@strongarmeric You might be right but generally the great armies of the world are those that conquered a significant part of the world and HELD it. The Chinese, Zulus, Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, French, British and Americans all qualify but Italy, Germany and Japan hasn't quite achieved this pinnacle. @Stromberg91 Agreed for me the best tank of ww2 was the Panther Medium tank which had speed and sloping armour and a great main gun compared to the Tiger which was slow and prone to mech difficulties but had very good armour and a 88 main gun but as always the tanks as good as its crew.

Soldiers ran away and got scared from the Tiger tank just cause they knew what it could do. But as you say the big problem with german tanks and german engineering is that they made things work and they should work for mayby 15 years. But they mayby only lasted a few months, they were difficult to produce and difficult to do service on them.

But the russain T-34 was an very good tank to. With its sloping armour and easy to build and maintain it was very good. In the 60's there were many great Warriors in the NVA and some of my friends grudgingly gave their respect to them. Same thing with "Nazis". A Warrior is a Warrior even if his politics are abhorrent. It is "Leibstandarte" (spoken as "i", as in "I like"), and not "Liebstandarte", because "lieb" means "lovely" in German. And the Leibstandarte was anything else than lovely!

Regardless of the ideological and political nature of the Waffen-SS, one must admitt that they were the best soldiers ever. Bravery was highly encouraged in the Waffen-SS. By no means whatsoever you can compare this army with any other. The regular Whermacht troops were very pleased to know there was some Waffen-SS precense in their frontsector. Soldiers like Wittmann symbolised the spirit whitin the Waffen-ss.

I've been in the Army for 9 years as and Infantry soldier. Been on 4 combat deployments. I've personally worked with or been around guys from the Canadian, Danish, British, Italian and Australian military.
Well over half of that they learn and train for as far as tactics, etc all directly come from U.S. military practices.
The Americans defeated and won the majority of land battles against the British Indian Allies in the Gulf Coast. And the American also defeated the large major British Invasion Fleet at The Battle ofNew Orleans in 1815. American won control of the great lakes during the Naval Battles.
England gained nothing. It only made them severely deeper in debt. All their military forces had to return home after 1815 with nothign to show for it.

They were the bad guys but they had better weapons, more training, and the Germans were the inventors of blitzkrieg which shapes the modern U.S. strategy. @Stromberg91 Agreed for me the best tank of ww2 was the Panther Medium tank which had speed and sloping armour and a great main gun compared to the Tiger which was slow and prone to mech difficulties but had very good armour and a 88 main gun but as always the tanks as good as its crew.

@FingersGreen0 well I kinda agree with you on that too. Just that the Tiger tank had something that is rarely seen on a battlefield and that was its status. Soldiers ran away and got scared from the Tiger tank just cause they knew what it could do. But as you say the big problem with german tanks and german engineering is that they made things work and they should work for mayby 15 years. But they mayby only lasted a few months, they were difficult to produce and difficult to do service on them.

@FingersGreen0 well. My personal favourite is the TIger tanks I. But it was a complicated tank to pruduce and maintain. But If I was a tankcommande during this time I would still chose that one. But the russain T-34 was an very good tank to. With its sloping armour and easy to build and maintain it was very good. The tiger and King tiger was to heavy and slow so the best german tank should probable be the Panther. But it shouldve had a 88 mm istead of a 75 mm gun Thats a tank that would be great

Wittman was a true Warrior. Even though I'm American I can give praise to ANY warrior no matter what flag they fight under. In the 60's there were many great Warriors in the NVA and some of my friends grudgingly gave their respect to them. Same thing with "Nazis". A Warrior is a Warrior even if his politics are abhorrent. War brings out the best (and worst) in many men. You never know how YOU would perform in combat unless you have been there. Wittmann is in the 1% that succeed in remaining an calm and doing your job under extreme stress. I don't care what uniform a man is wearing, Wittmann is one of the very few who had what it took to perform his job above and beyond what could be expected of ANY man. As an American Wittman would be my "enemy". As a Soldier Wittmann would be a VERY worthy comrade in arms...

It is "Leibstandarte" (spoken as "i", as in "I like"), and not "Liebstandarte", because "lieb" means "lovely" in German. And the Leibstandarte was anything else than lovely!

"Mann" simply means man and is very common in Germany. Wittmann is by no means Jewish and I can tell you that I've never heard of a Jew to have that surname, or any other traditionally German surname (Rothstein, Goldmann, Goldberg, etc., are not German surnames but German-Jewish surnames - made up by Jews!)

Yes. Notice the "gold" part. Jews never use traditional German surnames which originate from German farmers and other craftsmen. (Because the Jews have never ever done manual and constructive labor, they've always been in the counting houses with their gold coins, hence their surnames.)

Like in the most of those American documentaries the narrator is struggling hard with simple German expressions like the Leibstandarte.
The narrator speaks it out, as if the "ei" of Leib (body/personal) would be "ie" like Lieb (love).
In fact the narrator says Love - Banner (squad) instead of Personal - Banner (spuad). :-))
My English is flawed. But I know that and if I would make an expensive documentary, I would ask language professionals about the pronunciation of foreign words.

Regardless of the ideological and political nature of the Waffen-SS, one must admitt that they were the best soldiers ever. Bravery was highly encouraged in the Waffen-SS. By no means whatsoever you can compare this army with any other. The regular Whermacht troops were very pleased to know there was some Waffen-SS precense in their frontsector. Soldiers like Wittmann symbolised the spirit whitin the Waffen-ss.

@stefalbert You gotta be kidding me, Waffen SS didn't take prisoners and conducted scorched earth tactic in the Eastern Front killing everything. Go check and see how many Waffen-SS units were guilty of war crimes. Your rationale is like me saying the atomic bomb was the most effective weapon ever! It just killed everything! And Wittman's unit lost 5 out of 8 Tiger tanks in Villers-Bocage alone when there were only something like 36 in the Normandy sector. His Tigers went in without infantry.

I've been in the Army for 9 years as and Infantry soldier. Been on 4 combat deployments. I've personally worked with or been around guys from the Canadian, Danish, British, Italian and Australian military.
Well over half of that they learn and train for as far as tactics, etc all directly come from U.S. military practices.

The Americans defeated and won the majority of land battles against the British Indian Allies in the Gulf Coast. And the American also defeated the large major British Invasion Fleet at The Battle ofNew Orleans in 1815. American won control of the great lakes during the Naval Battles.

@VodkaAce The Ameican military today is very good and clearly the best technologically. However in the second world war there is no disputing the kill ratio the SS scored. They were the bad guys but they had better weapons, more training, and the Germans were the inventors of blitzkrieg which shapes the modern U.S. strategy. Our American military is based on the German military of WW2. Even our modern helmets are a Kevlar version of the German helmet from ww2 the shape is identical.

continued.....also there is a reason why you don't see U.S. infantry going overseas to train, but yet you see other friendly nations coming here all the time on a regualr basis to attend some of our school, ie..jump school, pathfinder, ranger school, scout sniper EVAL at Ft. Benning.
Lastly just look at histories record. We defeated the most powerful military in the world(American Revolutionary War. Then again in the war of 1812. beat Nazis, communist etc...

Leibstandarte is prononced wrong here. Leib - the "ei" sounds in german like "die" or "my" or simply "y" . So please --- i guess it's not that hard to deal with.
