Consumer grade routers are fine for home use, but commercial grade routers provide higher performance and reliability levels, plus more flexibility in configuration. Knowing how to operate at the command line gives you full access to all commands, you can write scripts to automate various processes, and older Cisco routers don't even include a GUI. Eventually, it may not be necessary for most administrators to know the command line, but for now it's still a good idea.
I need to "open" a port. Can you help? This method doesn't seem to do it.

Why can't you just log in to router with user interface like consumer version to do this job?
