Baudrillard was a disappointed 68er that felt postmodern society was useless and, at best, to be toyed with and enjoyed ironically. If a Warner Bros movie was based on his post-early 70s "philosophy," which was essentially a long winded joke against the superficiality of consumer society (including film and TV), I'm sure he enjoyed the movie thoroughly--ironically, of course.
Fascinating stuff! I've watched that movie et least 25 times and only now do I see the titel on the cover. I always took the big black book for The Bibel. Where is the interview footage with the philosophy proffs from? I would love to hear a more in-depth philosofical analysis.
In an interview in which Baudrillard was asked about the Matrix, he said that the Wachowski brothers had distorted his philosophy, as opposed to representing it properly in the film.
I can't get enuff of The Matrix, but don't know much about Philosopy and ppl keep saying that Matrix is rlted to some philosophers. I rcved a link for user bigbangillusion777. The videos?... not worth it, but he wrote something about Philosophy and the Matrix (the mind-only life link). Can you guys read it and say if thatmakes any sense? thx
i spoke with Baudrillard 20 min. in Moscow, he was a great man! a complete understanding of the minutiae of human life is impossible but his books.....(The Mirror of Production and Symbolic Exchange and Death mmm).
It's also when motorists follow their SATNAV off a cliff / down a dead end / into a river because they believe in the SATNAV rather than what's in front of their own eyes.
The real may be infinite, but Our real, the cognitive mapping of our understanding is not, and hence we create maps that become even more real than our perception of the real. That's what Baudrillard is thinking, not in terms of physics real, but cognitive reality.
It builds on Platonism, but so does all philosophy in a sense. You'r thinking about the cave right? The thing with Matrix is that we start seing things from the outside of the cave, and understand that that's just like the inside. That't postmodernism, and Matrix kind of build on that.
that you feel it through and through, and Oracle was right neo wasn't the one at that point, besides Morpheus speaks a lot about faith, (which is a refference to neo's function)neo doubts himself, but it's in the back of his head that Morpheus thinks hes the one
I think that the reason they die in the matrix is becouse they are still attatched to it in a way, the physical reality of the matrix forces them to believe they really die. Neo is killed but ressurects, his belief that he really is the one makes him break the rules of the matrix. I think that being the one is a matter of belief not a certain role or position, it's explained by the Oracle when she first meets Neo, she tells him he's not the one, and then tells hims that it's like being in love
Now this days there are more and more neo's out there. And people like you are the morpeus's. Giving out reflected thoughts like you did!!
Just see the bible as you do the matrix, and you will see that " jesus " is also around. In fact there are many jesus's in the world. The whole bible is like a quitz written in verbal pictures.
I don't understand the implications of being "killed" in the Matrix. Why do they die in real life? Does that signify Baudrillard's claims that once oneself becomes apathetic to to all symbols, is attach to the simulacra. Is actually death in the matrix reflective of losing oneself so the system of simulations?
But one can not die unless they begin to detach themselves from the simulations? I do not understand the symbolism of why Neo dying in the Matrix would actually kill him in real life.
What helps (a little) is placing &fmt=18 behind the adres in the adres bar. This upgrades the quality of the video as well as the audio. You can use this on any Youtube video.

Baudrillard said in an interview that Matrix was , maybe, the movie of the matrix on itself.
(my english is very poor, i hope it can be understood)
geneosis 2 years ago
@geneosis Very nicely said, the matrix itself is indoctrination of the systems programs. its the matrix within matrix.
Matrix telling us about Matrix makes us fall victim of yet another illusion created by the system, yet different from the one we discarded.
