the M4 is a precision carbine, the SAW is meant to give suppressive fire, basically throwing so many rounds down range, wheather they hit or not, that the enemy wont stick their head up. and the 5.56 is unreliable in yawing or fragmenting on impact, same with the AK round so in the end its all about how big a hole you punch in the guy. the problem with the taliban is they sit there and fire fully
automatic at anything that moved. if they actually fired semi automatically with well aimed shots the causalty rates for US forces would be through the roof.
i think that you need to get YOUR facts straight dude. i have fired the M4 and M16 series of rifles at ranges out to 400 yards and i can tell you. the M4 is less accurate at distance than the M16. ive fired the AK series of rifles and i can say that up to 300 yards with well aimed shots you can get reasonable groupings

well the thing is, with semi automatic shots you aim at a point target, which is what youre trained to do in basic training. the thing with the SAW is to put a lot of rounds down range so the enemy wont stick his head up but if he does you have soldiers armed with M16's and M4's to pick them off with single shots or bursts. if we didnt use "covering fire" to keep the enemy's heads down it would be one wall of guns shooting at another wall of guns, and that would
make the place a killzone. if you make the enemy scared to put their head up they either retreat or try to be a hero by standing up then getting picked off by the guys with rifles. yes, the SAW is used as a kill weapon in urban areas but at 500m without an optic all it does is put rounds on the enemy's general area to make them scared to stand up, then when they do stand up bang, the rest of the americans will shoot the guy with rifles
so before you go saying that you know how the weapons work and their effectiveness i think you should shoot them yourself. the M16 series is a well built precision weapon with a dinky round that is unreliable in terms of yaw and fragmentation. the gas system is also faulty and cheaper, more reliable piston systems are available.
i will say this. if you have an M16A2 rifle, basic platform. put at least a .270 size round (like the 6.8spc) and a long stroke piston system into
the weapon you would have a rifle that has a very potent cartrige, a reliable gas system, and is capable of precision shooting.
the AK will always be more reliable than ANY M16 series of rifles but the M16 is a platform that, if the beurocrats get their shit straight, can turn into a weapon superiror to almost anything else out there.
i personally will always like more conventional rifles like the FAL-series and my favorite the AK series because they are both
the reason the AK-74's round is superior is because the projectile is VERY long compared to the m855NATO and its tail has a lead plug that will instantly cause tumbling unlike the m855NATO which can take up to 18" to start to yaw and tumble.
so before you use your internet research go out, shoot a few hundred rounds with the rifles and then give input.

damnit, i dont see why a lot of soldiers INSIST on using M4's instead of M16's in the valleys and mountains like this. i can understand if youre in a cillage or town because its easier to shoulder it and and manuever but in places like the korengal the M4 does not have the range and its just not as accurate overall.

the M4 is a precision carbine, the SAW is meant to give suppressive fire, basically throwing so many rounds down range, wheather they hit or not, that the enemy wont stick their head up. and the 5.56 is unreliable in yawing or fragmenting on impact, same with the AK round so in the end its all about how big a hole you punch in the guy. the problem with the taliban is they sit there and fire fully

i think that you need to get YOUR facts straight dude. i have fired the M4 and M16 series of rifles at ranges out to 400 yards and i can tell you. the M4 is less accurate at distance than the M16. ive fired the AK series of rifles and i can say that up to 300 yards with well aimed shots you can get reasonable groupings

well the thing is, with semi automatic shots you aim at a point target, which is what youre trained to do in basic training. the thing with the SAW is to put a lot of rounds down range so the enemy wont stick his head up but if he does you have soldiers armed with M16's and M4's to pick them off with single shots or bursts. if we didnt use "covering fire" to keep the enemy's heads down it would be one wall of guns shooting at another wall of guns, and that would

make the place a killzone. if you make the enemy scared to put their head up they either retreat or try to be a hero by standing up then getting picked off by the guys with rifles. yes, the SAW is used as a kill weapon in urban areas but at 500m without an optic all it does is put rounds on the enemy's general area to make them scared to stand up, then when they do stand up bang, the rest of the americans will shoot the guy with rifles

so before you go saying that you know how the weapons work and their effectiveness i think you should shoot them yourself. the M16 series is a well built precision weapon with a dinky round that is unreliable in terms of yaw and fragmentation. the gas system is also faulty and cheaper, more reliable piston systems are available.
i will say this. if you have an M16A2 rifle, basic platform. put at least a .270 size round (like the 6.8spc) and a long stroke piston system into

the reason the AK-74's round is superior is because the projectile is VERY long compared to the m855NATO and its tail has a lead plug that will instantly cause tumbling unlike the m855NATO which can take up to 18" to start to yaw and tumble.
so before you use your internet research go out, shoot a few hundred rounds with the rifles and then give input.

the current Russian service weapon is the AKM-74 rifle chambered in 5.45x39. the "m" in AKM stands for "modernised" because before the AKM rifles there were wooden stocks and hand guards, now they use a high durability polymer and fiberglass. the AKS is a paratrooper version with a folding stock. the designation is the same for the AKM-47 and the AKS-47

pretty much they'll sneak up crawling on their chest and face literally up the slope to the outpost that the americans are at and the slope is at an angle so that the machine gunners cant get a bead on them and theyll sit there all day then crawl up during the night, in the morning at first light they'll be around 50-75 meters or closer then when the first patrol comes out they pop out from the slope onto the trail or outpost and just put up a wall of lead
