@Tuba408Bass Well if you knew this part in the show that's what it's supposed to be. They play this so beautifully, I don't understand how that's the one thing you can say.
in 05 & 06 i marched with a corps called the Esperanza Drum and Bugle Corps. in 05 a Santa Clara vet by the name of Chris Roundtree was one of our hornline techs. he was the bari soloist in SCV's 04 show. just after we played what this video shows, I saw chris for the first time in almost 5 years. he remembered me as i did him, with great respect & i was able to shake his hand. that single moment of him seeing me wearing my star meant the world to me. there's no place like Santa Clara.
@bradporky16 is esperanza ever going to compete again or is the organization done?
Are there any Corps left in San Diego? Hard to believe a place with as much talent as that (as well as beautiful weather practically year round) has no competing Drum corps. Just doesn't seem right...
@oldschooldrumcorps my guess? no. never. all the horns and drums and other equipment was bought up by a local high school whose director was on brass staff at E. last I heard, the trailer was impounded with a $50,000 lein on it. i dont know if this is true, but its what I was told. if Esperanza did come back, it would have to be under new management.
Flash forward a couple of days and I was embracing a SCV fan at the top of the stadium at Buchanan High School in Clovis, CA. She looked at me (with tears in my eyes) and said THAT'S all I need to know...in my humble opinion one of the finest shows ever performed...
gahh! i wish i could go to one of these, hearing it on computer speakers takes my breath away but speakers and simulcast dont really seem to do that kind of sound justice...
When i saw SCV at World Finals this portion of their show made me instanly begin crying. The pure beauty of their sound brought out every emotion in my body and showed me how much I love music and how much I appreciate the power music has on ones soul. Truly beyond this world Amazing!
this was my favorite moment of the summer with DCI. The tension and anticipation that was built up throughout the closer and then to have them just create the massive company front was spectacular! This is by far one of the better hornlines that SCV has had in the past 20 years
My above comment is a serious understatement, this is an absolutely incredible performance/arrangement of simple gifts. In it I see the divine triumph of the human spirit and the community of all men.
WOW!!! I performed this with the 92 JSU Marching Southerners and can't wait to hear it live. Sounds like they have a real shot at a gold medal this year. CANT WAIT TO SEE THEM LIVE NOW!!!!!!
I performed this in 2006 with the Marching Southerners as the end of the closer. I also had the privilege of seeing SCV at Gadsden last night. I nearly lost it when they played this part.
Vanguard is so flying under the radar this year. All the buzz is about Carolina Crown and the Cadets but SCV gets better with every performance. This show will capture the crowds the way Phantoms show did last year and that will push them over the edge. SCV will get it done!!!!
Yep, I think people are putting too much emphasis on Crown and Cadets...I'm a Fmm of Cadets, and a very long time fan of SCV...can't wait to see them!
jeff fiedler is bleeding through like crazy!!! scv = the new cavies! hooray vanguard they finally are in good hands of a director who knows what he's doing..
no, more like jeff fiedler just has an upper hand, not that pearson or Valenzuela weren't doing their job i just personaly think that fiedler can take them to a whole new level. you know what i'm sayin?
yeah i saw that, i think we (the fans) will find a spot. they can put the fiedler into the scv but they can't take the scv out of the fan... oh you know what im tryn to say! lol!
I don't really think there is any spot in the show good enough to yell it, and personally, I think we should respect their wish, because they rely on the moments of silence in their show as an effect.
ooooh!! well then it works out great.. i will miss the vanguard yell though
have you seen the show yet? i'm going to san antonip.. so excited. everyone is doing verywell.. whats, your early guess at rankings? based on scores or your wish list.
Vanguard's show is gonna be THE fan favorite this season. Their show stays so true to the original appalachian spring, it is unreal. Very emotional show.
I have a feeling they are going to at least get a metal at Finals. Will they win? idk too early to tell.
my early guess at the rankings: 1) BD, 2) Crown, 3) SCV, 4) Cadets, 5) Cavies, 6) Bluecoats, 7) PR, 8) Blue Knights, 9) Blue Stars, 10) Boston Crusaders, 11) Glassmen, 12) Troopers. but it's still early. anything can happen. I do think that scores are gonna be through the roof this year. top 5 will be above 96 points.
What amazes me about this is the clarity of the mello counter-line. The rest of the line is playing fff and the alto line sounds so relaxed and breezy. I guess having 16 mellos helps.
Awesome performance, I can't wait to see SCV this year. As a Garfield alumnus, I really love to hear this piece of music, and absolutely always admired SCV's commitment to performance and professionalism.
Ok, grow up. I removed your comment from my video page for being so childish. Excited, yeah....I get it. FHNSAB.....period, no need for the FBD part....as if we all can't figure out what that means. Enjoy SCV, their awesome music and post an intelligent comment.
I hope you guys warm up to this when you are in San Antonio..I would miss watching probably 2 corps (depending on who they are) just to record/listen to this live in San An.
SCV knows only one dynamic.. and it is LOUD
