  • Oh this is a great video Lisa I always pop in from time to time and listen to it. I never tire of listening to it...take care my friend.........Richard ;-)

  • Real fine stuff u playin....yeah !!

  • full of wonder

  • Hi carsickphil. Thanks for the comment. Singing and playing together should feel natural. I like to practice where I'm alone (usually my car parked under a tree). ..but then, I'm not much of a singer. Your videos sound good. you are using a metronome I'm guessing ..just keep upping the tempo gradually..and watch lots of youtube videos for inspiration!

  • Nice work. Do you have any advice on how best to make the step from playing instrumentals to playing and singing together? Do you have a process you follow for bringing it all together?

BTW I've posted my own instrumental slow slide blues on my channel and would welcome any advice you might like to offer

  • Belle voix et une dobro qui sonne blues. Superbe.

  • Yeah!

  • fantastic, sounds great

  • Sounds great! That Regal has that good "honky tonk" sound but its your playing that makes the sound great. Thanks!

  • sounds great..........cheers.

  • Great Job! I have one of those guitars! The neck broke off three times, but the last time I put it back together with bolts, oak plugs and gorilla glue. It's held up for a couple years now and actually plays and sounds better than when I first got it. Maybe because off all the extraneous material buried in the neck? Keep up the great playing!

  • awsome

  • Great job Lisa! I wish I could do that :)

  • I swear I liked it. Not perfect but someone else keepin the Blues alive? I'll take it every day.

  • Really Diggin this !

  • That was very good

  • very nice, right from the heart.

  • Damn thank you Mam!

  • Nice to hear some of the old stuff being played. "Dust My Broom" was the first piece of slide I ever worked out how to play - I'd forgotten about it till now. Thanks, Chris.

  • "SMO'KIN" ! go girl go! well done!

  • cool

  • Great job and sound doing this song! I really enjoyed it.

Ya just gotta love the blues!

  • Ya' know, it's too bad you don't look, play and sing like a 60 year old black male blues artist. I'm kidding, I'm kidding ! hahaha

I was kinda' taken aback by a couple of the comments here.

Anyway, you just keep doin' your thing sister, I thought it was great !

I hope to someday play half as good as this, nice work.

Gotta' go check out more of your stuff now. Take care :-)) Wally

  • Excelente video, 5******

  • bravo girl : ) i love the dobro

  • Really good Acoustic Blues guitar playing! I always enjoy listening to people jamming to the Blues this good.

  • cool ;D

  • did you use open G or D ??

  • @morrixon2 Open D.

  • @RobertLeroyJohnson Hey Robert Johnson! Glad to see you're still with us...although you would be over 100 years old now. Thanks for the comment. It is a Regal Resonator guitar..pretty nice and not too expensive.

  • You just can't sing blues with that irritating voice

  • Great sound! Did you do any mods to your Regal RC-2 Duolian Guitar, to make it play so good? Can I request “Walking Blues” by Robert Johnson? Thanks in advance!

  • @emwardjr Hi emwardjr. I did not do any mods to my guitar. It's as it was right out of the box. I may have put new strings on when I recorded that video. Probably used Elixer, medium strings. I used to know how to play Walking Blues. I'll try to dust it off and record sometime. Thanks much for the comment and request!

  • A Woman with the Blues ?

YES ! I Like these kind of Woman and Blues !

  • chicks always get more views

  • What a wonderful interpretation... Certainly the best over the net IMHO.

I'm trying to learn it with the Dobro i got for my bday a couple of weeks ago !!

Any tabs I could find for free somewhere? I can't see (nor find out) all the notes your doing ! Once again congrats your playing is greaaaat !!!

  • @MadeInFrance1981 Thanks, glad you liked it. I don't know what IMHO is but I hope it's ok :) Good luck with the Dobro. The key to this tune is the tuning. Open D (or Open E). In this case, it is (thick to thin)..DADF#AD. Bunch of hammer-on's. Good luck!

  • @wilsonmohill thanks !!!! IMHO = In My Humble Opinion

  • @wilsonmohill It's very ok! IMHO (in my humble opinion)!

  • Girl you can play - well done

  • What we have here is a brand New Bonnie Raitt . In Fact. Love ur style. Missy! Regards :-) Alex from germany Lol

  • Nice playing

  • Bravo!!!

  • Glad to have you back. Thanks.

  • I love this video and keep coming back to it. It's on my playlist.

  • Just get a custom slide built for your finger. No deal big for any engineering firm.

  • Tu joue bien de la guitare, ma joliiiiiie !!!!

  • hey sweet girl that was a lot of fun yeah :)

  • Awesome singing & playing Lisa!

  • thats pretty good i like the sound of dobros a resonator guitars

  • Everyone needs to break a bottle once in a while! Like this mucho. When you sing the melody with the slide(not sure I'm using the correct terminology there...in unison maybe?),well I just like that a lot! (0:44 & 2:28). Oh and the rest aint too shabby lol.

  • Sounds like the Chipmunks............Alvin?

    Good guitar though.

  • nice take on an ol fav

    regards

    bp

  • Come on down to the great state of Mississippi baby, we still do it down here!! Great playing, digging you fo real!!

  • is that a broken bottle neck your using?

    sweet!!!

  • @JustTrollingAround It's called a Spin Slide. It's too big for my finger so I had to stuff it to keep it from falling off. It's a little funky but it seems to work. Maybe I should try breaking a bottle. :)

  • @JustTrollingAround Best song...

  • You go GIRL!

  • great job of this classic

  • Exxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxcelent

    can i ask U a question

how do you like that Regal

I'm looking for bell brass one and trying to find a good one

that ain't going to cost me an arm or a leg

    keep up the good work

    Rich in WV

  • @1958wvpicker Hi.thank you. This guitar is sweet...it won't break the bank and gives big sound. It's a little heavy on my leg but that is probably true for all resonators.

  • Howdy thanks

I was checking them out at muscians friend looks like this is the one I'm going to be getting

have a great day keep on pickin' you sing and play great

    Rich

  • Wow, I'm glad I stumbled across your gui-tar vids. I wish I could play as well as you but not enough talent for it...Lord knows I've been trying. Just a frustrated bass player I guess. But it'd be interesting to hear you on electric though. I see that Strat just sittin' there...

  • @sjdj408 Hey thanks. I'll have to dust off more than my broom...that strat has been neglected. Time to save up for some new strings! Stay tuned... :)

  • @wilsonmohill Well I'm mailing a feather duster and some d'addario's tonight and its just a few miles to mo hill from the 408... ha ha. hey how long have you been playing blues?...you kinda sorta have a danny kirwan way of playing rhythm imho.

  • hell yeah!

  • Awesome! You made that song your own. BTW I love your guitar.

  • A good looking woman playing Robert Johnson's stuff. That's the hottest thing I've seen in years.

  • That was very good! Just what I needed this morning! thank you! :)

  • Bravo! My 9 year old daughter is learning this song from your video.

  • @musicfamily awesome. I hope you post it when she does. You have a talented family..

  • wow! I'm in love!

  • I hardly think that whisky and cigars qualifies one to play the blues. She does well.

  • purty cool

  • Very good!!! You're so cool!!!

  • You're really good...on guitar.

  • That is so hot! :)

  • that was cool i like it - and your'e fit lol! x

  • Yeah nice playing but you need to smoke more cigars and drink some whisky

  • @sandbreak2 Ha.. Thanks for the prescription, doc. How about a Margartia instead? ..no umbrella of course...

  • @wilsonmohill...yeah, that`s living on the edge..you really has some skills and good vibes but your voice....ehh, you know!

  • @wilsonmohill no margaritas whiskey a blues players drink

  • @sandbreak2 I agree, a bit too stiff in the timing and vocals could be worked on. This is a good cover but the timing is way too rigid, put down the metronome

  • Very good, and a pretty lady

  • I reallly like it

  • unreal love it , buying a resonator guitar in a week or so but sadly I'm aussie so I'm going to need some help might hook up with a didgereedoo player . Love your skill mate excellent clip

  • very good effort-great playin gal ! KEEP THEM OLD TOONES COMMING !!

  • bravo ! c est super on ne s en lasse pas .

  • Go for it !!

To me, anyone who has the drive to pick up a guitar and learn a song, has a passion for music. Being able to express that passion through their chosen instrument takes time and practice and lots of listening.

I have respect for any musician, whatever stage they're at in their journey.

The only musicians I find hard to respect are one's that are so far up their own arse,

they have no respect for other musicians.

I know musicians who are technically brilliant, but assholes !!

  • You go Girl....keep it up!

  • I love watching this video the voice the guitar playing , you bring it all together so nicely.

  • Still listening to this one Lisa my friend-it is great!-take care, Richard(UK)

  • Thanks Richard. Just got back from the NAMM show in L.A. Come back to this channel soon for more videos from the show....Take Care..

  • @wilsonmohill

I will look forward to coming back to have a look, thanks Lisa

  • Great !!!

    Greetings from Germany

  • great work

  • Good guitar, shade too slow. Step should be a bit higher and lighter like you're skipping down a dirt road in Mississippi or bouncing in a parade in New Orleans. Vocal is aweful. HOLLER like a field hand to the next block! Listen to Elmore James (or Bonnie Rait). Needs more "call and and answer" between voice and guitar. That's how slaves / sharecroppers worked. Guitar becomes monotonous. But these are fine points or criticism for authenticity, the average ignorant hunky will think its great.

  • @clarkewi Not too slow at all. Most wannabe blues players play too fast and lose the swagger and the swing. Lister to Wolf doing Highway 49, and Elmore doing Broom, especially.

Good things happening here sister but listen to Bonnie Raitt until your ears fall off for the vocals. And of course Robert Johnson and Rory Block. More passion in the vocals.

  • @clarkewi , I have to agree with Lafforte on this one I think you are way off base if you don't think that this is a great performance. And besides I don't think that any woman with a voice like Elmore James would be very appealing. And Bonnie Rait tends to play the slide pretty slow , but that is HER style, that she is known for.

  • I agree with all these comments and it is good constructive criticism but give the lady a break . . . . Good Job keep it up but get nasty about though hole thing ;-)

  • That kind of criticism only for musicians already at a very high level. But it's really a matter of opinion - the guitar work is brilliant. And granted, it would be difficult for a petite woman to yell like a field hand (unless you're Bonnie Rait). Perhaps an original approach? Sound like Jackie McShee from Pentangle? That might be interesting ehhh? The Pentange did wonderful blues adding an English folk flavour that was wonderful. Is there really any "right" way? If it works for you, do it!

  • Granted what you say but i dont belive you have to be such an acomplished musician to have the blues . . . . most of the old blues guy's were not that good at e.g. Guitar but but it was . . . . the feeling that makes it so fantastic . . . the pain in the words the innocents of the music . . .whats what makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up . . . not how tallented the player is. Doyou agree with that?

  • Indeed. It was the "feeling" . I grew up in the 50's when it was "blues" or "R&B" was considered "nigger" music or "race" music. I definitely agree that its appeal was the "sincerity" - the strong rhythm, loud volume in "yelling", simple chord progressions and "Earthy" topical lyrics dealing with sex, violence and death. Like folk music. Only it was African -American and totally new.

  • @lespaulloon maybe some were not but Robert Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy, Tampa Red, Rev. Gary Davis, Mississippi John Hurt, Skip James, Lonnie Johnson, Josh White, are you really suggesting, apart from 'feeling' these guys were not that good at guitar?

    Incidentally, I like this video.

  • Hey guys..great conversation going on here. Afterall..it's all about passion and it seems there is plenty of it here. My roots are more country than blues although I grew up in Detroit (pronounced Dee-troyt) and I hope the Motown sound seeped into my soul. The hammer-on's here are major (=country) as opposed to minor (=blues). Maybe that's making it sound less like Elmore had intended...

  • You laid down some nice sounds!

  • Forgot Howlin wolfe to.

  • I enjoyed the heck out of this, Thanks and great playing. As a Robert Johnson fan from way back I should say "Ya done good"

Years ago I went in a store to get new copies and the young rocker clerk had no idea who I was talking about Robert Johnson or Muddy. Thankfully the older owner did and ordered me the CD's.

  • @packingone Thanks much. It may not be true to the original but it's fun to play... Cool how You Tube allows the old masters to be introduced to a newer audience..

  • I'm the new audience...and absolutely loving this! Thank you

  • Crumbs!!- that totally unexpected- and superb!!!

    Fatastic stuff!!!...

    John...

  • Dang... You go Girl! I'm checkin out utube vids with reso's... I want one. Likely going to end up with a Goldtone or Republic. 1st time I ever heard "Dust my Broom".. I bookmarked you, so I can learn it later. LOve the Blues!!!! Keep on Jammin Cutie!

  • nice guitar,im thinking of byng one but they are so damn expensive

  • @solinjar

Actually this one is not that expensive (relatively speaking). It is a much more affordable version (around $500) than the great ones such as National's....
