haha, I did the entire track on my iphone using Beatmaker. The track is 3 and a half minutes long and uses 35 layers. Basically doing it for about an hour a day on the train, it took me about 10 days (although I wasn't rushing or anything). It was damn fun to make though. Glad you liked it.
Hehe, thanks, although I still think it sounded terrible, at least at first. I should have warmed up a bit before kicking off... but it was all about having fun so hey ;)
I recorded a scratch track once - a friend asked me to mix up some hip hop for him, with a lot of Eminem. I took a Morning Musume EP and scratched a loop over the top of the opening track and when I told him, he was going to kill me, but when he heard it, he conceded it came out great ;)
Haha, I don't really do scratch normally and this was very rough, but it is all about knowing and loving your music. That way, even a crap DJ like me can get events... ;)
That's cool that your brother spins! What kind of stuff does he play? I've been going off on a bit of Baile Funk fad myself lately - Brazilian takes on old school Miami Bass.
Not at all, I'm totally new to this music tag stuff but looking for more man. Maybe I'll have a go at remixing you sometime (with your permission of course ;)
Wow - a few years when I was DJing I used Acid Pro to make some stuff that actually was pretty good, but various dramas discouraged me... As someone not really used to software like this now, what do you recommend - I'm kinda looking at Fruityloops right now, although I remember cubase having a good rep...
yeah mang all those programs are on point....fruity loops is ok..i dont care for that program too much, but thats just my personal opinon..cubase, protools, and reason i use ALL the time
Haha, well, I've never pretended to be good at it, but I've had a lot of great times and hooked up with some very cool people doing it. Honestly, the scratching here is terrible - I warmed up a bit in places, but I've always been more of a "mix DJ" (if anything) - really glad you enjoyed it. I'll try to figure out more ways to work this in, particularly on my BlogTV show.
Glad you like it! There were a lot of great hooks in Apokalypse34's jam, upping the samples and even easing the guitar back, I agree, it pumps - this was great fun. Thanks for the nice comment!
Haha, truth is that I had been neglecting my babies there they had been collecting dust and although the scratching is VERY rough, it felt good to get back on and play again. I've got some ideas for finding ways to get my decks into my vids in future, so stand by ;)
Haha, the video was a bit rushed actually, but it was a good learning exercise so that I can power it up even more next time I do this. Thanks for the nice comment, really appreciate it :D
The pleasure is all mine, thanks for the nice feedback. I really want to have a go at putting some more work in and making some decent music sometime. I know what I like and this was a real buzz, and great to get feedback like yours.
Hey man, thanks so much, really glad you liked this. I loved your vid - I was kinda hearing the samples of you talking to beats in my head when you put your vid up, but to make it come out was great, and of course your guitar jamming and putting that in a couple of hooks is what makes it. Thanks for challenging me on this. I'll try to make a vid sometime explaining how I put this together. The iphone sequencer software is a $20 app that does just what you pay $300 for to do on a PC. Thanks again
Haha, MATE! Absolutely, great to hear you're making it back over here man. Look forward to meeting up! Glad you liked this too - I suspect we have a bit of musical taste in common so looking forward to some brews and a chat.
Haha, thanks - I wanted the lower left one to be a bit sharper - I used some VJing equipment but the capture on it didn't go very well so it ended up not as in sync as it was when I recorded it, but good fun to use all my cameras!
Hey man, I've been DJing since I was about 19, and have migrated from Happy Hardcore, to Drum and Bass, to 2Step and Speed Breaks. I like beats and breaks. I wanted to do more of this stuff on YouTube but it's hard with copyright issues. With Creative Commons catching on now though, there's a growing pool of cool music that you can use with permission now so I'll try to set something like this up again. Cheers!
The track took me about 14 train commutes to lay down on my iPhone, and probably could be beefed up and tweaked some more on a computer with some proper sequencing software, but I loved doing this. I've caught the bug!
Really appreciate the nice comment as well. Cheers mate.
I got the idea playing his video back - I like the laid back drawl in how he speaks, it suits the beat and the guitars too. Finding the guitar breaks was a lot harder than I was expecting, but great fun. I've got the bug to do more projects like this now, next time being a bit more musical myself too... Loved your response by the way - really magic, especially how you did the vid like a music video too.
haha sweet. hey, have you ever used the serato program on your decks? I do a little DJing (mostly hiphop) but i'm actually a drummer. I make allot of beats for Oz Hiphop acts.(on drums and programs etc)...if you are ever looking for a beat let me know. lol =P
True?! Niiice! Back when I was DJing, I did a lot of DnB and Speed Breaks, so for me beats is what it is all about. I'm guessing you'll already be able to pick my lack of effort in this case (I'm still learning to customize the pads on the drum machine I have in BeatMaker), but this exercise was so much fun that I am starting to see the possibilities for collaborative projects done like this. Don't mind if I hit you up for a beat sometime :)
I thought it would be fun to "remix" him directly ;) It was a fun exercise in learning to use the software on my iPhone. I hope he enjoys it and I can't wait to hear you let rip on your response.
Hey Siolor, it still seems to be there, probably just YouTube acting up - the music is mine so there is no reason for it to be taken down. Check it out - I am also uploading the track onto Jamendo if you like it so stand by for that (I'll post the link in the sidebar when it's there)
Cheers mate, I cut the samples using some freeware called Wave Repair, and edited the entire track using BeatMaker on iPhone, during my commute over the last week. It is a bit simple, but I love how it came out - cheers mate!
these "ahhh" phrases never dies. This funky beat reminds me of old school. cool!!
