@DJpopel India was and is a country of diverse ethnic groups and religions who have been living there for thousands of years -- a violent rebellion would have created more enemies than friends. I use the American Revolution as an example because I have heard arguments from people that such an armed rebellion would have been better suited to the Indian cause. At the time, the Indians were no match for the British Empire in terms of arms. So it would have been suicide to attempt an armed conflict.
The problem with your statement is that India is not free. They merely moved from colonialism to neo-colonialism, and still suffer heavily under the religious and geograhical strife that was created mainly by britains Divide and Conquer tactics, all while being run like an overseas corporation. @amrudkhan Muhammad Ali Jinnah was the one that called for India / Pakistan Partition because he believed Muslims needed a Separate Nation away from Hindus, Not Gandhi. Gandhi in fact wanted a United India with both Hindus & Muslims, After Partition, he went on a Fast for Pakistani People to get 100 Million Rupees (A Very Very Large Amount at that time).
This was the reason a Hindu Extremist Shot him, Because Gandhi was supporting the Muslims simply because he saw all Human Beings as same...

Ghandi WAS a british lapdog, there is no question about it. The Brits knew they would lose India to a violent uprising, so they of course turned to ghandi. 500 chars is not enough to explain this but ask yourself: What kind of a victory lets the enemy choose what he hands over, WHEN he leaves the country and WHO is allowed to be elected? And ask yourself why this ghandi guy is so celebrated by the mainstream press.

@DJpopel India was and is a country of diverse ethnic groups and religions who have been living there for thousands of years -- a violent rebellion would have created more enemies than friends. I use the American Revolution as an example because I have heard arguments from people that such an armed rebellion would have been better suited to the Indian cause. At the time, the Indians were no match for the British Empire in terms of arms. So it would have been suicide to attempt an armed conflict.

The problem with your statement is that India is not free. They merely moved from colonialism to neo-colonialism, and still suffer heavily under the religious and geograhical strife that was created mainly by britains Divide and Conquer tactics, all while being run like an overseas corporation. If ghandi did anything, he took a situation with a clear enemy and made it into a much murkier one through collaboration. Talk to a Sikh, the can prob. explain it better.
