you're right, he isn't in the same league has paul. he is in a league of his own that nobody can surpass. he is the most diverse guitarist in history, nobody plays the amount of genres he does and can actually PLAY all of them and not half-ass it. this has a chuck schuldiner tone, but the playing isn't too close to chuck schuldiner. not enough harmonic minor in there. also, did you even listen to iceman? it's pretty much the same riff.

If anything maybe they appreciate each other. still i thinik paul has way more chops and a more mature sound and that's soley why i dont like bucket head. He got to much of that industrial nu metalish sound which i find immature but thats just my two cents. And we will all never fully agree

nu-metal? no, avant-garde and noise metal. i think a select few things he does sounds immature, but most of it sounds very polished and well organized to me. he has his own style and his own style consists of at least 15 genres. the riffs are different, i just found it ironic that paul's student, who was so influenced by paul, made a riff that sounded like a paul riff before paul wrote it.

@JgHaverty satriani is more mellow now, age of course has a factor in it, but there is also a maturity to the music, he delivers his emotions and feelings with less noise. He has a range of albums for every taste to enjoy. He goes from like totally relaxed blues album ("Joe Satriani") to a album inspired by techno music ("Engines of creation"). He is 52 and he still rocks more than many todays bands and solo artists. That my friend is amazing. Vai is the most experimental player ever. Truly god
