Mailer died like all true prophets -unhonoured in his own country. I disagree with some parts of his analysis of American politics, but I admire his intellectual courage, and I think his best books are among the best in all American literature.

fantastic, I almost took notes....we(the left) did lose in 68, didn't we? but we didn't lose the popular opinion-- a good solid run up to about 1980
