rate was lowered. I love guns, and the illusion of safety they provide, I used to carry a .45 single track ported barrel from the springfield armory while working as a body guard, then I got bit by a Phoneutria nigriventer (brazilian wandering spider), never knew such pain.

Wander into a situation that you are not prepared for and as you found out, it will bite you in the ass. Quite literally in your case.

Last week a knife weilding...asshole broke into a house 3 houses down from mine and made her lay on the floor while he robbed her. I've been attacked a few times in the past 3 years as well. One instance, if I had shown the attacker I had a gun, they probably wouldn't have put my friend in the hospital. You never know til it's too late. No paranoia.

Never understood why people wear a watch AND carry a cell phone. Don't people realize that most cell phones will display the current time? (And it will even update the current time automatically, as well.) Extra bonus - a cell phone with a backlit display also works as a (very dim) flashlight in a pinch. I've changed a tire and diagnosed a few roadside/parking lot mechanical issues in the dark over the years using my crappy ol' cell in this manner.

What's your opinion on that G23 and accuracy. I can't get mine to shoot straiter than my 9mm or my 45acp Glocks. Obviously you trust it well to carry it everyday. But how would you compare it accuracy wise to other glock?

@sheehy91 Statistically speaking, the states that do not permit a gun permit to carry, they have a relatively higher crime rate vs the states that do permit you to carry. Back in the day when almost everyone carried a gun, the crime rate was lowered. Heres a question for you, whose house are you more willing to break into, somebodys you KNOW that does not have a gun or somebody you DO KNOW has a gun.

@scandmx5atl I'm not scared of Arabs or muslims, I actually have a close muslim friend right now and I wear a keffiyeh on very cold days. There's a lot of hype about muslims taking over these days but I just don't see that in Scotland.
And we can still own guns, it's just quite inconvenient to go shooting a lot. I used to own an Enfield no.4 and a couple of Nagants (m44 and 91/30) but I sold them when I went to university.
Most of our crime is white/black youth violence, same as in the US.

@cargopaulo Velho, também sou brasileiro, mas acho que você está equivocado em seus pensamentos. Essa "paranóia" foi o que garantiu a democracia no Estados Unidos até hoje. Deveriamos procurar aprender com eles, e não ter ódio deles (digo isso porque visitei seu perfil e vi que você suporta Dilma, e esse anti-americanismo é comum na esquerda). @cargopaulo Não podemos agir como ovelhas ou seremos abatidos pelas raposas. Temos que ser cães pastores. Não pode haver monopólio de força pelo estado, o desarmamento da população é o primeiro passo para instalar um regime totálitario em um país (vide Alemanha nazista, Coréia do Norte, URSS, China, etc), por isso sou a favor da posse e do porte irrestrito no Brasil, com restrição somente à ex-condenados por qualquer tipo de crime e reprovados em teste psicológico.
