  • These tests are flawed. The drivers know what tires they are riding on when doing the test. Double-blind is the only way.

  • The expense is worth the cost of your life -- Get winter tires!

  • That is why it is the law in Quebec that you must have winter tires.

  • I drive a 2003 Grand AM and I experimented with my friend who has a Toyota Yaris which is much lighter, mine with 4 winter tires and his with all-seasons. We were in an empty parking lot, did 50km/h and slammed on the brakes at the same time. Even though his car is way lighter than mine, I still stopped before he did. He went out and bought winters for his Yaris after that test. It's all about the tires people. All-seasons are inferior in winter conditions. Once you try them, you never go back.

  • Those who don't believe they work haven't tried them. I won't drive a winter without them. You still must be careful when driving with winter tires. It's not just about getting stuck, it's to help you avoid a collision with someone who can't drive/won't drive to the conditions. You stop sooner (1-1.5 car lengths), safer lane changes and you are safer making turns. Bottom line, the cheapest winter tire outperforms the most expensive all-season tire (should be 3-season tires).

  • well there winter tires of course they would be better but if you drive to the conditions is most important and alot of ppl with snow tires drive like its just a regular day when its snowing like crazy so its not really that much safer they do improve traction no doubt but not everyone can afford more tires and less gas mileage

  • Winter Tires consume alot more fuel thus your money spend on gas could be more expensive. I use all season tires and i haven't got into any accident. Drive slower and be more cautious on the road. I think your should be ok.

  • What I meant is that the regulation was ready, but, when I rented the van at U-Haul, on Dec 20th, they did not have any car with winter tires. I asked them if any and they answered "None". "all our vehicles have only all seasons tires"

So, Dec the 20th and no winter tires....

  • u haul is a bunch of crooks u ever wonder why u see a 1 pertucular licence plate from the usa, tho they never go to the states the vans r shitty unsafe regardless of kind fo tires.

id never use u haul, had some1 in my class work for em they r nasty.

but i have tried pods loved it. no idiots to break my stuff/scrach n dent it on my time and not have to wait all day or go to another city to pick up a u haul.

    cin

  • This is so true. Starting last october, in Quebec is mandatory to have winter tires. I went to UHaul to rent a car, here in Montreal last december and they said that all the vans they have have all season tires.

so, the law does not apply to big companies?

  • that's not correct. The mandatory winter tires were as of Dec 15. I actually had my tires stolen and had to use a rental around Dec 8. The rental company had winters on the car. Back in October, they obviously would not have (only necessary to put winters on your car in November anyway)
