One of the great scenes in movie history! Cole and Mr Holland had nothing in common-Cole was mechanically inclined and deaf/Mr Holland was musical and could hear. Instead of giving up on his child, he SOUGHT a way to create a connection with him.

I cry when he sings "Beautiful Cole". Its a really beautiful song and the emotion, sentimentality; everything just comes together. Someday when I'm a father, I'd like to sing this for my child, be they a boy or girl. I'd like to be that kind of father- there for them.

It reminds me so much of my dad and brother's relationship,

they always had a hard time communicating, and my brother being deaf makes it so much harder to watch this, just because I see it first hand....

This makes me smile, and has never ceased to do so even from a young age. I saw this again in my ASL class and was impacted by it, and when we found out I was losing my hearing, my mother showed this clip to my father and despite the fact I can still hear... my father knows how to say "Beautiful Boy"...
