  • These guys were AWESOME!

  • @fxtrader92

Really? Please!!! The Raiders got so lucky in that game. They took the momentum and kept it due to a handful of fluke plays..

  • Theismann needs to check his history because there have been a lot more than just two QB's to win back to back Super Bowls off the top of my head, Montana 88-89, Aikman 92-93, Elway 97-98, Starr 66-67, Bradshaw 74-75, and Griese 72-73.

    Joe you been drinkin' again.

  • Theismann is so full of himself.

  • Too bad you guys got the crap beat out of you by the Raiders. They were vastly superior.

Joe Theisman is so clueless. "83 Redskins among best teams ever." Yet the year ended with the Raiders killing you. Clueless.

The Raiders that year were one of the best ever, not the skins.

  • @fxtrader92

You could say the '07 Pats were the greatest team as well, after all they went undefeated until the Supr Bowl. But they lost the last one. They doesn't mean they aren't great. Just the Raiders found the Redskins weakness that year, and the Skins had not faced a team that year with the likes of Marcus Allen, the Pats had played any team that year that had found their weakness, or that had a defense as strong as the Giants.

  • Never a Redskins fan. But both these guys are pretty awesome.

  • I was had the privilege of working with both of these guys from '78-82. They are among the best ever.

  • Thank you so much for this post. Awesome analysis. Redskins Fan4Life.

The more I watch the NFL, especially the ups and downs of the different franchises, I think Joe Theismann is 100% spot on about the game being a mental sport. Confidence breeds confidence and confusion breeds confusion.

Crushing defeats seem to scar some of these franchises for a very long time. Patriots D crumbled after the Giants SB win. Oakland has been a disaster since their embarrassing showing to Tampa Bay.

  • riggo, just give him the ball.

  • almost makes me want to root for the Skins with this kind of spot analysis and continuing interest and commitment of ex-players like this...

  • I am from Baltimore so you know where my loyalty lies. However, I must say even though I could care less about the Redskins, I admire both Joe Theismann and John Riggins. Both, especially John Riggins are real old school real football players.

  • Poor Joe. If only they woulda' won XVIII. Poor, poor Joe.

  • That '84 superbowl blowout was such a disappointment; they should've been able to make it at least a contest. Besides being out-muscled by one of the strong AFC teams the Redkins weren't used to playing, I think they were also intimidated as well as flat for the game. They lay down, otherwise it should've at least been closer though not a chance of winning.

  • @hardcorehouse BS, they beat the raiders earlier in the year.

  • It's time to get rid of your fantasy and finally accept reality there "hok" LOL they had to mount a furious comeback to barely beat the Raiders. That should've been a huge wakeup call as to what they would face in the SB but they didn't realize how lucky they'd been. You're still in dreamland.

  • @hokiemike44

Marcus Allen was injured and didn't play in that game and Mike Haynes did not join the Raiders until later in the season, it was different Raider team in the Super Bowl.

  • 2 Old Teammates talking about the Redskins Good Old Days & sharing how the Redskins can get back to that.

  • This is a very cool video. Keep something in mind...these 2 guys were NEVER good friends or pals when they played for the Skins, however, the professional respect they have for each other is so incredibly impressive here....

  • My favorite rivals!!

  • It's DC. The demon of confusion & incompetence that runs the gov't is also running the Skins.

  • Riggo should be on the Kansas quarter, even though he is still alive. Rock Chalk JAYHAWK.

  • Theisman is being wimp. He's not as fearless as Riggo, what's new?

Riggo is giving the straight truth and he should be admired. Theisman has $interest and he's protecting himself. So obvious it's kinda sad.

  • Since when has Theisman ever....and I mean ever been a wimp? Sure, Riggo is a more blunt guy but c'mon.

  • Great point on Theisman he works for Snyder now at espn980 radio so he's not going to rock the boat.

  • fuck off, have you discovered the secret to eternal youthful life?

  • Luv Ya Sunshine (Joey T), but you just have to take off those rose colored glasses. Snyder may not be evil, but he is a fool, and his boy Vinny has thoroughly wrecked this franchise. The O-line? Nuf said.

As for the 83 Skins being the best in history, I wish you were right. But try as we might, the Raiders and 38-9 was no fluke.

  • You're right. You cannot sustain the argument that a team which got blown out in the championship game was the best in history. Still, they lost two regular-season games that season by a total of two points, and won their divisional playoff game 51-7. I know Gibbs regards them as the best he coached. As for Super Bowl XVIII . . . just sickening. I agree 100% with you on the state of the current team.

  • Man I miss these guys. They made my childhood.

  • ouch !...the truth hurts

  • Legends. Shut up and listen.

    Hail!

  • I could care less about his ex wives. I'm not married to him. He was a great football player and a good play by play guy. When he starts giving marriage advice then call him an asshole.

  • Two of the greatest Redskins who have ever lived in the room agreeing, I cannot honestly believe that I'm living through this mess of a season and that it is so bad that we are hearing Riggins and Theismann all but roasting our team.

  • A ton of great memories growing up watching both of you...thanks for all the great times, my childhood was better because of you both.

  • I agree completely.

  • Takes one to know one.

  • Better than being an idiot Raiders fan, or are you from Dallas? Another example of a tough guy behind a computer keyboard. If you hate the Skins why are you even watching this? That bored?

  • Funny you don't say what your favorite team is.....

  • Point on!!

  • When these gentlemen speak about football, you listen. Nice.

  • I live next to the Rose Bowl and think of Theisman and Riggins beating the dolphins in super bowl XVII there a lot!

  • Very nice Riggo. Can't wait to see the rest, which is when?

  • all they gotta do now is scrape up art monk, the hogs, daryl green and then they'll really tear the redskins apart

  • I grew up cheering for you both! Thanks for the good memories!

    BEAT DALLAS!!!
