  • I got one for our 77 caddy coupe deville! its going to be awesome!

  • i know! put it on a lawn mower haha

  • Cool vid! BTW--why was the 472 replaced by 500 Cubic inch in the 75 and 76 Caddy Devilles anyway? My guess is emission regulations?

  • I bought one of these on craigslist because of this video

  • My friend ran his chevy 350 with straight headers for about two weeks, that was freaking loud, and your standing right were the sound comes out...lol must be crazy loud.

  • (sigh) I hate it when people post comments that show they realy don't know what they are talking about, for instnace the last comment that says the caddilac 500 was the largest production V8 ever Made its not. Ford made a black diamond 512CI V8 that was mass produced and used in commercial applications and retrofitted into many a car back in the day. The list goes on and on.

  • @bpktrucking

(sigh) Allison made a 1,710 c.i. aircraft engine that was mass-produced and retrofitted into many a car and dragster back in the day. I think YOU'RE the one who doesn't know what he is talking about, or at least you don't get what "largest mass produced V-8 available in a production car" means. Are there bigger engines? Sure, plenty. Could you go down to a dealer and drive away with any of them in a new car or pickup? NO.

  • @GollDangZilla First off the ramark was not aimed at you but since ya dicided to be an ass I'll address the isue first off He Said and a Quote" 33 years after its demise, still the largest production V8 ever. AWESOME! " He didn't say largest american made V8 Mass produced and available in a Production Car! So kind of looks like YOU Don't know what your talking about Guy! He just said largest Mass Produced v8 The example's I used were common mass produced Gasoline v8's

  • (cont.) Most people who like cars know that there are plenty of over-the-counter race engines from all major US auto manufacturers (and aftermarket) WAY over 500 c. i., but none came INSTALLED in a production automobile. It is the AUTOMOBILE that people mean whan they say "production", not an engine bound for some commercial or industrial application, you muppet! (cont.@next post)

  • (cont.) If you don't want people to show you their ass, kindly don't drop comments aimed at picking apart others' comments and belittling them like you're some kind of "Mr. Knowledge" or something.

  • That's what makes 'em even better. They're light, too. A 500 Cad with an aluminum intake (like the one in the video) weighs only about 60 more pounds than a yucky small-block shivvy.

  • For its huge displacement it looks pretty small...

  • You bet al3id! Only maunfactured 1970-1976. Was standard in all Eldorados & commercial chassied vehicles I.E. hearses & ambulances, otherwise optional. My Dad owned a 1972 Cadillac hearse. Even though it was detuned from its 1970 ratings & horsepower was switched from gross to net ratings, that thing still put out unGodly amounts of tourque! Strong, dependable & bulletproof, THAT was the Cadillac 500!

  • @rpgct1

Eldorado only '70 - '74. Used in both FWD and RWD '75 - '76. 1972 RWD was a 472. Still a torque monster, just a slightly shorter stroke.

  • the rarest amercian V8 Engine

  • @al3id

Hate to break the bad news: Cool as they are, there are many American V-8's WAAAAY rarer than the ol' Cad 500...

  • 33 years after its demise, still the largest production V8 ever. AWESOME!

  • Great engine. I know how loud those are doing that, I started mine the same way, but in the grass. Makes your heart race and the neighbors get off their sofas.

  • How did you wire up the motor to run outside the truck?

  • You only need to hook up the distributor to the positive. The starter wire you touch to the positive to crank it over. The gas you see is in his bucket underneath the engine.

  • @duaneafields

Well, actually, the bucket is just holding up the battery; the "petrol" is in the jug. I, er uh, he used a remote starter switch between the battery and the solenoid. Hey, we's high-tech rednecks!!!

  • Damn, what a super-cool deal!!! 500's RULE, 'specially when put in a Dodge 3/4 ton! ;-) Of, course, I'm SURE he'll clean the plugz and take care of that little misfire issue once he gets it in the truck...
